Most overrated match...

I think that the recent Misawa/Kobashi match was overrated. I would say that it is the best match of the year so far but it didn't live up to the hype imo and their previous outings were easily superior.

Most overrated? I saw 6.8.01 and was impressed on the first showing...but more showings showed me that it was merely a very good match as opposed to an outstanding match...

I concur with 6/8/01. It was pimped to death and voted WON match of the year. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't hand out MOTY awards to matches that are barely ***'s.

I have to agree about 6/8/01. The first time I saw it I was very impressed, now two years later it's nowhere near as good. I don't know if the novelty of Mutoh's (at the time) new moveset has worn off on us or if it's something else.

 

The one aspect of that match that has held up for me anyways, is the psychology surounding Mutoh's use of the moonsault to finish off Tenryu. Since that match, I've seen several matches use that same type of story telling psychology, and that was one of the reasons why I gave the 1/26/03 IWGP Jr Tag Title match the ***** rating

There were a batch of super over-rated matches in 2002. Kawada/Mutoh from February was terrible, Kojima/Tenryu from July sucked, and so did the 60 minutes Nagata/Chono match.

Kobashi/Misawa was nothing on AKIRA/Kanemoto from the same match as far as I'm concerned.

Liger and Minoru Tanaka from the BOSJ final 2001 was shit. The only good move I saw was a Flying Cross Armbreaker.
