Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted June 10, 2003 Damaru, not liking rap is fine. Insulting it where it appropriate is even okay. But you just show your ignorance when you call either Tyrese or model Tyson Beckford "Homie G Dawg OMG they're BLACK~!" anything because neither of them are rappers. Tyrese is an R&B singer (which granted I'm sure you still don't like) and Tyson is a highly successful male model.

Guest Mole Report post Posted June 10, 2003 I saw this movie today because I was bored and all my friends were working. I must say, HE SUCKED SOOOO MUCH BALLS. The acting was horrible, the car scenes weren't even that good, and the storyline sucked. At times, it just seemed like they needed a car chase just thrown in there. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): When the local cops were onto them after they got the money, why didn't customs just tell them what is up??? They just put that in there to have another car chase scene. It was horrible. Then, the part when the car went off the ramp and onto the boat. How the fuck did Brian know there was a ramp there? There could of been a tree. I am one of those people who can like a bad movie as a guilty pleasure. I liked the first one just because, I did for some reason. But this one was just horrible. I honestly think that Luda was the best actor in this movie. AND HE IS DAMN RAPPER!! Worse John Singleton movie ever, ever, ever.

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted June 10, 2003 I don't see anything racist about it. I seriously doubt he would be complaining if it was say Lawrence Fishburne in this movie instead.

IIRC, the past two years have seen two DAMN RAPPERS nominated for Oscars.

This was Luds first acting role with more than 5 lines, and he did a better job than anyone. Will Smith is more of an actor than a rapper now.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted June 10, 2003 Sure, Will Smith is more of an actor now, but you know where his roots are. Who's to say that ANY rapper can't achieve the same if they have the same dedication to the craft as Will does? What I don't like, and this ALL AROUND TSM is that generally anything that somehow involves black culture is looked down upon or belittled with "Homey G Dawg" bling bling statements. It may not be racist, but when that's all you see it damn sure can be offensive. I think it'd be the same if someone made those sorts of comments about ANYONE's culture. Rappers, by nature, tend to be naturally charismatic. It should be no surprise that carries over on to the big screen and can sometimes be their saving grace even when their actual acting skills are lacking. If they didn't have that innate ability I doubt they'd be cast as much as they are.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted June 10, 2003 I can enjoy a simple, mindless movie as well. Shit, one of my Top 5 favorite movies of all time stars Keanu Reeves (Devil's Advocate), and I thought he was damn good in it. But what I couldn't stand about this movie was... Paul Walker going "WHOOOOO!" and Tyrese going "HAHAHAHAHA!" every single time they pulled off a cool car stunt. The cookie-cutter "going undercover to catch a drug dealer" plot, and the fact that street racers were supposed to be able to get so close to a crime lord. The "let's all be polite and take our turns speaking" dialogue Tyrese's [sarcasm]totally badass[/sarcasm] character: "Don't tell me to shut up! YOU shut up!" That pro wrestling-level homoerotic fight scene w/Walker and Tyrese. For the rest of the movie I kept thinking those two were gonna kiss. Those are just a few. There were plenty more. And I, for one, thought Vin Diesel was WAY better in the first one than Tyrese is here. Finally, what happened when Tyson Beckford was on "Get Me out of Here?"
