Guest cobainwasmurdered

okay i found out today my grandfather is a Free Mason and that I have a small chance of joining if i wish. Now It sounds cool but i know very little about them (probably because they're a secret organization) so i was wondering if you guys knew anything or could point me in the right direction.

I have nothing to contribute here but this:

I always wanted to know the deal with Freemasons, and why the hell they're so damned controversial.

Some of their symbolism is vaguely Satanic, which makes the Christians hate them. And of course the conspiracy theorists say they run the world. I didn't know it was so hard to get in though... I've known a few in my life, even been invited to go to a meeting, it didn't seem like such a big deal.

i had a very close uncle who was a freemason & got to hear some very cool shit about it.

you know the masked ball orgy in 'eyes wide shut'? they do that, or at least something akin to it, where they'll get girls and have these rituals with them--they'll all dress up and the whole thing usually ends with the higher-ups taking turns having sex with one (or more) of the girls on the bare floor.

Where do I sign up?

Edit: Are the Freemasons the guys that drive in those little cars with the Fez hats?

I think Free Masons do wear fezs though. I remember hearing some Christian propaganda that it was based on a Moslem ritual of slaughter where the streets would flow with blood and they would dip their hats in it.

They're controversial simply because of people who don't know anything about them and jump to conclusions as a result. Thus, scare tactics were begun by those who didn't understand.

The most controversial thing about them is probably fact that many influential citizens throughout history and around the world have been Masons. Thus, many conspiracy theories came about regarding the group and these people.

The Masons are a fraternal, centuries old organization, but who just happen to be exclusive in membership. According to things I've read, they live their life according to the virtues of friendship, morality, brotherly love, relief of the distressed, and truth.

However, as far as I know, Freemasonry requires belief in a creator for membership, whoever or whatever that may be. It has something or other to do with the philosophy of the group, in that if you don't believe in a creator, you won't be able to grasp the philosophy to it's fullest extent.

So you could be a Jewish freemason, or a Catholic or Muslim freemason?

From what I understand they use to be powerful (in like the 1800's-early 1900s), but now they aren't that big of a deal.

Well unless that's just what they want people to think.

During the age of Jackson we had the Anti-Masonic Party, a political party with the primary platform of being against the Masons. They eventually merged with the Whigs, I believe.

At least memorize the group song.

Who controls the British crown

Who keeps the metric system down

We do!

We do!

Who leaves Atlantis off the maps

Who keeps the Martians under wraps

We do!

We do!

Who holds back the electric car

Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star

We do!

We do!

Who robs the cave fish of their sight

Who rigs every Oscar night

We do!

We do!

Sorry. The stonecutter episode of the Simpsons was the first thing that popped into my head.

That's just disturbing for me. My Grandfather was a Freemason, and he's not the kind of guy I picture doing that sort of thing.

It's funny, both my dad and his father have Masonic membership and they say it's a Christian-based organization.

Masonry is a fraternal organization that promotes brotherhood between members. You had anti-masonic groups b/c they would look at the effects of decisions on the other members of the group foremost and several influential members of Freemasonry were definitely important. George Washington, Jefferson, Adams, etc.

Few things actually stood above the importance of brotherhood for Freemasons. British troops during the American Revolution, would go to mason meetings and then be upset about shooting fellow members. Americans, on the other hands, had no such compunctions.

Leave the jumpsuit alone. It brings in all those fly Klingon honeys.

Besides, knowing you, you'll just blame JFK's assassination on Courtney Love.
