Ichiro, better than anyone wants to admit?

I can't take anything Peter Gammons says all that seriously because more often than not, he will take a question asked to him about X player and spin it into a shill for the Red Sox.

Ichiro is pure excitement, and really the first player from Japan who has not burned out or hit a bump in his development (Re: Hideo Nomo). I would take him in a heartbeat as my lead off hitter... if he had a touch more power, he would be extremely dangerous as he already can hit the ball to all fields. I liken him to Rickey Henderson, just with less power and maybe a touch more speed, if that's possible. Soriano and his counterpart, Miguel Tejada (if he can ever get out of that horrible slump he's in) represent a changing of the guard at second base, and A-Rod has always been sick... if he remains consistent throughout his career, whatever HR record Bonds set will fall by the beginning of the next decade.

Hm, I'm getting a Baseball Stars team creation jones....

Again, maybe I'm just seeing things, who knows. Hell, I LIKE Soriano as a player. But I agree, he has strong forearms; to the point that he either a. masturbates 30 times a day or b. seems to me like he's on something. Yeah, he IS really thin, but he seems to me like he has a little bit too much muscle on that thin body, y'know?

But no disrespect, of course. He is a very talented player. I just calls 'em like I sees 'em.

Henderson walked 100+ times a year. Ichiro reminds me of a Japanese Tony Gwynn.

I think Soriano's legit, but I'm still weary on him. Guys with such low walk totals don't fare so well. Not a dig on his talent, just past history.

which is even more scary, because Tony Gwynn was a monster are getting on base.. If Ichiro continues to improve, we might only be seeing the tip of the iceberg right now.

Ichiro's done a good job adjusting his style after pitchers had somewhat of a clue how to pitch to him.

Soriano is similar to Kirby Puckett at the plate. Puckett was a free swinger, but he was such a great bad baller hitter that's something I see with Soriano.
