Television tapings

Recommended Posts

There is a similar thread up on Kayfabe Memories but I thought I'd start one up here to see what kind of experiences you guys have had at them.

I've never been to one myself, the closest I came was when the WWF did a Superstars taping at the Capital Centre on 9/2/92 - just a few days after Summer Slam and one day after Flair regained the title from Savage. I don't even remember seeing ads for the show on TV, although I'm sure they plugged it in the Event Center every chance they got. I had no idea how close the Cap Centre was to my house - or how cheap tickets were at the time - otherwise I might have begged my parents to take me. I had just turned 11 at that point.

Didn't go to my first house show (or wrestling event altogether) until May of the following year.

I'll leave this open to any fed. Do you recall any dark matches?

I went to a USWA Taping in 1993. They used to do a Saturday morning show on WMC 5. I don't remember much but I did yell at Brian Christopher

I've been to at least 15 TV Tapings, WWE comes to CT alot. The only dark matches that stick in my head are a Danny Doring match in Nov, a Mike Awesome vs Slyk Wagner Brown match, a Charlie Haas vs someone match, and in 1998 a Paul Roma match. I was dumbfounded as Roma wrestled since I hadn't seen him in years.

I would imagine that I have attended a good number of Televison tapings of WWF, WCW and ECW.

The best one? Austin pilmanizing Pilman.

That reminds me, I was at a WCW Saturday Night TV Taping as well, in December/January of Late 96/early 97. I don't recall too many matches... Super Calo wrestled 4 times I think (And the crowd groaned by the 4th time) I think he fought Jericho. Harlem Heat fought the Nasty Boys TWICE! Masa Chono fought.... Luger vs La Parka was the Main Event... Props if anyone can find me those results in full....!!!

Well seeing as it was 1996 and not 97, I wouldn't have recognized the Jackel or Don Callis... so anything's possible... sorry that I'm so inconclusive.

I don't recall WWF doing any TV shows or tapings in Philly prior to 98...since I started watching anyway (91). I've been to two Smackdown tapings, one in April 2000 (HHH Vs Tazz and Jericho Vs Rock in a damn lumberjack match) and the other in April 2001 (where Jeff Hardy beat HHH for the I-C Title).

My first ever show was Summerslam 1997. I saw the Owendriver and Bret Hart win his last WWF Title.

I believe it was 2 or 3 weeks later, I went to RAW in Atlantic City. From what I remember, LOD def. Bulldog & Owen via DQ (I think), Flash Funk def. Brian Christopher. The main event, however, was great. Undertaker & Mankind vs. Shawn Michaels & HHH. The debut of the soon-to-be DX! That's when HBK busted open Undertaker with two chairshots, leading to Ground Zero.

Most recently, I went to a Smackdown taping on July 9, 2002, also from Atlantic City. Me, my brother, and friend went. My brother, the mark that he is, brought a "Hulk Still Rules" sign. Out seats were right on the aisle. The first match was Hogan & Edge vs. Billy & Chuck. So, when Hogan comes out, he grabs my brother's sign and holds it up. Nice little experience, there. My sign said, "Smackdown Needs Steve Blackman," and the only reaction it garnered, other than from the people around me, was from Test, who seemed to give me a dirty look... but it might have just been his normal heel look. Anyway, the results were Tajiri def. Shannon Moore, Val Venis def. Test, Billy Kidman def. Chavo Guerrero, Hogan & Edge def. Billy & Chuck, Molly Holly def. Torrie Wilson, D-Von & Batista def. Randy Orton & Mark Henry, The Rock returns and brings Busta Rhymes in the ring. Kurt Angle interrupts and runs down Rock and gets the line of the night toward Busta, who's back in the front row: "And if Puff Daddy wants a piece of me, than he can too!" After that, Rikishi def. Test, Kidman & Hurricane def. Jamie Noble & Tajiri, and Undertaker & John Cena def. Chris Jericho & Kurt Angle. Each show, I had a great time.

Thanks to cawthon's site I finally have dates to go along with the memory of attending the events.

Other than house shows and a few PPVs I've attended these would be the TV Tapings

WWF @ Portland, ME - Civic Center - July 30, 1991

ME- Undertaker VS Randy Savage-The crowd was pissed when when they announced the Warrior couldn't be there and I also remember there being tapings for the Barber Shop through the show.

WWF @ Portland, ME - July 21, 1992

1st WWF Ladder match

WWF @ Portland, ME - Civic Center - August 17, 1994

Owen wins the World title for a few minutes.

WWF @ Portland, ME - Civic Center - August

I fell asleep half way during this show, but was woken up to see the Diesel-Mabel match. Sleeping would have been better than seeing them half-ass it for 3 minutes with Nash winning with a weak elbow from the second rope.

WWF @ Portland, ME - December 8, 1997

The start of the Austin-McMahon war, atleast according to the commercial tape that covers their conflicts.

WWE @ Manchester, NH - Verizon Wireless Arena - July 1, 2002

Hardy-UT ladder match and nothing else really.

WWE @ Boston, MA - Fleet Center - July 2, 2002

Hogan & Edge tag title win.

That's pretty much it for now, until they come back through Boston or NH, Maine only gets house shows now.

I went to RAW tapings in Watertown, NY in July of '93. Saw the Luger-Yoko contract signing and a Bret-Yoko dark match. I'll mention the full card later...

WWF @ Alexandria Bay, NY - July 26, 1993

Monday Night Raw taping

I don't have any info from Watertown but could this have been the same Raw taping?

That's the one! I meant to say Alex Bay (you drive through Watertown to get to it). I got my Bret Hart wristbands from that show and watched my hero (at the time) lose to Yokozuna in a title match (Fuji hit him with the salt bucket). I JUST missed shaking his hand at the end; he turned away just as I got there. Oh well, I still have the photos....

I forgot about the Nitro I went to also in Vegas on 6/30/97. Raven was in the crowd, Sting dropped from the rafters, and that's about all I can remember.

Full results:

WCW World Cruiserweight Champion "Lionheart" Chris Jericho made Juventud Guerrera submit to a Boston Crab following a Superfrankensteiner to retain the championship.

Eddie Guerrero pinned Dean Malenko

WCW World Television Champion Steven Regal made Hector Garza submit to the Regal Stretch

Psychosis pinned Super Calo

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair, "Crippler" Chris Benoit and Steve "Mongo" McMichael defeated Buff Bagwell, Scott "Flash" Norton and Masa Hiro Chono via DQ

High Voltage upset Wrath and Mortis

WCW U.S. Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett made Konnan submit to the figure-four leglock

Kevin Nash pinned Rey Misterio, Jr. following a release jackknife.

"Diamond" Dallas Page, Lex Luger, and Giant against Hall, Nash, and Savage was a no-contest.

dark matches:

Glacier over Wrath by DQ when Vandenberg interfered.

Hector Garza, Silver King, and Juventud Guerrera over Psychosis, Villano IV, and La Parka

Chris Jericho def. Syxx (DQ)

I've been to a lot of WWF and WCW house shows but only one TV taping.

It was Raw 9/01 or 10/01

It had a really enjoble interview with The Rock/Chris Jericho/Stephanie Macmahon.

Hardy Boys beat Booker T/Test for the WCW Tag Titles in a solid but short match.

The ME was Kurt Angle vs Steve Austin for the WWF Title where commissioner Regal interferes costing Angle the title. Awesome match.

Easily the 3rd best match I have ever seen in person behind Steve Austin/Bret Hart submission match from WM XIII and Chris Benoit/Steven Regal from the Brian Pillman Memorial Show 2000

I just stumbled across that episode on tape earlier today - forgot I had it. Very solid.

Television tapings?

I've only been to one.

It was the SmackDown/HeAT tapings which took place on February 15th 2000. The SmackDown show aired two nights later, on February 17th 2000 (which was the day of my 17th birthday)

Edit - The show took place at Selland Arena in Fresno, California.

I attended the September 26, 1995 WWF Superstars taping that came to Valparaiso university and damn, six hours of jobber matches was just too intense for me. I still remember the dark matches as follows:

Goldust def. Savio Vega (Dust hadn't debuted on tv yet and I was surprised to see him there)

Undertaker def. Kama (the feud of that summer that just wouldn't DIE)

Shawn Michaels def. Dean Douglas (nowadays a match that would've been interesting)

and after 6 HOURS of jobber matches....

Diesel pins Yokozuna in like less then a minute

Man, that Diesel reign of 95 was non stop excitment I tell ya.

I've been to one. The main reason I went was to see the Road Warriors, but they no-showed, damn them! I also believe there was a Sean Michaels interview segment. Can't remember the name of his show though.
