My dog died today

Recommended Posts

Guest hardyz1

At about 5:00 today, my dog, Buster, was hit by a truck and killed instantly. He was just four years old. I wish I had a picture to show you, but rest assured he was adorable.

I'm secure enough to admit I cried, and I will cry when I look at my living room window and realize he's never again going to be standing there looking out at me when I get home.

:(

(I'm not whoring for sympathy, I just felt like letting it out.)

I'm so sorry to hear that. The dog I had my entire life died last year and I know exactly how you feel. It'll take a while to move on, dogs are such special things in peoples lives.

My condolences.

I've been around dogs all my life, and when they die, it really, really sucks.

It's a shame that they can't live longer.

DFA sends his condolences.... I had a dog for 14 years of my life and he died and I cried miserably! I couldn't imagine having a dog for 4 years, and then it dying without knowing. With my dog we knew.... we had to put him to sleep. Hardest decision EVER!

DFA!

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss pal. I personally believe that an animal you love can become a part of your family, and losing that is a terrible thing to go through. condolences.

My condolences. I had a dog for eleven years and I still remember how horrible I felt when she died.

3 of our cats have been hit by cars and killed. It's awful when you lose your pet.

Like everyone else I send my deepest condolences.

That's rough man. Try to think how good your dog had it those 4 years instead of some who end up put to sleep by the SPCA because they have no homes. Then think of all the good times you had with it. That'll make you feel better.

My dog, named Puppy, died of old age at the age of 16 earlier this year, so I know how you feel. Damn, I miss ol' Puppy. :(

Not too long after that, another dog I loved, the neighbor's, was killed. His name was Teddy, and he was the coolest dog ever, and loved everyone. We live out in the country, so everyone just lets their dogs go free, it's great. It's not uncommon to see all of the neighborhood dogs together in packs just hanging out, heh. Anyway, Teddy went to the wrong yard one day, and this fucking bastard shot him in the hip and he had to be put to sleep.

That's too bad. Although my three3 cats are still young (the oldest is around 4) I dread the day when one of them passes away.

If I ever owned a dog I wouldn't let him out anywhere unless he was on a leash -- that's the only way my three cats go out...

I dread the idea of having pets for this very reason.

Despite the companionship a pet could bring to me, the attachment I will form with it, will only hurt worse when they eventually pass away.

I could go for a fish right now, though....

We don't let him out untied, but he just escaped. He was small (under 10 pounds) but he could run like the friggin' wind, so it's impossible to try to catch him.

On another note, apparently we do have some pictures of him somewhere, so if I find one, I'll post it.

I didn't mean to imply you did either. Sorry about that.

Wish I could run over some of my neighbors and leave them dead on the road...

bravesfan, that's the very nature of existence. All things end, but to deprive yourself of happiness simply because you are afraid of the pain that the end of the happiness will cause, then you are robbing yourself.

Shakespeare put it another way: " 'Tis better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all."

Thats why I hate to have pets. Because when they do die I feel miserable. When my dog died that I had since I was born I felt so bad that I never wanted another pet just so I wouldnt have to go through it again.

But would you trade every good memory you had of your dog? Would you rather you'd never known him at all? Mourning is a small price to pay for the companionship of another.

You have my sympathy. Roughly a month ago, my loving father SHOT my 2 dogs for no reason. I woke up to him burying them in the damn yard. I know it's hard & all the shit that's already been said. just find a way to distract yourself for awhile

Thats very true. I would never take back all the memories we had and how much fun it was to have a dog growing up. But it sure does feel shitty when your dog dies. I think its also harder when your dog dies unexpectedly rather than of old age. And all my pets never died of old age.

My oldest dog, Lady (eleven years old) was put to sleep around Christmas last year, due to it being extremely sick, so I feel for you. I've also had 2 cats disappear (one was later found on a busy street outside my development)

@DecadentSlacker: Is your dad usually that fucked up?

Actually yes. I could tell stories, but really, who gives a fuck? But yes, he is fucked up. Makes for a fun holiday season though.

I'm sorry bro, my dog died last March. It was two months after my mom died, so it made it even worse. He was the only one keeping my dad company, and he was my dad's best friend. All he did was hang around with my dad, so my dad got even more depressed when he died.

Dogs are the greatest things to have, they really are man's best friend.

"You have my sympathy. Roughly a month ago, my loving father SHOT my 2 dogs for no reason."

Oooook.

Let's hope insanity skips a generation in your family.

And since we're on this topic, I just had a mild heart attack when I couldn't find JJ just now. For a moment I was afraid he snuck out the door when I went out to throw their used litter in the nearby dumpster. It happened once before -- I went out in the middle of the night to mail a letter and he slipped by me. When my better half came downstairs that morning she saw him crying out by our back sliding glass door...
