Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Godzilla, along with Spiderman, is a true icon of my childhood, and I love him to this day. I can't offhand think of any titles that aren't available on dvd... I know there must be a couple, but all the big ones are. King of Monsters, vs Kong/ Mothra/ Mecha/ Ghidora/ Gamera/ Rodan, those all are. I'm not sure if 1985 is.
Guest Cover of Darkness Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I'm a HUGE Godzilla fan, I especially love the Heisei series. (Godzilla 1985 till Godzilla vs. Destroyah).

Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted May 31, 2003 I was a huge Godzilla mark as a kid and experienced a renaissance of it in high school. My favs are the obvious Godzilla vs King Kong, vs Mothra, vs Rodan, vs Ghidra, and Monster Island. When I was a kid in grade school, the controversy was that in Godzilla vs King Kong the Japanese version is Godzilla winning the battle and the American version is King Kong winning because you see Kong walking away after their cliff dive and Godzilla does not appear at all. I don't think there are even 2 different versions of this movie. What is the truth?

King Kong went over in both versions because he was good, and Godzilla was evil at the time. In Japan they are currently working on ... GODZILLA VS. GAMERA !!!!!!! WE ARE NOT WORTHY! Guest Vyce Report post Posted May 31, 2003 No one gives love to Godzilla vs. Gigan. It's probably my favorite of the Godzilla movies. It's got Godzilla forming an unlikely tag team with giant mecha JET JAGUAR~! against two ugly ass monsters, one of which was a giant mutant space cockroach. And it has the single best Godzilla move EVER - a running Godzilla DROPKICK. Has to be seen to believed.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Ok, I was just naming famous monsters off the top of my head. But the big vs movies are on dvd, that's the important thing.

Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted May 31, 2003 In 8th grade I loved Godzilla. I have every single tape (some in japanese, some in english) of Godzilla from "Gojira" to "Godzilla 2000". I haven't watched a Godzilla movie for years, but I would be interested in seeing the new ones.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Godzilla vs Megalon is my personal favorite, despite the cover art of the box making no sense what with them fighting on top of the Twin Towers.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Godzilla vs Megalon is my personal favorite, despite the cover art of the box making no sense what with them fighting on top of the Twin Towers. That was because it came out at the same time the King Kong remake did, and that film had Kong on the Twin Towers.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Ahh, well okay I guess it...sort of makes sense?! ah well. Someone give Destroy All Monsters love please. Granted a lot of the monster footage is just old pieces of film from previous movies but hell, it's fun as fuck anyways.

BEST GODZILLA (Original Series): Destroy All Monsters HONOR. MENTION: Ghidora, The Three Headed Monster (The first film where Godzilla is the hero) WORST GODZILLA (Original Series): Godzilla's Revenge (It was about some abused kid who dreams of playing with Godzilla on Monster Island... Get the fuck off my porch.) HONOR. MENTION: Son of Godzilla BEST GODZILLA (Heisei Series): Godzilla vs. Mecha-Godzilla (1994) WORST GODZILLA (Heisei Series): Godzilla vs. Biolante (Pretty much by default.) Out of the new series, I've only seen Godzilla 2000 so I can't comment.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I've NEVER seen DAM!!! That has just about all the Toho monsters in it, doesn't it? And isn't some of it set in NYC? Damn, I think that one is on DVD... I havent seen any of the new ones, either, post 1985... how do they compare to the campy classics of yore?
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 1, 2003 vs. Megalon is my favorite. I always have a soft spot for when Jet Jaguar shows up to help save the day in the last fight. I cried the first time I saw Godzilla 1985. I was maybe 4 at the time, and I was bawling when Godzilla fell into the volcano-thing at the end. My dad managed to shut me up by telling me that he lived in the volcano, and he was on his way home after a hard day of work to be with his son and wife. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 1, 2003 I loved the hell out of Godzilla movies, and still did. Was kind of pissed the last big Hollywood production Godzilla movie they made in 2000 with Matthew Broderick sucked so much ass. As your Resident Blockbuster Employee©, I can actually tell you guys we have a 5-DVD Godzilla set for $29.99 that I actually prepped the other day. I made sure to carefully set it out of view for the idiot Hispanic customers we get who will buy anything with a scary looking face on it, then be disappointed when the movie isn't "gangsta". WTF is that anyways? I mean- (stops before going on off-topic rant)
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Vit-X- what movies are in the box set? And yes, I'd like to know if they are gangsta. Is Gangzilla vs. the Crips in there? That's my gave Gangzilla one, maybe right after Gangzilla get 5 to 10... Seriously though, which ones are in that box set?

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Godzilla would fuck Gamera up in no time. Godzilla's first words: "Tonight I dine on turtle soup." Oh HEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO~! Y'all gone up and done it! Gamera's the Mudhoney to Godzilla's Nirvana, the Buzzcocks to Godzilla's Green Day...not as well known/respected, but just as good if not better. Although my examples kinda sucked since those also came first, the only thing Godzilla has on Gamera. Besides, Gamera saves Japanese school-children! The same Japanese school-children who grow up to become disenchanted with society and upon seeing the tribulations of their giant reptilian hero pick up weapons and go on to star in Battle Royales and Suicide Circles! I'm interested in seeing GMK (Godzilla vs Megaguirus(sp?))...not sure if it's a remake or not (I believe so), but currently the only version with English subs is Region 3 only. Not fair! There's so many Godzilla films, both recent and OL' SKOOL~! that we're missing out on here in the States on DVD. I even think they took Godzilla vs. King Kong out of print. Bastards. Also, Columbia's boxset has King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla's Revenge, Terror of Mechagodzilla, and as a bonus disc, RODAN(~!). Unfortunately, not only are there no special features whatsoever (in fact, it seems as if the DVDs were rushed out to coincide with the Gamecube game last year), but if the Rodan I bought separately is indicative of the rest (and from what I've read, it is) the transfers are shite as well. I wish Simitar's Godzilla DVD boxset were still in print...no Rodan, but it also had Godzilla vs. Monster Zero and Art of Illusion (a making of on the series? I've never heard of this one), not to mention the choice of widescreen (although I'm not sure if this was as per the original aspect ratio or matted just 'cuz...I think the former because there's a few speckles here and there in widescreen, indicating a different print/transfer). Anyway, Alpha Video just put out the original Gamera the Invincible on DVD. And though I'm not really a fan of Alpha, I just might pick it up, because every good boy deserves turtle. CBright7831 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2006 NEW YORK, NY (March 10, 2006) – Move over King Kong! Godzilla is back! On September 5, Classic Media will release the complete, uncut, Japanese original, Gojira (Godzilla), on DVD for the first time ever in the US. From legendary Japanese filmmaker Ishiro Honda, Gojira quickly became a monster classic. Gojira will only be available as part of a special DVD 2-pack that also includes the re-edited US version, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Raymond Burr. Both versions have been digitally remastered in HD widescreen. The Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters DVD 2-pack stomps onto retail shelves late summer for $21.98 SRP. Robert Mayo, SVP of Home Video at Classic Media, said, “It’s really exciting to be able to finally bring this classic film to DVD for the American audience. Fans have been looking forward to the release of Gojira for several years.” For more information and updates closer to release date, fans can log onto www.godzillaondvd.com. A Monster Metaphor Ishiro Honda’s 1954 black-and-white classic spawned a new genre called the “kaiju eiga” or, Japanese monster movie, giving way to countless sequels. With its 50th anniversary theatrical re-release in 2004, audiences rediscovered the strong anti-nuclear message of the original Gojira film. Gojira contains 40 minutes of footage that was not seen as part of the re-edited, re-dubbed Americanized Godzilla: King of Monsters. In the US version 40 minutes were cut and 20 minutes of new scenes were added, starring Raymond Burr as an American reporter. As a result, the original tone of the movie was changed and the anti-H-Bomb message dropped. Gojira (1954) Run Time: 98 minutes When several ships mysteriously explode and sink off the coast of Japan, the country begins to panic. Authorities are convinced that the unexplained activity was caused by underwater mines or volcanoes and sends officials to Odo Island to investigate. Days later, something comes ashore and destroys several neighboring houses, killing many locals. Renowned paleontologist, Dr. Kyohei Yemane (Takashi Shimura), is called to lead a new expedition and uncovers the source of the problem – a 400-foot tall mutant dinosaur the natives call Gojira. The Doctor insists that the monster, which was awakened from a million-year sleep by nuclear bomb tests in the South Pacific, be studied not destroyed. Gojira soon begins a rampage that threatens to destroy Japan. Can the powerful monster be eliminated before it is too late? Godzilla: King of the Monsters (1956) Run Time: 78 minutes When American reporter Steve Martin, played by Raymond Burr, investigates a series of mysterious disasters off the coast of Japan, he comes face to face with an ancient creature so powerful and terrifying, it can reduce Tokyo to a smoldering graveyard. Nuclear weapon testing resurrected this relic from the Jurassic age, and now this behemoth is stomping and smashing his way through the city. Conventional weapons are useless against him; but scientist Dr. Serizawa has discovered a weapon that could destroy all life in the bay – including Godzilla! But, which disaster is worse, Godzilla’s fury, or the death of Tokyo Bay? About Classic Media Classic Media owns and manages some of the world’s most recognizable family properties across all media including feature film, television, home video and consumer products. The company’s extensive library features a diverse collection of popular animated and live-action characters such as: Casper the Friendly Ghost, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Lone Ranger, Lassie, Underdog and Rocky & Bullwinkle.
