Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted May 30, 2003 with all these debuts and people going makes me feel like compiling a list of wrestlers rare to wwf whom wer either mistreated untreated or had no reason to begin with to be there think up as many as ya can. i'll start Jinsei Shinzaki..... As Hakushi I suppose he thought being in the WWF was like Vacation from Michinoku Pro or FMW. Steve Williams his short stint was pointless as well as was the useless JR heel turn. Public Enemy....... not even the refs respected them. what the hell was all that about.. Kronik...now if they can go because they are shitty, then why can't Nathan Jones? Ludwig Borga he was around a while, but was injury prone I think, and well prefers politics I guess Great Kabuki, Great Sasuke, Tenryu, Kitao.....Well I guess they got better reasons than most, Kabuki, Tenryu and Kitao did tours in the WWF because the WWF was also touring SWS at the time and Great Sasuke's presence for Taka's debut was also for the Michinoku Pro tour the WWF took. Terry Gordy's stint as the Executioner.....well that must have been time well spent. How about the what could have been great tag team career in the WWF of Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon? heh

Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted May 30, 2003 When coming into the WWE Saturn, Teioh, TAKA, Togo, Dr. Death, Malenko, Jerry Lynn, Furnas, LaFon, Hakushi, Scorpio and Raven were all capable-first class performers. Then the WWE (thinking they were the most creative people on earth) gave them gimmicks which ranged from bad (Flash Funk) to utterly insulting (Dean Malenko..."ladies man"), and then booked them in angles which ranged from awful ("I choppy your pee-pee!") to embarrasing (Moppy's demise) all of which contributed to a hell of a lot of wasted talent. I fucking hate the WWE sometimes.

Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Jerry Lynn was totally wasted considering he had a match with RVD on HEAT. Mike Awesome was also wasted because they wouldn't let him work his style. Ricky Steamboat could have been a great World champion but they only wanted to use the big hoss's to fight Hogan. etc. etc. etc........

Guest EternallyLazy Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Diamond Dallas Page... I know the IWC may have mixed feelings about him, but I always thought he was a pretty good worker, especially for his age and limited experience. He truly did love the business and wasn't in it for the almighty paycheck (cough GOLDBERG cough) and it's truly a shame looking back how WWE treated him... absolutely pathetic
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Jerry Lynn is the reason RVD has a WWE contract, more or less.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 30, 2003 DDP's 1st apperance as the stalker had so much potential, but for whatever reason the Undertaker did not want to play with him. Then the genius of WWE writing staff gave him the smiley gimmick which went nowhere. Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon what a great team they were, oh the possiblities that could of been but were squashed. I still remember the Survivor Series when they elimated both Bulldog & Owen in the tag match. But after that they went nowhere, I guess they were too talented for their own good. I still remember the Survivor Series when they elimated both Bulldog & Owen in the tag match. But after that they went nowhere, I guess they were too talented for their own good. They were too bland for Vince and the WWE audience. Though Furnas always seemed to have charisma and somewhat decent mic skills.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 30, 2003 The thing that struck me about Furnas and Lafon is that they got over on their own merits in their first televised match. That counts for a lot.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 30, 2003 It was like having 2 clones of Dean Malenko who worked stiff. A good manager could of done all of the talking for the team. But considering they had to work with the Young Guns, Goodwins, Headbangers I guess nobody wanted wanted to play with them. I remember JR tried to hype them up with the usual college background material but nobody bought it.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Furnas/LaFon ended up turning Canadian at the end didn't they? I forgot about DDP. He was ruined from the beginning. Since when was DDP as pervert? that wasn't his character. Just another case of WWE needing to "McMahonamize" everything and everyone.

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 30, 2003 I liked DDP's character at the start, after all they pretty much had to bring them all in as heels. Taker was the problem. Twat.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted May 30, 2003 Yeah, but DDP had been an effective heel before. Yet Vinnie decided to give him some silly "I stalk women much uglier than my wife" gimmick. I personally thought it sucked from the start. Then, Taker got hold of it...

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 30, 2003 "I stalk women much uglier than my wife" gimmick. That's a fair point. I still think the gimmick could have worked with a different valet, though. But yeah, his previous heel character shouldn't have been a problem.

I personally thought it sucked from the start. Then, Taker got hold of it... I was always bothered by the logic of the storyline... for years, if you followed WCW, you knew that DDP had a wife named Kimberly. During the Undertaker mess, I remember thinking "this would make just a little more sense if they involved Kimberly somehow..." but they never acknowledged her. I think they could have saved the angle if they would have played up DDP as just playing mind games with the Undertaker... start off with him stalking his wife, but then move on to some other thing that would get under Taker's skin. Then of course, have DDP actually win a few matches. Taker wins the payoff and the end to the feud of course, but instead of all of this, they just buried DDP and Kanyon in every single match. Pathetic

I fucking hate the WWE sometimes. I agree with everything in this post. It sums it all up. Except I liked Flash Funk. Flash Funk is my favorite wrestler ever. I loved every second of it. It's a shame that he got in trouble at WM 13 weekend, or he might have been given a push eventually. It's not to say that Vince didn't try with the gimmick. He had Funkettes, etc and pretty cool music but it just wasn't meant to be.

Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 30, 2003 It was either that or he got arrested for domestic abuse. I'm not exactly sure, but I just remember reading that the reason for his depush was a run in with the law.
Guest mach7 Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Furnas/LaFon ended up turning Canadian at the end didn't they? Well, if you mean turning Hart Foundation. Kind of, yes. LaFon [Danny Kroffat] is already a Canadian. But yeah, they sided with Bret Hart near the end of that whole angle. They ended up being the Hart Foundation B Team, I remember a Canada vs USA match that they were in with Owen & Bulldog vs a team that used Kurt Angle's them song. True. That was the Patriot's team. He and [i think] Sgt. Slaughter have both used older versions of Kurt Angle's entrance music in the past.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted May 31, 2003 Speaking of the Patriot, how about him? Jingoistic gimmick aside, I always thought he could have been pretty big in the WWE. And they did place him in a pretty decent angle - him feuding with Bret - until his injury hit. It wasn't really anyone's fault, but I remembered Wilkes all the way back when he was in the AWA, and I was disappointed that he didn't get a chance to meet his full potential. I also concur about DDP. Look, I don't care if you hated the man - and there are some who do - he WAS one of the most legit stars that WCW had, and at the least he could have been a solid midcard worker despite his age, but they fucked him up beyond repair. I can't see how ANYONE can excuse what they did to him.
