Guest The Metal Maniac Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Ok, I don't give a fuck if she beats her kids, or what God she follows. The fact of the matter is this: The REASON that EVERYONE has their picture on the liscence is so that it can PROVE who they are. There's NO logic in having a picture on the liscence that cannot be identified. Hell, she could EASILY give her liscence to some other woman, wearing the same veil, and who would know the difference? If you're not going to have a photo on the thing that can be identified, then you may just as well have no photo. It boggles my mind that people think they can get away with this. I know a buddy who ALWAYS wore a hat in grade 10. When he got his ID, they made him take off his hat - but only after he got them to show him where in the rules it said he had to take it off. I just wish more people would realize that when the rules say one thing, you can't just make up another thing and blame it on God to get your way. Oh, and I can't see WHY you wouldn't be allowed to wear a veil while driving if you felt like it - one like that, at least. Her eyes are totally uncovered, so it really can't impair her driving. I would think that things like Walkmans are different, because they would tend to be distracting, but I can't see the negative side to someone driving like that, assuming that they would, if necessary, show their face to a cop who needed to check their ID for whatever reason.
Guest TheMikeSC Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 i was never supporting her but I was hoping that it would be a good case. It's not really about wearing your hood in photos it's about what's more important...religious freedom or national security. It's more of a test to see if America's legal system has ANY intellect remaining. If she wins this case, there's going to be a WORLD of problems. Let's say she wins --- how can we, then, forbid human/animal sacrifice? Drug usage (Rastafarians, mon)? -=Mike
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 How does the fact that she's a convert change your minds at all? I don't think it means that much in the grand scheme of things... I'm normally the first one to defend Muslims when they're being shit on, but this woman really is an idiot and should be PUNISHED for even trying to waste people's time with a case like this.
Guest Riots bloodlust Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 To me, this is what the concept of seperation of church and state is about. No religious belief should interrupt the law, and thus compromise the safety of others, be they christian, muslim, wiccan, moon worshipers, or whatever. That's what it's about, not suing people who erect a nativity scene, or wear a yarmulka, or perhaps pause to bow to mecca or whatever. As long as everyone is respectful, that stuff isn't a problem.
