Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted June 1, 2003 X-Box + X-Box Live What if he doesn't have a high speed? What if he doesn't want to pay a fee every month? You don't have to pay every month. It's $49 for the Live kit + Xbox Communicator. That includes a year of service. It's well worth it if you've got broadband.

I love how all of the X Box fanboys always say "You don't have to pay for X Box Live every month" Well, thats true for now...however, when that 1 year subscription that came with the X Box live starter kit runs out..I can't wait for the bitching to comence. I've heard fees could run between $6.95 and $12.95 a month...and trust me, there WILL be monthly fees, although Microsoft might run a $99 special for a year or something like that... And, how many more people will Microsoft be able to get to sign up for the X Box live service since it needs a broadband connection. Very few people have broadband connections...and they are already paying 30+ a month for the broadband access..
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Shit, why wouldn't you just buy a new XBox live system for $49 each year rather than shelling out that every month. I mean if you get a one year subscription every time, why the hell not?

Renewals are 49.99. A new Live kit after this first year is up will be 69.99. However, all Live games will come with a trial period..after which, you can renew just like a regular customer. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I love how all of the X Box fanboys always say "You don't have to pay for X Box Live every month" What a coincidence because I love how the X-Box haters always make up fake info and misleading facts to put down the system even better. Why is that? Why is there such hatred for a simple game system? Don't like the system, don't play it but people can't seem to do that when it comes to X-Box. Hate, hate, hate. Doesn't make much sense to me. There just seems to be this massive jealously complex people have with Microsoft. Just like popular music and movies. Ooh, they're succesful, can't like them, that takes away my street cred.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I used to be, on this forum for that matter, blindly anti-Xbox. Then I got one and the other two systems collect dust.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 aside from some exclusive titles and a jump on Sony as far as an established online gaming experience goes, there is no major difference between XBox and PS2 in my eyes. Apples and Oranges. and seeing how PS2 has more games and backwards compatibility with the PS1 games, Sony wins. Love or hate the XBox, Sony is getting more and more of a strangehold on the console market. And when the PS3 hits, I can;t fathom anything that will be close... GC is already drying up, Sega has folded completely, the only competition left is the XBox, and they have to do things perfectly over the next couple of years to be able to keep up, especially now that Sony is having finanical troubles, but I simply refuse to trust Microsoft to that degree. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 It seems that the people that have both GC and XBox are all pro XBox. And the people without the Box are the ones who vote against it. Must be something to that.

Must be something to that. That's pretty much where I sit. I've almost completely abandoned my GC in favor of the XBox. Mostly because I've getting into sports more these days. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I've played XBox plenty at my friend's house and I own a Gamecube. I've had more fun with my Cube than I've ever had on his Xbox. Maybe cause I'm not into sports games and got tired of Halo.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Although Nintendo is planning for the future, it sort of is a matter of time until the companies that have multimillion dollar other arms of operations (software, electronics, EverQuest, etc) and already have contracts to some of the most successful ad agencies in the world are going to win out against the companies that work exclusively in games. I like Microsoft being around simply because there's very few companies on the planet who can compete with their checkbook. All those who cried of "There's no room for 3 consoles" are now eating crow and we're benefitting from compeition with lower prices and more innovation than we've seen in years. This is not to say that buying a GameCube is foolish. It will live out it's lifecycle before you find yourself playing Metroid on a Sony or Microsoft machine, but the wheels are already in motion. Third parties are stopping their cube support. Nintendo has gone from being arrogant in the 16 bit era ("You'll work with us or work with nobody at all!") to being ambivalent to the N64 ("Make games for our system if you want, but hope it can work on a cartridge") to now being very humble and offering up Miyamoto partnerships with guys like Hideo Kojima to try and keep some people onboard. The Sony PSP will decide whether it will be a long or slow death, but Nintendo must have the McMahons as consultants or something because focusing your biggest show of they year on the Cube/GBA linkup was the stupidest thing since Undertaker vs El Gigante. (E3 press release) Xbox Live one year renewal/subscription: $49.99 Xbox Live monthly rate: $5.99 Xbox Live Voice Communicator: $29.99 Xbox Live Starter Kit: $69.99 First off, I can guarantee you that the prices will go up for the X Box Live service, Microsoft isn't stupid. X Box live is the one unique feature to the X Box, and its probably the one thing that will make them some money in the short term. But the problem is that once the majority of people who have the X Box sign up for X Box Live, it will be tough for them to sign up a good number of new people for the service, except right after the Christmas holiday. And I appologize for stating a rumor I heard a couple months ago. I didn't follow the X Box at E3, so I didn't know that they put up that pricing plan. But it was still close to what I heard ($6.95 on the low end vs $5.99 actual).

I would rather have any Nintendo first party game over the majority of crap that the 3rd Parties put out. Most third party games are just software library filler designed to make it look like a console has a lot of games. I think this is the main reason why most 3rd party games are selling horrible on the Gamecube though. If you compare the average 3rd party game to something like Metroid Prime or Legend of Zelda, there is no contest. The good news is that there are some solid 3rd party games headed for the Gamecube over the next few months, most of them from Capcom and are mostly Gamecube exclusive(P.N. 03, Dead Phoenix, Resident Evil 4, Killer 7, and Viewtiful Joe.) And I'd like to point out that Nintendo is signing on a lot of 3rd parties that are unheard of or have had very few established titles. I think this is a solid decision, since they might put out some sleeper games. Sony obviously has the best overall lineup of games that appeal to a wide array of people. But for my money, Nintendo still puts out some of the best games on any system. Sure, there might only be a few of them out each year, but I don't have a whole lot of spare time to spend playing games, so that isn't a big issue to me. And yes, the fact that the majority of people who own Gamecubes are diehard nintendo fanboys who buy up all the new first party games Nintendo throws at us and buy next to nothing from the 3rd parties is probably the main reason why the gamecube is stuggling. But as long as Nintendo keeps pumping out the awesome games and the occasional good 3rd party game comes along, we'll be happy.
