Guest JHawk Report post Posted June 13, 2003 SmackDown from JHawk's Beak (6/12/2003) Yes, a tornado warning (with no tornado) pre-empted the last 30 minutes of SD in Cleveland, but I still give you the full rundown. Feedback it.

Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted June 13, 2003 The tornado warning in Cleveland! AHHHHHHHHH! I just got back into town from school yesterday, was dead-ass tired and wanted to kick back with a nice cold beer and watch SmackDown. I'd heard about the crazy ending with the ring collapsing and wanted to see it myself. .... and then we got a weather ticker on the bottom of the screen. OK, I can live with that. And THEN we got the Channel 43 weather team cutting off SD to talk about a tornado that DIDN'T HAPPEN for 35 minutes. So you have one rural area that is an hour outside of town on the Penn. border that MIGHT experience some weather and you'll talk about it for 35 MINUTES. What really got me was when the idiot started telling people, "Now, if you're on the roads out there right now, you might want to get in." HEY DIPSHIT, if somebody is on the roads driving, then they are NOT LISTENING TO YOU right now. My pops got so fed up with the situation, he called into the station and I believe his exact words to the Channel 43 people were "Who the fuck made the decision to talk about this for 35 minutes? Are you fucking stupid? Why are we watching this right now? There is abso-..." and they hung up. Dumbasses. Then again, it took about 15 minutes to get through so I'm betting we probably weren't the only ones pissed off.
Guest croweater Report post Posted June 13, 2003 It's beyond my logic what on earth they could talk about for 35 minutes? Please enlighten me........
Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Good stuff. You make a bad show good, and a good show great. Not that you've ever reviewed a good show You know you can use a <hr> tag to put a line before the commercial break, instead of the "---". If that made no sense, just try it and see Nik
Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted June 13, 2003 It's beyond my logic what on earth they could talk about for 35 minutes? Please enlighten me........ That's just it- they had NOTHING. This was a complete non-story and they came on the air full of bluster about what a big deal this was and how they were going to stick with it. After a few minutes, it became readily apparent that nothing was developing and that this was probably a non-issue, they had two choices: be honest and SAY there's nothing new to report or just keep pressing the issue and forcing us to accept it. Of course, they chose the latter. If I had a dollar for every single time I heard that idiot weatherman say "again..." and start repeating information he just talked about 3 minutes before, I wouldn't need to be working this summer. The whole thing just reeked of desperation on the station's part. And for the record, none of the other local stations did this. Two of them had a little weather map in the corner of the screen (somewhat annoying, but not a big deal... at least you aren't missing anything). The local NBC affiliate didn't even have a ticker or anything, meaning it was a complete non-story to them. But, bah gawd, Channel 43 was gonna hammer this home until you thought you were caught in the middle of Armaggeddon. Assholes.
Guest JHawk Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I wasn't aware of that, Nik, and I've been looking for a better way to do that. Tino, my main problem with it was that the poor weather guy was more or less admitting they had nothing and they still kept at it. Christ, I live in Trumbull County and the "tornado" was already past ME when they cut to it. Why the hell a station can't let you watch a show and then give an update the next commercial break (always less than 10 minutes later) still boggles my mind. If something major happens, of course you cut away. But they had nothing, and it felt like a term paper. "Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them."
