Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 23, 2003 As a Manchester United fan, I've obviously seen quite a bit of Beckham and I am not that sorry to see him go. His ability has been questioned here, and I haveto agree. He cannot dribble, does not have a great burst of speed, can't head, can't tackle, and when he does the things he is praised so highly for (long passing and free-kicks) he gives the ball away at least 50% of the time. Maybe United will use the money to buy a proper right winger who won't keep drifting to the centre.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2003 Maybe, but how much of that was him, and how much of it was the media? Well seeing as the media ripped him to shreds, I'd give the credit to Beckham. Granted he's grown up, but he's still got that petulant side. Like whenever he chases the ball all over the pitch when England are losing, like he's the only person who can make a difference. Probably because 9/10 he is the only player who can make a difference for England. And since when did determination become a bad attribute? Sorry, I don't like Beckham. No need to apologise, I used to hate him, but he has won me over, The tabloids turned on a six-pence with Beckham. Granted, after the Argentina match, he could do no right for a while, and its to his credit that he got through that. But to the same extent, he can do no wrong now. It's very rare you hear criticism of Beckham now, even if he's out of form. Theres a difference between determination, and following the ball around the field giving away free kicks and getting out of position. And he's not the only person who can make a difference. I would rate Scholes, BUTT and Gerrard (when on form) as being more complete midfielders than Beckham. I don't have any real problem with Beckham as a footballer, and I have to admit he can place a ball better than anyone else in England right now. But he is grossley over-rated, and as a celebrity he bugs me intensely. Also, I'm surprised Man U didn't try to get McManaman as part of the deal...
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 24, 2003 Pffft McManaman?! As an ex-Liverpool player and scouser, he would get a less than warm reception from the Old Trafford crowd! Granted, he can dribble, but whenever I've seen him (admittedly I haven't seen him regularly since he went to Spain) he dribbles down the wing, gets lost and gives away a goal kick. rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2003 Good point. Also, for those who care, Real are not renewing their managers contract, despite winning the league. One of the front runners for the post is Man Utds asssistant manager. Also, Hierro is retiring. (credit bbc.co.uk)
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted June 24, 2003 I saw that too. It was a bit of a surprise, but not a major shock seeing as Spanish club presidents don't seem to like managers hanging around no matter how successful they are. Also, it seems the Hierro bashers may have been right to criticise, as he is admitting himself that he is past it.
Guest George Dawes Report post Posted June 24, 2003 David Beckham for England is a totally different David Beckham for Manchester United. The man has an extra ordinary talent for football, people say oh he can't do this and he can't do that, but how many players do you know who can do everything, there is a handful but they are quoted by many ex pros, for example Patrick Viera, the man can tackle, pass, shoot, pacey, strong, determined etc etc I think Beckham will do well for Real, the game is not as aggressive as English football and that will suit Mr Beckham. Guest HellSpawn Report post Posted June 28, 2003 1st. I can agreed about calling Real Madrid a super team, but... still they BARELY beat Real Sociedad (Not sure if this was the #2 team) to win the spanish league. 2nd. Im a Barcelona fan, so... REAL MADRID SUCKS. 3rd. I like Barca but I still can appreciate great players like Zidane and Beckhman. Figo is and forever will be a SELL-OUT. 4th. I hope Beckhman, aka Spice Boy, get a spot in the team. I really like this guy. Now about Hierro and "Mustache Man" Del Bosque, that was stupid, at least the trainer, Hierro is slower than Kevin Nash. Sadly, my team in Mexico, CRUZ AZUL (thumbs up, cheap pop)...*gasp* almost got Hierro, thanx god it was too expensive.
