Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted June 15, 2003 Led Zeppelin vs. Ozzy Osbourne AC/DC vs. Guns N' Roses Black Sabbath vs. Van Halen Metallica vs. Slayer Metallica/Slayer was wicked hard to choose from. Both pushed the limits of thrash metal in the 80's, with Metallica taking it to a commercial region, and Slayer taking it beyond levels of heaviness and speed once thought impossible. However, Slayer never released St. Anger...and don't have Lars...

Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted June 15, 2003 Led Zeppelin (Besides Blizzard of Oz and No More Tears, I don't really care for Ozzy's solo stuff) AC/DC (AC/DC rocked out with their cock out long before Axl Rose thought of doing so) Black Sabbath (Sabbath started this bitch in my, and many others, opinion) Slayer (tough choice, but Slayer keeps putting out good music)

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Sabbath. Slayer. Oh, I'm full aware that Slayer vs. Metallica is the moment of truth here. This is the one choice. The ONE choice, you all have at redemption and respect. How one could vote against an incredibly heavy talented band like Slayer, who puts out awesome album after awesome album, is completely beyond me. Even Slayer's slower tracks like "Seasons in the Abyss" completely destroys every cheeseball Metallica ballad ever written. With the faster sound, it's Slayer, no contest. I mean, that's not even arguable. Heaviness and crunchy goodness, Slayer again, Metallica wrote stuff like "Mama Said" and "Unforgiven II" in the same time span that Slayer was doing albums like Divine Intervention and God Hates Us All. Slayer continues to do good shit and tour like bastards, while Metallica writes crap albums, and puts together a horrible, terrible, awful tour in the summer that costs an arm or leg. Napster. Jeff Hanneman is more talented than Kirk Hammet. Kerry King is better than James Hetfield. Tom Araya is a much better metal vocalist than James Hetfield. Blood curdling screams and evilness vs. James' flaccid grumbling. (Cliff Butron, however, kills Araya dead on the bass, but Araya is pretty even with Jason Newstead.) Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph are both way better than Lars. This isn't up to debate. This isn't coke or pepsi, ford or chevy, or any of those casual matters of taste. This is fucking SLAYER vs a band where even most of their fans only say half their music is great, let alone everyone else's opinion. On one hand, you have the pinnacle of Thrash, and on the other, you have...St. Anger. Please, listen to reason. Not in this universe, or any other, is Metallica as good as Slayer. Just put "Slayer," and feel better about yourself.

Just put "Slayer," and feel better about yourself. Oh, please. You're constant ranting on Slayer became old after about the 50th time you did it. I'm happy that you're passionate about a band and can derive so much positivity and enjoyment from it, but forcing your beliefs upon others is not only worthless, but irrititating. Rant and rave all you wish, Metallica fans will remain just that - Metallica fans. The same applies towards Slayer fans. While numbers and record sales BY NO MEANS judge the quality of a band, it is safe to say there are far more Metallica fans (check which album is number one in America and Australia at the moment) than there are Slayer fans, which means you're fighting a battle that will only fall on deaf ears. You're opinions are yours and yours alone, however a person cannot be judged on their MUSICAL taste. Get a life. M P.S I am not a Metallica enthusiast, however for all those bitching about the ALBUM (not the single, such as I did) recently released by Met, entitled St. Anger, and would like to view a professional analysis that outlines why it is a good album, please go here
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 16, 2003 You're opinions are yours and yours alone, however a person cannot be judged on their MUSICAL taste They certainly are. However, I can judge people how ever the hell I want. Now, have you got anything constructive to add other than "There's more Metallica fans in the world" or "Hey, that guy likes St. Anger"? Apparently not. Edit: ..and another thing, where are you getting this idea that there's "Slayer fans" and "Metallica fans" like the two are diametrically opposed on this grand scale that you say people cannot be "judged" on, whatever the fuck that means. As a matter of fact, chances are, when a person likes one band, they like the other. I don't happen to, and said why I think Slayer's better, which shockingly enough pertains to the topic. So don't get pissy, chap.
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Led Zeppelin vs. Ozzy Osbourne - even though I'm not a huge fan of theirs, you have to give LED ZEPPELIN the nod here; Sabbath is good, solo Ozzy is not so good. AC/DC vs. Guns N' Roses - AC/DC in a runaway (however, I refuse to acknowledge that AC/DC still puts out albums. In my mind, Bon died so the band put out one last album and then disappeared.) Black Sabbath vs. Van Halen - Sabbath. Not. Even. Close. Metallica vs. Slayer - Slayer. If only Cliff had been one of the ones that lived through that bus crash ... I love when Agent rips apart Metallica... always a lot of good humor in those posts. In fact, I wouldn't mind reading MORE rants about them oh, and another thing... just because an album is number one in the world doesn't mean its a wonderful piece of music... let's review some other groups that have been in the number one: Korn, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Brittney Spears, N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Good CHarlotte, (insert any other throw away pop band)... so yeah, don't try to compare sales chart positions

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Yes you did, which is commendable. There are creatures in this world who lovingly stoke the tender pea-sized balls of VH1, who in their "Best hard rock acts" (which may or may not be the title, either way, it was the topic), ranked Slayer in the low fifties. Number 49..The Smashing Pumpkins. I kid you not.
