LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2003 What's a movie that you expected to be horrible and ended up not minding as much or really liking? Something you went into thinking it would be horrible and ended up being alright. For me, one I thought would be bad which I thought was okay in the end was Like Mike, as I mentioned in the Rapper/Actor thread. Other honorable mentions for this for me are Time Machine and Reign of Fire. Wasn't expecting anything from either and ended up being alright. Something that was good that I wasn't sure of was Transporter. I get to see movies in advance with connections to a movie store, so I rented Transporter in advance thinking for the heck of it and ended up really enjoying it. I still can't remember ever seeing anything for it when it was out in the theater, which is really strange. Anything that surprised you by being good or at least more watchable than you thought? I saw the previews that hyped the cheesy Matrix spoof(which got incredibley old by that point) and thought "Man this movie looks like it sucks.....and it looks like it cost 5 bucks to make." Then I watched it. I've never had to hit the rewind in a movie so much. I was laughing so hard that I'd miss the next 5 minutes and have to rewatch it. God that movie ruled. The sequel looks really dumb, but it might suprise me. The Ring was A LOT scarier then I thought it would, the scariest movie I've ever seen actually. I fucking loathe Keanu motherfucking Reeves so any movie with him in it starts out on a bad foot with me. Surprisingly Keanu was tolerable...as the movie played to his total lack of ability and had him play a robotic character. I really liked it much to my surprise. However, the fanboys have since killed my love of it. The fanboys are why I don't have a great desire to see the sequels now. I want to see them, but there are many movies I want to see before. Blair Witch 2...it was actually spooky. Most people shit on it cause for some reason the thing to do was say you loved the first one when it was indy but hate it when it went big. It was opening night so I had not yet heard the overwhelming word of mouth Out of Sight - this was before I took Clooney seriously as an actor (look at this work prior to then and you'll see why) but this movie was surprisingly very good , and introduced me to Soderbergh. 'Nuff said. Oh, wait, there's a chick band in there? Darn.. I fast-forwarded through all their parts. Ah well... they weren't important. Red Dragon -- Doubt anyone will believe me, but I actually never wanted to see this. I just wasn't a horror fan at all. Norton's performance got me really into the movie, as well as the character of Hannibal Lecter. So, of course, that got me started on the whole Hannibal obsession, and made me a fan of Norton's. The Hot Chick -- I hate Rob Schneider... honestly I do. I never watched any of his retarded movies before this one. Like Red Dragon, it was a movie that mom rented and pretty much forced me to watch. At the time, I hated the pretty boy and thought he had no viable acting skills. The poor advertisement treatment also added to my conviction to boycott, as all I saw was just another dumb action flick with lots of quickly-edited cuts and set to MTV-friendly noise. Luckily, a friend of mine pimped it to no end, so I was willing to give it a shot when it came out on video. I gladly ate my words after seeing it.
