The official 2003 NBA Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

Guest Vern Gagne

Since this is the slowest time for sports talk. Figured, I'd start up the Draft thread a little early. Discuss team needs, stage mock drafts, have at it.

could one of the mods change the title to include 2003 NBA Draft Thread.

Anyone think Lebron will flop or get such a swelled head that his game will never live up to all the hype?

The first 3 picks seem like a lock:

James - Cavs

Darko - Pistons

Carmelo - Nuggets

After that its anyone's guess.

No

But I do think it'll be 2 or 3 seasons before he "breaks out", so he'll get called a flop early.

If James puts out that consistent effort everynight. He can be a Magic Johnson type player. A big guard with PG skills.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Denver trade the pick. Supposedly they aren't too enamored with Carmello. I read somewhere about a possible trade to Chicago for Jay Williams and the #7 pick.

I've also heard Fizer and the #7 to Memphis for Battier and the #13, so who knows.

I think that there is a possibility that James might suck when he plays with the big boys. But he might be like Kobe and breakout later on. I think they need to start him on the bench and then let him get about 15-20 minutes a game.

The Bulls should keep Fizer over Tyson Chandler. Getting Shane Battier will do nothing for them since they already have Jalen and Eddie Robinson.

I don't think Fizer will ever be anything special. He's the classic too big for SF too small for PF. Chandler, however, will be an All-Star within the next 2 years.

Did you SEE Marcus Fizer last year. He was on his way to winning the Sixth man of the year and probably most improved player before the Knee injury. Its like something went off in his head and he became a FORCE.

Fizer has the size and the offensive skills to last long in this league and contribute. Tyson just has the size. Big deal. Will Purdue had size. The only way Tyson makes the All-Star game is if Jermaine O'Neal, Ben Wallace, a blade of grass and 10 to 15 big men move west.

Are we doing a mock draft like the NFL? If we are I'll take the Warriors.

I'm game. I'll take the Wolves.

Damn, I lost my whole other post. I'll make this brief and back it up later:

I would take Bosh if I was Toronto because I believe he will be a better and more versatile player than TJ Ford.

Are Heinrich and Ridnour worth lottery picks, are they gonna be good NBA PG's?

Will Seattle trade up at all since they have two picks in the top 14?

Can someone clue me in on what you guys are talking about?

They were thinking of doing a mock draft of the NBA 2003 draft and then selected what team they wished to represent.

What about that big Russian guy they discovered? I forget his name, but they said he could be in the top five based on his workouts alone.

I think the Clippers are interested in the big Russian kid. I don't know their names, but the Clips worked out the big Russian, another dude who they said was similar to Toni Kukoc, and Chris Kaman.

Toronto needs either a backup guard or a legit center, but I think that Russian guy is a bit too much of a project for a team that wants to get back to the playoffs.

Anyways, Kevin O'Neill is gonna be named head coach of the Raptors today, so let's see if this sheds some light on who they'll take in the draft (I doubt it)...

The Clips are thinking about the Russian guy if they pass on Kandiman in the off-season. If not, they will take TJ Ford to replace Andre Miller.

Either way, I think it’s a lose-lose situation. The big Russian is another project who we don’t need right now. If he develops into a force in this league, it probably won’t occur until his 4th or 5th season, which by then he would become a free agent. Ford is too short for this league and I’m not convinced that he can be successful in the NBA.

The Clips need to win right now! If they resign Brand and Odom, I think they would be better off trading their pick down or trading it all together to avoid paying another guaranteed contract.

Clippers do not want a winning season, there is no profit in it. How they retain a 17,000 fan base to watch a losing team which does not care about winnining is very strange.

The Clips made over $40 million in profits last season and Sterling (gasp) has vowed to use that amount to reinvest in the team and players this off-season.

We’ve all heard this before but Clipper fans can only continue to hope.

BTW, I think Luke Walton could be a pleasant surprise late in the 1st round or in the 2nd round. He understands the game and seems like a hard worker. If guys like Eduardo Najara (sp) can make it, I think Luke’s got a good shot.

I just feel sorry for the season ticket holders who missed out on the Lakers tickets and have to settle for the Clippers.

I hope you enjoy your 20 win season and that is wishful thinking.

I'm about to make the call now, the Big Russian will pay off alot sooner than anyone guesses. He is 7'4" 300 lbs, 18 years old and a freakin athlete. He isn't a big stiff. He doesn't have a great game with his back to the basket, but he does understand that, Hey, I'm 7'4...maybe I should dunk this since noone will be able to get up here with me. He is big, he is strong, he is athletic. He will be drafted Number 4 by the raptors...He will pay off.

BTW, I want to say this about the Clippers...

I saw alot of thier games this year and noticed something. They would be taking thier usual ass kicking with only Brand, Maggetee and Miller looking like they are actually trying and then get sat down in the 4th quarter. Wang "I'm a chinese Dirk if any one would give me run" Zhi Zhi and Marko Jaric would come in and put them back into the game...well cut a good 12 points off of the lost.

Wang has great touch, hustles on the Defensive board...why could this guy get no PT on a losing team. marko Jaric is a great ball handler, passer and finisher...a streak shooter true, but a good all around player. Why in the hell were they so buried on the bench?

There’s nothing to feel bad about. I was a Clipper season ticket holder because I had high hopes for the team. I wouldn’t ever consider going to a Lakers home game unless I get paid to watch that crap.
