Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted June 3, 2003 National Law Journal's Annual 'Winning' Section PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2003--Kirkpatrick & Lockhart ("K&L") partner Jerry S. McDevitt has been profiled by The National Law Journal ("NLJ") in its annual "winning" feature describing the accomplishments of ten of the top trial lawyers in the country. McDevitt was chosen because of his established record of obtaining favorable jury verdicts during his career. Each year, The NLJ selects and profiles 10 trial attorneys nationwide who are among the nation's best at establishing credibility with jurors. The publication traditionally bases its selection on two factors: the attorney has created a long record of courtroom successes and has won at least one recent high profile jury trial. Past winners have included Johnnie Cochran, Gerry Spence, and David Boies. McDevitt, who began his legal career in K&L's Pittsburgh office in 1980, is perhaps best known for his representation of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. ("WWE"). He recently represented the WWE in a civil jury trial in a New York federal court against sexual harassment charges brought by Nicole Bass, a former WWE talent and the largest female bodybuilder in the world. The suit claimed $120 million in damages due to an alleged sexual assault by another WWE talent and other indignities Bass claimed to have endured. Following trial, the WWE received a defense verdict on all counts. In addition to representing the WWE, McDevitt has been involved in other high profile matters, including the representation of Dick Morris, former advisor to President Clinton, and in the pro bono representation of the estate of a young Pittsburgh woman, Judy Barrett, who had been found at a bus stop shot with the service revolver of her fiance, Brentwood police officer John Vojtas. In the Barrett case, following a month-long jury trial, McDevitt obtained a jury verdict against Vojtas that is believed to be the only verdict in American legal history holding another person legally responsible for causing a suicide. The case highlighted the unusual problems created when domestic abuse is inflicted by a police officer and tolerated by the police department. The jury awarded both compensatory and punitive damages. McDevitt has been featured in various publications for his case wins and client successes, such as The American Lawyer ("Hulk Helpers," November 1999), The National Law Journal ("The Greatest Show in Court: 'Wrestlemania,'" April 12, 1993) and local newspapers such as the Pittsburgh Post Gazette ("Lawyer Goes to War for World Wrestling Federation," November 9, 1999). "Twenty two years ago, I joined an organization of men and women at K&L who shared a common goal of being the kind of law firm that made a difference in the outcome of matters entrusted to us by those we serve," says McDevitt. "We have expanded that goal and institutional ethic nationwide, and I am both honored and humbled by this award recognizing our achievement." McDevitt is one member of K&L's nationwide litigation practice, which operates from ten offices across the country. McDevitt and 34 other K&L litigators in its various offices have previously been selected for listing in "The Best Lawyers in America." K&L litigators, who number over 400, have appeared in state or federal courts in 47 of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, every United States Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Kirkpatrick & Lockhart is a national law firm with approximately 700 lawyers in Boston, Dallas, Harrisburg, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Washington. K&L serves a dynamic and growing clientele in regional, national and international markets, currently representing more than half of the Fortune 100. The firm's practice embraces three major areas--litigation, corporate and regulatory--and related fields. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # As you saw, a Gail Kim vignette aired on last night's RAW. The promo had a very "Matrix" feel to it, which has led some to believe that she'll be portrayed as someone who defies gravity in the ring. She is said to be extremely athletic and some even refer to her as the female version of Rey Mysterio. She was originally scheduled to be part of the Smackdown brand, but the decision was made to move her to RAW in order to showcase her in-ring ability. # During the segment on Smackdown a few weeks back where the F.B.I. trapped Brock Lesnar in his locker room with a forklift, the forklift wasn't supposed to go through the wall. At the conclusion of the show, when officials were attempting to remove it, a piece of the wall broke off and broke Bruce Pritchard's orbital bone.
