TSM Comic Book Villains Tournament

I took suggestions from the previous nominations thread and seeded of my own accord, taking into account history, fame, notoriety, past storylines and the characters themselves. I seeded so that DC and Marvel (most of the nominations anyway) received the top two slots in each bracket and then cross seeded from there (meaning a DC one would be in the same bracket as a Marvel two and vice versa). These are only villains, as the hero tournament wrapped up last week. Voting will be open until at least Sunday, more if the tournament proves to be popular and ballots are flowing in. Clearly mark your selection for each match up. You may use any criteria in your voting, but mostly we are going with who are the better and more important characters to comics. I’ve decided to re-add Galactus in order to spark conversation and not belittle the importance of his complex character (Goodear convinced me).

Man do I hate me some Joker and I'll expand on it later on as he gets some tougher competition later on, but come on it's the hoppy guy with the big tongue.

Amazo is just a bunch of powers jammed into an ugly shell. Ultron brings a little bit personality which is pretty much your everyday megalomaniac. But the really neat thing about Ultron is his origin story where Hank Pym first exposes that he's got some issues as he manages to make a machine that instantly hates his guts. Hank brings the relective self-loathing.

Thanos is okay and all, but The Saint is like a bullet-proof Clint Eastwood. And not even happy Clint, we're talking ass kicking Unforgiven William Munny Clint! "PTUI! Not enough gun"

I'm not a fan of the mad dog killer types like Toothy here, so I'll go with the much better developed Feeze who just gets jammed over the top from the Batman Animated Series. Sabertooth is just way too one dimensional for me.

I'm not a fan of guys that are just plain evil because their mom was a giant or some such. I don't know Loki just never felt like a threat to me, I think its all the horns. Bizzaro on the other hand is just such a fun villian its damn near silly.

I always thought Extant was a little too nebulous as a enemy and didn't really excell at being a real presence. Big headed guy does it more but not by a whole heck of a lot.

Manta had the cool voice but not much else, GG brings the pain both mental and physical with a smile on his face. Go Green Machine.

ARGH! SO TOUGH! Two-Face is like my favorite Bat Villian while Helmut Zemo is like the anti-Captain America with the combat tactics. Crap, I'll give it to the Zemos since Henrich offed Bucky and we should all be thankful.

Dude I think you flipped the seeding here. Bane might have had one shining moment but what's he done since? Mystique brings the awesome in every incarnation and is probably more famous on every level than Bane. Emma Frost stole her whole act from the M anyway.

Nygma freaking sucks. Ozy does not. Sure Bats has a good gallery of villians but the Riddler is not one of them. Frank Gorch be damned, Ozymandias was an actual non retard that even broke out of the plan explaining villian monologue to bring the pain.

Oh yuck. One dimensional killers anyone? I'll take Doomsday just because he isn't the eviler twin of an evil twin.

I've lost track of what the heck Braniac is supposed to be anymore, but it still has to be better than the cop out that was the Dark Phoenix.

Darkseid is the master of standing around and looking menacing and then not really delivering the punch. But JLA Rock of Ages and his Superman TAS appearances out does Dracula (who was facing the X-Men for some reason).

You can't talk to forces of Nature, but you can negoiate with the G-Man if you have the right chip. I think the thing that bothers me most about Galactus is that he's soooo very powerful but exceedingly lazy as far as actually using that power to come up with a better source of food or a way to move populations away from his feeding ground. He's lazy and therefor EVIL.

Ra's is the nastiest eco terrorist in history and it makes him better than Skrully.

I don't buy into the Kingpin if only because he ends up killing all of his subordinates eventually because they look at him sideways. For a 'real word' character he should have been shot in the head about twenty times by now. Sentinels are BAD ASS though, think about it Humans fear beings they don't think are humans (mutants) so they build even MORE inhuman things to kill them! IRONY RULES YOU!

In my mind the Joker is the number one overall seed, yes. After the top seeds, the seeding gets looser from there.

 

Extant/Monarch got a decent seed because he's controlled an alternate reality, controlled an alternate future and killed a crap load of JSA'ers. That's pretty decent credentials.

Because I'm SO into this, I'm putting together a little villanous resume together for the guys so you all can get a taste for what they were at their worst. Any additions/corrections would be awesome since I can't really remember a real evil moment with some guys marked with ???.

(16) Toad - Drained Karl Lykos' wife's entire life force into Lykos so he would become Sauron permanently

 

(8) Ultron - Did he blow up a country or something on his last outing?

(9) Amazo - I don't know if he got to kill some of the second rate JLAers like Vibe and Steel or not. General thuggery.

 

(5) Thanos - Wiped out half of all life to curry Death's favor (they got better), Killed about every Marvel hero at once (they got better too), turned Nebula some half living thingus.

Super Skrull-engineered super soldier of the skrull with the combined powers of the Fanatastic Four. Kidnapped Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel during the Kree-Skrull war. Kidnapped a girl who the power to warp all reality, but she wished away her own powers to thwart her captor.

 

Sandman-Threw a high school football game, worked as hired muscle for the mob, severe assault of a man named Vic Rollins for stealing his girl, member of the Frightful Four, member of the Sinister Six, tried to kill a senator, nemesis of Spider-Man

 

Poison Ivy-Also tried to get into Batman's pants. Took over Robinson Park while Gotham City was seperated from the rest of the US and became a cult leader to a bunch of orphans.

 

Solomon Grundy-Serial killer and general thug. Re-animated and mutated corpse of general sleazebag Cyrus Gold. Killed two escaped convicts for their clothes, went on a crime and killing spree from there. Killed the Professor who resurrected him after Alan Scott had Grundy hit by a train. Killed Skyman. Killed the descedent of a hooker Gold swore vengeance against. Hates Alan Scott.

 

Sinestro-Rogue Green Lantern who left his predessor to die and therefore took up his mantel. Used his powers to take over his home world. Banished to the Qward dimension, which he took over and claimed a yellow power ring. Arch enemy of Hal Jordan.
