Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Well, for those who already have it ('twas released today)... any comments so far? Five and a half hours of concert footage, interviews... backstage stuff... all sorts of cool little features all throughout. Looks awesome, and as a Zeppelin fan, I'm getting it tomorrow no matter what... but uh, comments anyway?

Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted May 28, 2003 Went to get the DVD today, only to find out that "it completely sold out within three hours." Uh... wow, I was pretty fucking mad. I did however get the new 3-disc Live set or whatever, and I'm listening to it right now... great stuff. Can't wait 'till the 25-minute~! version of Dazed and Confused, though. Guest kingkamala Report post Posted May 29, 2003 The DVD and the three disc set were sold out at the local Circuit City. Damn them, damn them and their always quality prices.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Sold out at Best Buy and Media Play near me as well. And you could tell that Best Buy had a ton of them since the empty gap where it would have been was quite large.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I've got a love/hate relationship with Zeppelin. I absolutely ADORE songs like "When the Levee Breaks" and "How Many More Times" but I loathe tracks like "Rock and Roll," and can't listen to Stairway. Love the first and fourth albums..don't particularly care for II or III. Also, isn't it just a LITTLE bit pretentious to have 3 self-titled albums, and one which varies? Minor point, but still. I might rent it.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I've never been a fan of Zeppelin's live stuff. They just don't sound right to me, especially Paige. Then again, Paige is not a very good guitarist. I think he's the most over-rated lead man EVER. However, I will probably pick up the DVD anyway, the for the "collector" value. Maybe it'll have the shark footage, just to put the rumour to rest. Oblivion, you don't like III? I personally think it's their best album. It has the slow, acoustic numbers that everyone loves, and it has the ballsy tunes, especially "Out On the Tiles." It has everything Zeppelin, and it's fucking great. I also think that II may be the best bass album of all-time. Jones is simply on another level on that album.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 okay, JPJ and John Bonham, are amazing live. Rober Plant and Jimmy Page nullify it.

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Plant couldn't sing live if his life depends on it, and Page loves to re-record over his guitar riffs, making that "Zeppelin" sound, but clearly struggles in the live performance.
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Plant couldn't sing live if his life depends on it Funny, he seems to sing fine here. And as for Page, I've seen a live recording of Stairway to Heaven that's about triple or quadruple the length of the regular song, and he's the one keeping it fresh. Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I've seen Page and Plant live (as Page on Plant, on their 1995ish tour) live twice, and had no problems with either of their performances. Plant was hit-and-miss live early in the Zeppelin days, but he sounded fine in the later days, probably from Presence on. I've always thought Page was a very good guitarist, and the live concerts and concert videos I've seen have done nothing to make me think otherwise.

I also think that II may be the best bass album of all-time. Jones is simply on another level on that album. I wouldn't say it's actively bad or anything, just not up to snuff with the other three early albums, IMO. My favorite is the first one, by far. Awesome blues influence, and a bunch of tracks I can really get into. On the bass comment, you're nuts. For nothing but awesome bass lines, it doesn't get any better than.. Every Primus album not named Antipop. Black Sabbath-Paranoid (I say that only because the first album was the Tony Iommi show, but Geezer's just playing his ass off all over this one.) Sunn-I wish I could remember the name of the album, but it's literally nothing but bass. No drums, no guitars, no vocals. It's something you either love, or absolutely hate. On first listen, it just sounds like noise, but after a couple spins, you can tell that there's really a whole lot going on. Hypnotic, intense, and ambient all at the same time, if that makes any sense.
Guest JAxlMorrison Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I have to concur. I saw Robert last year opening up for The Who, and although he did a lot of old blues stuff, the Zep tunes he did, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave you" and "Going To California" sounded just fine to me. He even hit a couple trademark screams and was very mobile for a guy his age. Nothing compared to Daltrey and Townshend tho.....Holy shit. But that's another story altogether. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 It's not the basslines that make II the best best album ever, IMO, it's the groove. His lines aren't Claypool level, but GODDAMN there's such a groove. Jones totally drives that album. The best bassline ever? "The Real Me" by The Who. It's untouchable. Entwistle was Jesus on the bass.
Guest INXS Report post Posted May 31, 2003 I've only heard Zeppelin live through bootleg but I think they would have sounded better if they had a second guitarist on stage with them. Not that they sounded like crap or anything but it would have helped the sound and cover for Mr. Page.
