Most blatant/offensive show unsportsmanship

Also, the Ripken thing, especially in an exhibition game, wasn't really bad sportsmanship. Perhaps cheesy, but it wasn't bad sportsmanship. It wasn't as if there were any records or anything but Ripken's legacy at stake, so it wasn't exactly a show of bad sportsmanship.

I concur, especially since there really isn't any proof that Park gave Ripkin a gimme. Besides, Park hasn't been too adept at getting anyone else out the last two years.

And that, boys and girls, is part of the reason why Dodgers/Giants is the best rivalry in the history of American sports. (Screw your Yankees/BoSox...if you're not trying to physically maim the other side, you just ain't tryin hard enough... :) )

Gee, you must not remember Graig Nettles cheap shots on Bill Lee's pitching shoulder during a fight that broke out after Lou Pinella plowed into Fisk unnecessarily at the plate?

I agree- Who cares? It's the All Star Game. If it was a real game then yea- I'd have a problem with it- but the All Star Game is meaningless

If we're counting fans, how could one count out the Philly fans cheering when Michael Irvin was almost paralyzed for life?

Or the Phillies fans that tossed batteries at JD Drew in 2000?

Or the Philly fans that tossed beer at Sabres Coach after the Flyers beat the Sabres in the 2000 playoffs?

Or the Flyers fan that tried to pick a fight with Tie Domi of all people while he was sitting in the box...

Or the Rangers fans who, after Pelle Lindburg died, at the next game vs. the Flyers wore his jersey with "Dead" written on it?

Or the Nordique fans who threw batteries at Lindros his first time there?

Jackass fans are from all teams.

That guy is actually suing Tie Domi.

Was Lingburg the guy who died in the boating accident?

How about the Nets fan who held up a sign that said "Somebody please Stab Pierce!" in last year's Eastern Conference Finals?

Those aren't unsportsmanlike, they're tasteless, vulger, or hateful. But not unsportsmanlike.

No, you're thinking of Dimtri Tertyshny. Pelle Lindbergh crahsed his Porshe into a wall while driving drunk in 1985.

Eh, he had it coming, what with throwing a fit when they drafted him.

Fun Fact: Quebecolorado gave up Eric Lindros for Ron Hextall, Steve Duchesne, a bunch of other guys, and Peter Forsberg. That sure ended up being a lopsided trade in the long term.

I bet Philly and Bobby Clarke are kicking themselves. They could have blamed their shortcomings this past year on Cechmanek AND Forsberg.

I don't know how "unsportsmanlike" it was, but the New Jersey fans booing J-S Giguere last night really set me off. Your team just won the Cup, and you're going to boo this kid that all but carried his team to a game 7?! I know it's not his home town team, but he deserved it more than anyone on either roster.

Yeah, fuck the Devils fans for that.

Though I did recall watching the '87 Cup on ESPN Classic a while ago, and the Edmonton fans booed Hextall getting the Conn Smythe. It was a local Philadelphia broadcast too, so the guys were like "Oh come on Edmonton! Please! Stop it, Edmonton!" it was almost JR-like in its pleas.

Whatever. I'm not familiar with the backstory of that postseason, but with Greztky, Messier, Kurri, McSorley, Anderson, and Fuhr, you'd think one of them would've been MVP.

Ron Hextall carried the Flyers that entire postseason. They were the only team to take that Edmonton dynasty to seven games in the finals. He deserved it.

Remember, the Conn Smythe trophy goes to MVP of the playoffs, not just the finals. Giguere deserved to win it.

Even w/ Forsberg, there's no guarantee Philly would have won any Cups by now. With Clarke's reluctance to get a top goalie, and reliance on bruisers over speed & skill guys, I don't know if Forsberg would have been enough to win it all.

I think it was Hextall's rookie year, and he basically carried the Flyers to the 7th game of the Finals. With all the talent on the Oilers, Philly had no right to take them to 7.

Forsberg might not have blossomed like he has, but there's no keeping down true talent. He would have made his way up somehow.

Or just left when his contract was up.

I don't know if the Devil fans where booing Giggy, or booing the fact a Devil didn't win the Playoff MVP.

It was both, but there was no reason to boo him. The right man won it.

Gary Bettman was also on the ice. He seems to receive a rather negative response when he shows up.

It's just that Philly fans act like jackasses better than most other fans.

And it's true about Bettman getting booed every time he's on the ice. When he was booed at the Fleet Center for the Ray Bourque 77 retirement ceremony, he actually said "But I come bearing gifts" in response to the jeers.
