LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 What's a movie that you expected to be horrible and ended up not minding as much or really liking? Something you went into thinking it would be horrible and ended up being alright. For me, one I thought would be bad which I thought was okay in the end was Like Mike, as I mentioned in the Rapper/Actor thread. Other honorable mentions for this for me are Time Machine and Reign of Fire. Wasn't expecting anything from either and ended up being alright. Something that was good that I wasn't sure of was Transporter. I get to see movies in advance with connections to a movie store, so I rented Transporter in advance thinking for the heck of it and ended up really enjoying it. I still can't remember ever seeing anything for it when it was out in the theater, which is really strange. Anything that surprised you by being good or at least more watchable than you thought? Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 godthedog is going to kill me... Searching for Bobby Fischer. It came on and I scoffed..."I'm not watching some stupid movie about a kid playing chess". I was mistaken.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Meet the Parents seemed a little too romancy for my taste at first, but it turned out to be an all time favorite. And since Old School has just come out on dvd, I'll say that too.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 11, 2003 godthedog is going to kill me... Searching for Bobby Fischer. It came on and I scoffed..."I'm not watching some stupid movie about a kid playing chess". I was mistaken. Same goes for me, I was very shocked at that. I'm only mentioning this next one because it's on TBS right now, but I LOVE Desperate Measures for some reason.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Meet the Parents seemed a little too romancy for my taste at first, but it turned out to be an all time favorite. Meet the Parents is my personal favorite comedy that I've ever seen. I could put the DVD in right now and watch the entire thing, I'm obsessed with the film. Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Kung Pow. I saw the previews that hyped the cheesy Matrix spoof(which got incredibley old by that point) and thought "Man this movie looks like it sucks.....and it looks like it cost 5 bucks to make." Then I watched it. I've never had to hit the rewind in a movie so much. I was laughing so hard that I'd miss the next 5 minutes and have to rewatch it. God that movie ruled. Now if only they'd do another like it.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Legally Blonde. Are your panties in a bunch due to anticipation of the sequel? I was suprised by Legally Blonde too. The sequel looks really dumb, but it might suprise me. The Ring was A LOT scarier then I thought it would, the scariest movie I've ever seen actually. Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted June 11, 2003 8 Crazy Nights is something that I expected to be horrible... I laughed out loud several times, though. Also, I wasn't expecting anything from Frailty since I didn't know it was out until the day I saw it, but it turned out to be quite swank.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Meet the Parents seemed a little too romancy for my taste at first, but it turned out to be an all time favorite. Meet the Parents is my personal favorite comedy that I've ever seen. I could put the DVD in right now and watch the entire thing, I'm obsessed with the film. Does anyone besides me not like that movie? I didn't find Stiller's character very likeable, and I'm not a fan of DeNiro in comedies.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Matrix I saw the previews and thought "oh great Keanu gets to ruin another movie that could've been great". I fucking loathe Keanu motherfucking Reeves so any movie with him in it starts out on a bad foot with me. Surprisingly Keanu was tolerable...as the movie played to his total lack of ability and had him play a robotic character. I really liked it much to my surprise. However, the fanboys have since killed my love of it. The fanboys are why I don't have a great desire to see the sequels now. I want to see them, but there are many movies I want to see before. Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted June 11, 2003 I gotta agree with Searching for Bobby Fischer(Is there a DVD of it? If not, there NEEDS to be one), Legally Blonde & Frailty. My Toss-Ins: Boiler Room(Pretty good cast w/Nicky Katt, Vin Diesel, etc.) Ice Age
Guest mach7 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Honestly? Identity. I didn't think much of it going in, and came out really pleased. I am itching for it to come out on DVD since I only got to see it once in the theatre.

Guest caboose Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Jurassic Park 3 shocked me in half-decentness. Going in to see it I thought it would be all flash without the subtlety of the first one. Especially considering I hate Jurassic Park 2. But to my surprise JP3 was entertaining even without Spielberg directing.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 11, 2003 I agree with 100 Girls, I was expecting a crappy teen comedy, but it was far and away better then any of the other movies like it that was going on at the same time...maybe no American Pie though. Blair Witch 2...it was actually spooky. Most people shit on it cause for some reason the thing to do was say you loved the first one when it was indy but hate it when it went big. So I don't think this got a fair shot. Out Cold as well. Funny movie. And Motha f'n Bubble Boy...I laughed my balls off at that one.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Session 9 - surprisingly good horror movie Sixth Sense shocked me at the time I saw it. I had no idea it would be that good. It was opening night so I had not yet heard the overwhelming word of mouth Out of Sight - this was before I took Clooney seriously as an actor (look at this work prior to then and you'll see why) but this movie was surprisingly very good , and introduced me to Soderbergh. Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 Josie and the Pussycats -- Dujuor... an obviously gay band. An addictive song entitled "Backdoor Lover". Alan Cumming as a British band manager. 'Nuff said. Oh, wait, there's a chick band in there? Darn.. I fast-forwarded through all their parts. Ah well... they weren't important. Red Dragon -- Doubt anyone will believe me, but I actually never wanted to see this. I just wasn't a horror fan at all. Norton's performance got me really into the movie, as well as the character of Hannibal Lecter. So, of course, that got me started on the whole Hannibal obsession, and made me a fan of Norton's. The Hot Chick -- I hate Rob Schneider... honestly I do. I never watched any of his retarded movies before this one. Like Red Dragon, it was a movie that mom rented and pretty much forced me to watch. And.. damn... who know Rob could be such a pretty boy? Erm... did I say that out loud?

Guest notJames Report post Posted June 11, 2003 When I saw that Brad Pitt was starring in some weird film called Fight Club, I decided to avoid it at all costs. At the time, I hated the pretty boy and thought he had no viable acting skills. The poor advertisement treatment also added to my conviction to boycott, as all I saw was just another dumb action flick with lots of quickly-edited cuts and set to MTV-friendly noise. Luckily, a friend of mine pimped it to no end, so I was willing to give it a shot when it came out on video. I gladly ate my words after seeing it. Glad I also bought the special edition DVD before it went out of print.
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 I found Josie and the Pussycats to be surprisingly good as well. ...I swear I'm not a 12 year old girl. Neither am I. You don't have to be a preteen to enjoy some good acting. *is 17* Glad I also bought the special edition DVD before it went out of print. It's out of print?! Fuck! Then it'll probably be expensive on eBay.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted June 11, 2003 I also agree with Bubble Boy, it was so absurd and different that I had to like it. The critics complete and utter thrashing of that film killed any slim chance of Bubble Boy being a success.
