The Flair/Anderson feud

Recommended Posts

I have one of those WCW "Best OF" series tapes, and one of those clipped matches I saw was from the Fall Brawl PPV in 1995 with Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson. Anderson SHOCKED the world by beating Flair. I totally marked out, because I was rooting for Arn to win, and he won. Thanks to Brian Pillman, of course. But, I loved the Ric Flair/Arn Anderson feud from back 1995 WCW. It was definately one of the best, IMO.

I thought it was pretty good - never saw the Horsmen reforming, that caught me offguard.

From my memory, I believe the feud came about when Flair was routinely sending Arn in to do the dirty work that Flair didn't want to do. This was most evident at the August 95 Clash of the Champions where Vader met both men in a handicap match, going over Anderson clean after Flair was too scared to make the save.

I believe Arn also had words with Flair after a match with Alex Wright on Saturday Night, saying he killed the kid in 10 minutes at Slamboree but Flair could barely get by the rookie.

I liked the fact Arn went over, as it was the only surprise of the night, but I could have done without Pillman's interference or Arn turning heel.

Also don't forget Flair was relying constantly on Arn to cheat, like in his match with Wright.

He had him in the figure four, and Wright was reversing it so he yelled at Arn to help him by pulling him torwards the ropes or turn it back ove,r but Arn walked off.

It would have been better if they would do a swerve with it either in the 80's or an early 90's for make them even bigger heels......

They did do the Swerve A month later...

Still one of the best swerves in Wrestling history...

The Flair/Anderson match was great ****1/2 that seems to get forgotten...

Oh, yeah. This feud was excellent - and some damn good matches too. I remember scratching my head as to why on earth they would turn Flair - after all, there hardly seemed like there was any heels left. Or at least that was how it seemed when all we got was the Disneyland tapings and carefully selected clips to explain storylines...

Then of course, the AWESOME Sting/Flair vs Pillman/Anderson match. I don't think I've ever been caught surprised like that.

I really enjoyed the feud. The reformation of the Four Horsemen was a great payoff.

I'm now dubbing off that EXACT tape for someone as I clicked on this thread!

What a match it was. I'd even go as far to say, it was one of the best WCW matches of all-time.

I wouldn't say ALL TIME. I gave it ****. Flair has had TONS of great matches by himselfin the 80s.

At least one of the finer matches of the Hogan Rotting WCW era.
