TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2003 Well what is it? His best ones(IMO) are: Bowfinger, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, Trading Places and 48 Hours. My favorite is Coming to America, Bowfinger or Trading Place. I would rank Trading Places as his best. Whatchu all think?
Guest two_tuff_toddy Report post Posted June 15, 2003 I'm not a big Eddie Murphy fan. As far as his movies go so I would say the best is Coming To America although Trading Places was good also.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted June 15, 2003 Coming to America and Life, although the second may just be a guilty pleasure.
Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted June 15, 2003 I enjoyed him the most in Life so I'll choose that one
Guest godthedog Report post Posted June 15, 2003 'shrek'. runner-up is 'raw'.
Guest Marshall Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Tough Choice? Most of his movies stink.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I'd have to say Trading Places followed by Coming to America. The Golden Child is a very guilty pleasure, but I don't think it's as bad as it's reputation. The Distinguished Gentlemen was a great premise, but never was able to follow through past a pretty strong first half hour and a brilliant cameo by James Garner. Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Coming to America and I enjoyed Life a lot.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Beverly Hills Cop 1, Coming to America, Dr Doolittle, Nutty Prof, Trading Places, 48 Hours, and that other cop movie with him in SF with a rookie partner. The best on has to be BHC1
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I'd have to give it to Beverly Hills Cop, but Coming to America is right up there too. If we were counting his concert films, they'd be up top as well.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Coming to America had a good cast and is probably the movie that inflated Eddie's ego making him think he could play every possible character in a movie.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Coming to America. The few scenes in the barbershop is probably the UNCREDITED creativity behind "The Barbershop" movie. Coming to America is such a riot. I also personally really enjoyed The Golden Child.
Guest notJames Report post Posted June 16, 2003 The Golden Child "I want the kniiiiiife… pleeease…" 'Nuff said.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted June 16, 2003 The few scenes in the barbershop is probably the UNCREDITED creativity behind "The Barbershop" movie. Um...no. Real life black barbershops are the inspiration for both.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Coming to America is his best. And even though alot of people say that all his movies suck, he has far more good movies than most of the other over celebrated actors in hollywood. It's just that when he does a bad movie, its Pluto Nash/Showtime/Metro/Beverly Hills Cop 3 bad.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Coming to America is one of the best comedies of the 80's...
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I didn't find Metro to be a bad movie. Not as hilarious as most of his films, but I thought it held up well. Coming To America was hysterical, probably my favorite.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I didn't even think Metro was a comedy. I know it was presented as one, but watching it, it seemed like a straight action movie, and as such I found it ok. If it was supposed to be a comedy... I guess it was bad then. Guest Scalded Dog Report post Posted June 16, 2003 The Adventures of Pluto Nash by far. The movie really was great and I'm surprised it did so terrible. The soundtrack is great to but that would go into the music folder LOL.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 16, 2003 Nutty Professor, but Im guessing that was also the downfall of his career, stereotyping him into the family movie star actor. If you count Shrek that would be up there as well.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted June 16, 2003 C2A and.....Holy Man. I'm kidding.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2003 I actually liked Holy Man. *Shrugs* My favorites are BHC 1 and Bowfinger.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Nutty Professor, but Im guessing that was also the downfall of his career, stereotyping him into the family movie star actor. If you count Shrek that would be up there as well. i'd say 'boomerang' started his "downfall," cause that one flopped on its face & he was in nothing but bombs for 3 years after it. he didn't really have another hit until 'the nutty professor', which i think pretty much saved his career. I'd say he still hasn't fulyl recovered from having BHC 3, Metro and Vampire in Brooklyn in consecutive years and all bombing badly.
Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Trading Places kicked much ass and is my favorite Eddie Murphy movie. Since we're all bringing up terrible Eddie Murphy movies as a result of this thread, I gotta say, even when contending with Pluto Nash...Vampire In Brooklyn is still the worst movie of Eddie's career, by far. Good God was that movie AWFUL.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 17, 2003 Nutty Professor 1 was done in '96. Metro wasn't released until 1997. I remember because for my 16th birthday, we rented out the cinema (the movie was "Ransom", btw) and Metro's trailer was shown before it. I don't know if Metro bombed per say, but I think like IDRM said, a lot of people expected something like BHC and got a straight up actioner. I still liked it though, as Murphy is one of my favorite comedians, and I have most of his films.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted June 17, 2003 I don't really have a favorite, as most of his films seem to just mesh together into one huge ass ball of Murphy. If I had to pick one however, I'd say Trading Places and then Bowfinger.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted June 17, 2003 I gotta say Trading Places, as every time it comes on, I must watch it to the end. Bowfinger is my second favorite...his laker girl obsessed paranoid moviestar role was hilarious.
