Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Remember when we started that thread asking what we'd do or how we'd react if someone here died? Wellsir, almost happened to me tonight. Hit a wall on a bridge going 120 (the police were told 80 at the most, and it was downhill at the time, so the whole calculation thing is thrown off) while racing some douche in an Elantra. Not worth it in retrospect, but how I survived is beyond me. I hit a weird bump while changing lanes to (finally) pass him since I started from a dead stop. We'd planned that I'd take off after him from a dead stop on the side of the road. Anyways, I hit the weird bump, the back end of the car went out on me, I almost swerved into him, pulled away, and into the wall I went. So anyways, yeah, I got the car of my dreams, and it's gone in three days. My fault really in the end, but whatever. Bring on the "you were an idiot for racing" posts. How you got out without being hurt, is beyond me. That is right, you weren't hurt at all?

Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Good thing you're still alive. Couple questions, what kind of car were you driving? How messed up is the car? And what kind of ticket did you get for this?

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted June 18, 2003 The car is virtually totalled as far as insurance companies would be concerned. The cost of repairs (pretty much a new front bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, power steering pump, radiator) would be about $8,000 total, with most of that being in the body work. The heat of the friction at the impact was so great that the parts of bumper left had melted and pieces of concrete were in the bumper after cooling. The tickets: Four total, three of which are the fault of the dealership. No bill of sale (never gave us a copy, despite asking for it), no tages (hadn't gotten the plate yet), and no insurance proof (dealer is supposed to inform the company to give a new card for the new card until a new policy can be taken out). The fourth (and only $217) was Carless Driving, which is pretty much a concession that they had no idea how fast I was going. They said I slid 100 yards, but I went back to the site later (the police refused to let me see the impact point) and saw that it was only half of that, so I wasn't going as fast as I think I was. Besides, the spinning and sliding was made worse because it was downhill. Anyone who says Fords aren't safe can eat my dick. If it is deemed totalled and I get a new one, I can't say I'll learn my lesson. I see it as simply a temporary setback. HBK16 and the other car freaks around here understand what I mean. Fortunately, I didn't have the car long enough to mourn the loss of it specifically, rather the yanking-away of what I thought was a sure thing again. Maybe the next car will last a week before a tree falls on it or something.
Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Oh man that sucks. I know how long it took for you to actually get a car and its gone now. That sucks a lot. When I had my Civic, I raced all the damn time. Never got in a wreck or any tickets for racing. Thank God. But I have seen a couple of street racing accidents myself, one which included a death, so I dont do that anymore....As much. Hope you get a new car soon. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Maybe the next car will last a week before a tree falls on it or something. Yes, you sure did seem to fall victim to a bizzare twist of fate that was entirely beyond your control. but hey, at least you weren't drunk! That would be like 4 more tickets. A friend of mine got plastered and then plasted his pickup all over a concrete barrier at like 70. He's not dead either, but he will forever be known as "Dumbass". Guest HBK16 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Atleast your not hurt. People have crashed going 45 and died. Consider yourself lucky. Very, very lucky. And be thankful that you had a safe ride.
Guest welshjerichomark Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Holy shit. You have some bad luck. Actually scrub that, you're VERY lucky for not getting yourself badly hurt. Glad you're okay man.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted June 18, 2003 "If it is deemed totalled and I get a new one, I can't say I'll learn my lesson." I'm glad you're OK and all, but if you pull this stunt again and end up killing a bystander I am going to wish this first accident would have taken your life... Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Everyone should thank Kotz for driving up their car insurance rates! Thank you Kotz!
Guest DrTom Report post Posted June 18, 2003 If it is deemed totalled and I get a new one, I can't say I'll learn my lesson. Yes, because almost becoming a smear on the highway isn't a strong enough hint to SLOW THE FUCK DOWN and STOP RACING. It's your life and your car, of course, so do what you will. I just think you'll be a complete fucking idiot if you get another care just to race it and do the same thing. No one died this time. Consider that lucky, learn the lesson, and move on. Next time, maybe there will be an innocent bystander in the way when you skid out of control at 100 mph. Then you're a killer in addition to a fucking retard. Kotz, the difference between a fool and a wise man is that the fool's mistakes never teach him anything. Don't be a fool.

Guest subliminal_animal Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Then you're a killer in addition to a fucking retard. Then go get 'em, killer. And I would totally get behind the encouragement in that statement if street racing wasn't so spectacularly moronic.
Guest DawnBTVS Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Maybe the next car will last a week before a tree falls on it or something. Ironically, that's what killed my dad's 1st car. We had a thunderstorm and in the morning we went out to find a tree lying on his crushed car, not a pretty site(This was like 12-13 years ago though). Oh yeah....you're a DUMBASS for nearly killing yourself to prove you can go faster from a deadstop then a jackass who started before you.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Well, damn. As someone who's heard about the struggle to find the perfect "Kotz Car" for a while now, I'm sad to see it go in such a fashion. Happy you're still with us though, because if something happened most of us would be at a loss. And seriously, who feels like breaking down and crying during Kylie Minogue songs (which is exactly what would happen if our beloved Spoon was taken from us). All kidding aside, glad you're OK buddy. Nevermind the car, at least you and any others were spared injury (or worse).
