Guest INXS Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 TNN has changed all plans to launch its new name, Spike TV, this Monday. They will continue with their programming changes, but the network's name will remain The New TNN. This all comes as a result of Spike Lee's lawsuit against Viacom over the name "Spike." Viacom has also taken down www.spiketv.com and changed the TNN website to no longer mention Spike TV. A panel of judges will begin hearing this case in more detail on Tuesday, but for now, the name change has been delayed. 411mania.com My real name is Michael so I think I shall sue Michael Jordan for endorsement infringement or maybe sue John Travoltra(sp ?) for the movie Michael.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Lesson of the day: Johnny Cochran never loses.
Guest BifEverchad Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 My God, the stupidity continues. Look how much money they have wasted on this fiasco so far. Spike Lee is a moron. It's just a name of a network. He aint the only Spike in the world. Oh, he had Johnnie Cochran?
Guest Eagan469 Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 heh - looks like they were in a hurry to take down all the SpikeTV references: http://www.thenewtnn.com
Guest Anglesault Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Spike Lee hasn't mattered to anyone in the last five or six years, so he found something to get his name in the news. Clever, but certainly not original.
Guest JHawk Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Why hasn't he sued Nickelodeon over the use of Spike the dog in Rugrats? Or sued the the game of volleyball for the "spike"? Or sued Spike Dudley for being called Spike? Can I sue Spike Lee for wasting vaulable internet bandwidth?
Guest Quik Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Guys, I've got an idea to get Spike to drop the lawsuit. We'll dress up as ghosts and run around the front of his house, thus scaring him away. And if that doesn't work, we can always burn a lower-case t in front of his house... y'know "t- Time to Leave"
Guest JHawk Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Since they can't use "Spike TV", and since they want to be the first network for men, why not play off of "Lifetime" and call it "Death Bed"?
Guest Eagan469 Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 I'm not seeing why the name change is such a big deal in the first place. Just keep it TNN and say "TNN...For Men"
Guest RugbyDiva Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 This goes beyond stupidity! Anglesault is right! He is obviously suffering from lack of publicity, so he had to look for something to put him in the 'headlines'. Oh well! It's his money!
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 It came about in the most stupid-ass possible way, but maybe this will give them some perspective and lead them to the realization that everyone else has already come to - that "Spike TV" is a really shitty name for a network.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Spike TV is such a dumb name. Why not just keep it "TNN" and call it "A Man's Network" or something to that degree?
Guest DokDoyle Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 I wonder how much of the pretaped WWE programming this week will have to be changed, You gotta think that Convelocity had to mention the name change a couple of times. At least Heat is live this week, leading in to the PPV. Which leads into another question, Will Smackdown take over Heat when their PPV's are on that evening?
Guest BifEverchad Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Which leads into another question, Will Smackdown take over Heat when their PPV's are on that evening? Hey, I never thought about that.. Maybe they will, or maybe they'll just run HeAT as a RAW show, as usual?
Guest Choken One Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 It should just be a SPECIAL EDITION of Velocity...Just have Tazz sneak in something like...Smackdown activated the rights for Raw's Heat for one night only for this special extragangta...
B. Brian Brunzell Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Once again, I weep for humanity. Why Spike TV? Why not Testosterone TV, or The Channel with Balls?
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 I also suggested Testosterone TV. Take a look at the Raw Roid Parade--it fits! They need to show the trial... "Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury--THIS...is Chewbacca."
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Spike Lee is an idiot. Spike TV/TNN is getting the kind of publicity that they could never pay for.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 It should just be a SPECIAL EDITION of Velocity...Just have Tazz sneak in something like...Smackdown activated the rights for Raw's Heat for one night only for this special extragangta... Just invert Heat and Velocity for those four weeks a year.
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Dear god.......I STILL CAN'T believe this lawsuit is becoming successful!
Guest TheArchiteck Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 I smell an angle that Teddy Long should jump on....
Guest ftwdevils2469 Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 I smell an angle that Teddy Long should jump on.... If they even menton Spike at all he will slap them with a lawsuit.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Eh I like Spike Lee though, so more of him on TV is good enough for me..... j/k Although I do like his movies.
Guest Retro Rob Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 This lawsuit had not only gotten Spike's name out there again, as even my MOTHER knew what Spike TV was when I brought it up today. This is a woman who watches the local news, the weather channel and sometimes HGTV.
