Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 10, 2003 I can appreciate good writing, and if there's good writing behind a slightly talented pop group it can produce a classic pop song. But it's quite rare. Yeah, but sadly most of the lyrics for pop songs are so trite and transparent they make me want to gag.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Know what band writes some interesting lyrics, at least in my eyes? Biohazard. Why? Because the lyrics are mostly about self-empowerment, getting drunk, or issues that you'd expect Jon Davis to piss and moan about. And yet Evan Seinfeld is all like "yeah, I'm the man" when screaming/singing/rapping. ...Evan Seinfeld fucking rules...
Guest DARRYLXWF Report post Posted June 11, 2003 "So, Led Zeppelin...what does he play?" Man, I've heard that said tonnes of times. Even back when my younger brother actually saw Zeppelin on on the T.V, he'd always think that Jimmy Page's name WAS Led Zeppelin, and that the group was named after him....ah memories. Guest notJames Report post Posted June 11, 2003 This one's for saturnmark: I used to be the program director for my college radio station back in the early 90s. One of my jobs was to monitor fledgling DJs during their shifts to critique them, give them pointers, etc. Anyway, one of our less bright girls got a request for a Smiths song. So after the song, she starts her talk-up (a run-down of the songs she just played, in case you didn't know): "And that was the Smiths with "Cemetry Gates". And I don't know about you, but the singer sounds an awful lot like Morrissey." I switched her to the early early morning Sunday shift, so that no one would ever have to listen to her again. Stupid human.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted June 11, 2003 my roommate was listening to some Floyd at work.. and Gilmour had just ripped an awesome solo and one of his coworkers said and I QUOTE: "Page kicks ass~!!!"
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted June 11, 2003 On the Andrew WK thing, Saturnmark...too each his own indeed, enjoy. As far as interesting lyrics, I still stand by Mindless Self Indulgence. Completely retarded most of the time but they occasionally slip these big pieces of truth into their stuff and I like that. Thank God for instance. Oh and someone really should bring up Korn Kids experiences. (or KIDZZZ as they prefer) I really do hate to pigeonhole one whole group of people, but I think I've met roughly 2 intelligent people who like Korn and even they referenced the band as at best a guilty pleasure. For example... K Kid: You know why they kick ass? Because Jon Davis feels it. He feels every fuckin word of it. That is metal and it will always exist as long as him and his band are around. I tried to make him listen to Cradle Of Filth then. He would have none of that "gay ass british fag rock" or whatever he referenced it as. Tremendous. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 11, 2003 In case anyone asks, I didn't name myself this because of WK. It's just my real initials but I don't feel like broadcasting my real name (which isn't a bad name, just too unique). Redbaron51: Kill that child.

Guest ElectricRaccoon Report post Posted June 11, 2003 I left a fIREHOSE cd in my buddy's car, and he proceeded to mock me for being into Firehouse. I mean, I don't expect everyone to be familiar, but come on, give me SOME credit. "Man, you're into Firehouse?" is a serious accusation to be throwing around. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted June 12, 2003 I'd just like to point out that not everyone possesses the same amount of musical knowledge that a lot of us do, and that you guys should be thankful you know so much instead of being condescending on those who haven't been exposed to such a wide variety of music. However, people who DO pretend like they are music critics of any sort and then spout off comments like I've seen in this thread do deserve to be mocked, and mocked viciously. Only thing worse than a stupid fool is an ignorant, stupid fool.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 12, 2003 and then there is my friend who INSISTS that Neil Young and Ronnie Van Zant had an ongoing fued.... That's not really that stupid. I mean Sweet Home Alabama does have a line attacking Neil Young and his song Southern Man. It's understandable for someone to hear that and think they were feuding. Hell I always thought that they may have be in some sort of fued and that those two songs were public displays of said feud. I wouldnt argue about it being true, as I have no clue if it was. Tremendous. Well, that's what they are, although I wouldn't put it quite like that. They're pure cheese, and really rather shit. Their cheese factor is ridiculously high, and for some reason it ain't good, fun cheese. Its rotten, smelly cheddar.

Guest mesepher Report post Posted June 13, 2003 it's not true. this song sums it up quite nicely: Now Ronnie and Neil became good friends their feud was just in song Skynyrd was a bunch of Neil Young fans and Neil he loved that song So He wrote "Powderfinger" for Skynyrd to record But Ronnie ended up singing "Sweet Home Alabama" to the lord And Neil helped carry Ronnie in his casket to the ground And to my way of thinking, us southern men need both of them around - Patterson Hood so yeah... all rumours... all not true. Him: I mean it's ok but it has no catchy beat and the lyrics aren't making sense...Take Linkin Park for example...Now they are revolutionary...They are the only people to combine Rap and Rock so perfectly and have good lyrics to boot... me: L.P? You gotta be shittin me...that junk boy band 5th grade lyrical masterpiece of shit is revolutionary? Him: Ya wouldn't know good music if it hit you on the ass...
