Probably not too obscure, kind of recent too, but one I bring up when people are trying to find a comedy, to think of something no one has really seen, Buying the Cow. It has Jerry O'Connell, Bill Belemy and Ryan Reynolds. It has its moments (i.e. Ryan Reynold's "Spider-man" scene).

None of these are overly obscure but all are great:

One Day in September (won Oscar for Best Documentary back around 2000)

GRUNT: The Wrestling Movie

Suburbia (Dick Linklater's next film after Dazed and Confused)

Virgin Suicides (Sofia Coppola's first movie)

Bottle Rocket (Wes Anderson's first movie)

Another View Askew one which I have not seen is Catching Flies (I believe is the title)

Has anyone seen Funny Games?

Seriously, it's mental! If that movie doesn't make you sick then you're cold.

It's Drawing Flies, and it's pretty bad, I'd say it's the worst VA movie.

The only other VA movie is Big Helium Dog, which I'm dying to see, but they won't release the DVD yet!

Virgin Suicides indeed rules

I wouldn't say Virgin Suicides is an obscure movie. Josh Hartnett and Kirsten Dunst were in it AND MTV gave the movie a video package when presenting Sofia Coppola with the Best New Filmmaker Award a couple of years back.

I haven't seen many obscure movies so these might be somewhat common.

Eight Days a Week

Pups

Pups? The Burt Reynolds Movie?

I've seen some obscure movies in my day, mostly I've only watched them once and forgot about them.

I saw Series 7: Contenders mostly because it was filmed in the next town over from where I lived in CT. I spent the whole movie finding places I knew. Which was definatly plentiful.

As for GayNiggers from Outter Space, if you know where to look, you can find it. it's not terrible by any means, but I strongly suggest being under the influence of SOMETHING before you watch it.

Castle Freak.

I watched it when I was quite young and it was geuinely scary.

Also, Phallus In Wonderland.

Backbeat

All about the Beatles in Germany, basically the story of Stuart Sutcliffe. First R-rated movie I saw in a theater. I hated the movie, but played the hell out of the soundtrack.

Angel Heart

Robert De Niro playing a guy named Louis Cypher(took me a while to figure out what that meant before they revealed it). Mickey Rourke putting in a good performance. And the movie that got Lisa Bonet fired from Cosby.

Kick ass movie too.

Saw that one. Decent performances from Giovanni Ribisi and the queen of the B-movies, Parker Posey.

Another in a long line of erotic thrillers featuring Mr. Rourke (9 1/2 Weeks, Wild Orchid). I heard once that Rourke and Bonet had gotten so worked up during one of their sex scenes that they finally did it in a broom closet. Take from that what you will.

Has anyone seen Wisdom? It was written and directed by Emilio Estevez and featured him and Demi Moore in the lead roles. Sort of a modern day Robin Hood story with a twist at the end.

Louis Cypher

Wasn't that also the name of the traitor in the first Matrix? And of course it's Lou Cypher = Lucifer. I also didn't catch that till someone pointed it out.

I wouldn't consider it an erotic thriller. There was one major sex scene but that was about it.

Killer Condom: The Rubber that Rubs you Out (I know at least CHUD has heard of it)

I've heard of this, only because I'm 99% sure Troma has the rights to it and released it.

Also, Castle Freak isn't obscure, as it's touted as probably the best Full Moon movie outside of the early Puppet Master ones.

A few more outta my basket:

Hunk

Last To Surrender

Crisis (aka Dead End)

Bloody Birthday

The Mutilator (1983)

Offerings

Starstruck (aka Starfucker)

Seven Girlfriends

City of God.

It was out in arthouse theatres at the end of last year and earlier this year. It was the best movie I've seen in about 3 years. Critics and whoever saw it compared it to Gangs of New York, but City of God is what Gangs wanted to be. Just an awesome movie and you guys should check it out when it hits DVD. I promise you won't be disappointed.

doink:

Yes, The Item is good. Kung-fu transvestites, a phallic creature, tons of fat jokes, and acting that is so obviously over-the-top it's spectacular. It's SOV (Shot-On-Video), but digital, so don't expect superb quality footage.

The Convent is another one. I love that movie so much.

Interesting that you make that comparison, because I first saw the trailer for City of God preceding Gangs of New York, and was quite excited that it'd come to the Nickelodeon, Santa Cruz' "art house theatre" (because for some reason none of the chains would carry it), unfortunately it never did (at least not that I was aware of...).

Do you have any details/dates on a DVD release? I'd love to see it.
