Guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 We still don't have the final roster, and it's a little early to be freaking out, so i'll make this brief. Lots of people, not a majority, but a hell of a lot more than you think, simply do not get Smackdown in any form. It's never been a big sticking point because, even though Smackdown is sometimes better than Raw, you can see video clips from SD and all the same guys 4 days later. But now, SD has a far superior roster, and i'm not just taking the smark view here either. You think you're beer buddies won't miss Rock, Hogan, and Angle because they get to see Battle of the Diesels? College towns in particular, where a lot of rasslin' fans are right now, don't (generally) get SD. And my personal sob story: I'm at Purdue, and every year the kids in the dorm vote on what channel they want added to dorm cable. Well, this year, TNN is winning (we have USA, but the switch caught everyone by suprise last year). Only problem is, the people everyone wants to see on TNN are now on UPN, which we don't have and won't get till next year.
Guest areacode212 Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Well, there will be some trades going on, so chances are, the rosters won't be so lopsided in a few weeks. It's possible that Benoit may end up going to RAW. I don't have cable, so I can ONLY watch Smackdown, and I'm enjoying this for the time being.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 It is also much better for Canadians that Smackdown is the loaded roster.
Guest MARTYEWR Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Not if you have to pay extra for The Score, and not TSN, and thus, only get Raw.
Guest JAMES900 Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 that why it pays to live in the uk *hugs sky sports*
Guest notJames Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Or in the NYC metropolitan area... [... hugs nearby mugger... uh oh...]
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Or Northern California (Hugs hot, blonde lesbian)
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Or Northern California (Hugs hot, blonde lesbian, and her hot brunette lover)
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Or Philadelphia area *hugs hot, juicy.........cheesesteak*
Guest treble charged Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 The only 2 wrestling shows I get are Raw and Excess, so I'm hoping that Excess either shows highlights from both shows, or just SmackDown, otherwise, I'm screwed.
Guest One Bad Apple Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 I'm sure there's somewhere on the internet you can get tapes from. Lots of people, not a majority, but a hell of a lot more than you think, simply do not get Smackdown in any form. I'm under the impression that 80% of wrestling fans don't get Smackdown. See those holes I just shot in your statement? Now there's water coming out of the holes. Looks like it doesn't hold water. Because of the holes.
Guest treble charged Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 I'm sure there's somewhere on the internet you can get tapes from. I know people who get SmackDown, so I can easily get it from them if I really want it badly (I've got connections at the local YMCA [haha]). It seems like a waste of time and energy, though, for just a TV show.
Guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 i live in the uk and and have satellite tv, but i cant afford to pay the sports channels so i can only see smackdown on saturday mornings, this sucks for two reasons, 1)i cant see raw 2)as smackdownis shown saturday mornings a lot of the stuff is edited out, any chair shots or men versus women action
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 Get a really big Satellite. Not only can you watch Smackdown, but you can watch it as its been taped and then the airing of the tv feed at 2 am Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Thats what I do when Im home where we cant get UPN.
Guest One Bad Apple Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 2)as smackdownis shown saturday mornings a lot of the stuff is edited out, any chair shots or men versus women action Personally, I prefer woman-on-woman action. Grrrr-oww! NOTE: I actually don't.
Guest buffybeast Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 "I'm under the impression that 80% of wrestling fans don't get Smackdown." Is it that many? I think that number is too high. Where did you get your information from? I am curious.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 80% of wrestling fans don't get Smackdown? Yeah, that's a good one... That would imply that if everyone got it, Smackdown would be pulling in NBC-like ratings on Thursday.
Guest teke184 Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 80% is WAY too high. I'd say 30% top.
Guest One Bad Apple Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 I wasn't serious about the 80%. What do you take me for ... some kinda idiot?
Guest Anglesault Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 You think you're beer buddies won't miss Rock, Hogan, and Angle because they get to see Battle of the Diesels? No, Suck (Test) made it onto SD!
Guest Posted March 26, 2002 Report Posted March 26, 2002 UPN will be a major problem in the coming future. Almost all Dish Network customers have to pay extra to get UPN. To be honest, who the hell would pay any extra to get that channel? Name 1 thing decent on UPN besides Smackdown? Dish Network will be buying out DirecTV later this year, so the majority of satellite owners will be screwed unless they want to pay more. As far as cable subscribers, which I am, we don't get UPN here, and it's not available under any price plan. I believe I read sometime last year that 82% of cable subscribers are able to carry UPN. I think that probably adds up to around 25-30% that don't get UPN. So, like Smell the Ratings!!! said... UPN is a major problem.
Guest Choken One Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 Which why I knew from the moment Vince signed with Viacom, they would get screwed. Fox was the better option, there you would have 4 channels to have your outlet on. Meanwhile, UPN does have a poor roster of shows however there are about 3-5 "good" or at least popular shows, Smackdown!, Enterprise (Which is not worthy of Network Airtime, Sheena is better that crap), Buffy (The elite show of UPN) and the Hughley Show (Why did Fox pass on that? Could made a great Tuesdy show three years ago). However, I never had UPN until 6 months ago and but I never moaned about, but I don't even remember about it sometimes these days. When Viacom starts losing money and it will, WWF is out first.
Guest razazteca Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 I Only get Raw and will continue to annoy the employees of Time-Warner Cable every day until UPN is put on the cable system......WTF is there a need for WE, History, Golf, Oxygen channels??????????? downs a case of Dos Equis
Guest commish13 Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 i get RAW and SmackDown!, but i just need the YES network for those damn yankees games. EDIT: and buffybeast, my brock icon is better than yours.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 Oxygen channels? LOL. Im lucky. I get all the wrestling shows. Yippe. (prepares to get as whooped.)
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 Well I get UPN so I have nothing to worry about....but I feel ya my UPN-less brothers *raises fist into air*
Guest mastermind Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 Well, I guess it's a calculated plan by Vince to get people to go to the house shows. Seems like the 80's marketing scheme.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 don't get me started on Oxygen and WE. There are 3 (THREE!!) channels advertised as 'the channel for women' and all guys get is that crappy show on Comedy Central. I know there's the sports channels but those aren't 'the channels for guys' they're just sports channels. I don't get Smackdown and I have -$26 so I can't exactly buy a tape of it every week over the internet without selling some kind of body part that I might need later. Viacom owns UPN so they should just cancel the remaining Music Videos they show on MTV before Tough Enough 2 and show Smackdown then, cause I don't need to cling to my chair for a month in hopes that the trades won't fuck up my chance of seeing Raven/Dreamer III and being stuck watching nWo and Undertaker until the WWF changes directions again, and both guys might be buried on Metal again by then. And that money (or lack therof) problem negates the chance of me buying the ppvs. This is the only drawback wrestling wise of living in STL. BTW, is there anyone who gets Smackdown but NOT Raw???
Guest muzanisa Posted March 27, 2002 Report Posted March 27, 2002 Raw four day delay Smackdown two day delay Excess Metal Livewire superstars Classics eight PPV's a year free and live the other five possibly free soon and heat exclusive PPV's Sky is great but you have to live in the UK which is a major drawback
