Recommended Posts

Guest Lil Naitch

Well, Scarface is playing on TNN right now, and thankfully it isn't to censored. I forgot how good this movie is.

So is it uncut or not? The title says it is, but then your post contradicted that.

I find it extremely hard to beleive that it would ever be on regular cable uncut.

...I've never seen Goodfellas.

Did he say pussy?

"How do you get a scar like that eating pussy?"

My FAVORITE edit has him say...

"How do you get a scar like that eating pineapple?"

Never... *cough*... never seen..... Goodfellas?! What the hell is the matter with you? Go and buy it. Now. Don't even think about it because you are just going to do it.

Now get your ass to the store. Pronto.

GoodFellas is a far better film then Scarface. Scarface has more style, but it hasn't aged very well, while GoodFellas is still just as amazing as the first time I saw it.

Alright...alright.

This may sound like a silly reason and I know that I'm being an anal petty retard, but I can't bring myself to watch Goodfellas knowing that there's a special edition coming out on DVD soon. I'll get that and watch it then, but anything else would just lessen the experience for me.

I hope this doesn't start a pissing match of "my movie is better than your movie" but how has Scarface not aged well? I'm still as much of a fan now as I was when I first saw it.

If anything, for me Goodfellas has lust some of its luster, but that's because my flatmate used to quote the movie ad nauseum and it's made me not want to watch it lately.

well, there's the cheesy 80s music. derek & the dominoes and the rolling stones have aged a little better than that.

WHAT??? 'goodfellas' OOZES style! you get sweeping, virtuoso steadicam shots of going inside the copa and going inside the meat truck, you get freeze frames and slow motion out the ass, and you get lorraine brocco and joe pesci pointing guns straight at the camera! how can you see lorraine brocco point a gun right at you and not think "holy shit, that's so awesome"?

fuck, i'm watching this movie again.

EDIT: i timed the steadicam shot in the copacobana, and it's exactly 3 minutes long. THAT is style.

Music in the 80's WAS cheesy for the most part.

The fact that the Scarface soundtrack is Flashback Radio in GTA 3 almost makes it cool again.

I disagree with the music causing it to not age well ... yes, the music is kind of laughable now, it helps define the era that it represents. (e.g. movies in the 70s are filled with disco; mid-80s movies have lots of new wave sounding synth crap.) Whether the music still stands the test of time shouldn't effect the movie per se.

You won't WATCH Goodfellas because of it not having a SE DVD yet? That's some retarded reasoning you have there boss man.

It's a movie made within the last ten years, so it's not going to look that much better on the SE DVD. Not to mentiion the fact that the bare bones even has 5.1. It's not like the bare bones has a grainy picture and mono or stereo sound. The SE will just add extras, so it's insane to not watch the movie because of waiting for the SE.

I refuse to rent VHS or watch it on TV, because it'll be edited as fuck.

The DVD that's out now is a flipper, from what I hear...and I'm not big on renting anyway. I know I'm going to buy it, so I'll just wait til it the SE comes out.

Scarface hasn't aged well in the same way the Tim Burton "Batman" hasn't aged well. Essentially, the film is all style and very little substance. There are elements of Shakespearean tragedy, and some social commentary, but neither were ground-breaking when they were made. Not to mention the fact that it killed Al Pacino as an actor.

I'm with Dames. There are SEVERAL movies I've never seen, Goodfellas included, that I'm waiting on a worthwhile DVD to watch.

Yes you shouldn't buy it, but the current bare bones DVD is good enough for watching the movie. Lack of extras doesn't make a movie unwatchable.

The picture and sound may be slightly better since the current disc was an original title when DVD was an infant. Other than that, there's no reason to not watch the movie based on lack of extras.

Hell if you don't want to pay the rental fee and you live in a city with a good library get the DVD from it for free.

no it won't. there's plenty of widescreen VHS copies floating around at blockbusters and hollywoods. i'm one of the biggest scorsese fans on the board, and i'm perfectly happy with my own widescreen VHS copy.
