Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I admit it. It wasn't good. But you still can't fault Benoit in any way. The fault lies on the heel for the match (Rhyno) because he only has about 4 moves and has to rely on the chinlock to take up 10 minutes (or at least it seemed that way). They would have been better served to give the match 8 minutes. Jason
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Rhyno has more than 4 moves. Of course he didn't use them, but, well. Just saying.
Guest mickberna Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I liked that match just fine. I admit that Rhyno's "heel" mannerisms were pretty awful, but I don't see what was so bad about the match itself.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Rhyno needs Heyman more then Benoit needs charisma...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 20, 2003 The crowd was totally into Benoit's headbut (everyone rose to their feet) - the problem is that they didn't prolong the Benoit comeback sequence and didn't capitalize on the momentum the headbut gave them. They could have gotten some sweet 2.9999's in that match before setting up the crossface finish. I wouldn't call it a "bad" match, and the "go spurs go" and "boring" chants were in the first 3 minutes, hardly something you can blame the two wrestlers on. Besides, setting the match up with a promo, then not clearly establishing the heel and face role (though Rhyno tried), and putting it under the "US title tournament" just confuses the crowd. Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted June 20, 2003 The match wasn't bad, but I could have done without Rhyno showing us a 10 minute chinlock display.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 20, 2003 The match was good. My quick survey saw 4/4 people give it a thumbs up which is 100% correct 20 times out of 20. Anyway, Rhyno just needs some more experience IMO.He certainly tries. Remember how much Kurt improved in the span of a year. He seemed lost at 2 spots at the end of the match. (after he missed the spear and I think he oversold the forearm blow at the end)

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I missed the beginning...what I saw before the match ended with chinlockery ahoy...I usually watch a Benoit match like a hawk, but this one wasn't very exciting.

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 20, 2003 The stupid commercial break ruined the match for me, IMO. It wasn't a bad match by any stretch, but the commercial break just killed the whole thing. There's no excuse for a commercial break in the MIDDLE OF A MATCH. Especially not on a taped show. Sadly, I think when they do take the breaks they probably clip out a part of the match. Which pisses me off less in this match than it does in the Kurt/Haas match.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Sadly, I think when they do take the breaks they probably clip out a part of the match. For what it's worth, I saw the thing in it's entirely and all you missed was 45 embarassing seconds or so of Rhyno trying to express personality to the crowd while Benoit sat in the ring and the ref counted. Tazz teaches Cole what to call a move or two until they get back in and then, ridiculously, Cole claims they've been fighting through the whole commercial break. During the Angle/Haas commercial, you missed about 10 seconds of whipping into corners while Tazz told Cole to sell the arm injury instead of the neck injury. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 They just need Rhyno snarling about how he's gonna tear someone's (bleep)ing head off and (bleep) down their necks, piledrive women through tables, and goring random people. In other words, the Captain CAAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAN Rhyno in ECW. Just with WWE Rhyno moveset.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I didn't like that match. First of all Rhyno is a limited worker. Second of all........Benoit just isn't trying anymore. Can you blame him though? I mean I'm surprised Jericho and RVD haven't given up yet.
Guest Super Leather Report post Posted June 20, 2003 They just need Rhyno snarling about how he's gonna tear someone's (bleep)ing head off and (bleep) down their necks, piledrive women through tables, and goring random people. I have a match on tape where Joel Gertner comes out and starts talking nonsense on the stick before Rhino comes out with Steve Corino and Jack Victory and gores the fat man into the mat before kicking the crap out of him. He stalks around the ring yelling "Gimme that fucking microphone!" before calling out Rob Van Dam to get his fucking ass out there. This would be the house show in Zuma Beach, Florida in which RVD breaks his leg doing a mere baseball slide early on in the match, but manages to continue. That was actually the first time I saw Rhino and I was pretty impressed. He's tiny now compared to then, which sort of takes away from the "Rhino" moniker, in my opinion. This is my first post, by the way. Hello.
Guest Nater Report post Posted June 20, 2003 He's not smaller, everybody else is just bigger.. no joke. The match did lag at points, and this commercial break in the middle of the match fucking kills the match instead of adding to suspense, which I can only assume they are trying to do. Guest Goodear Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Dude that thing stunk and both guys should be taking the hit for it. Benoit tossing out the headbutt then after being in a neck hold for a ridulous ammount of time is just simply lazy spot wrestling. Billy Freaking Gunn did a better job of selling last night. BILLY GUNN! I can buy into just about any matwork guys want to do as long as it matters for the next couple of moments at least but that doesn't happen in Benoit matches anymore. Instead he's stuck in chinlocks all the time now and then makes a rally that wipes it all away, and I have to think that at least part of that is his call. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Count me among those that was very disappointed in the match ... and also among those that can't help but laugh at the "it's not Benoit's fault, it's Rhyno's" or "blame the fans, not the wrestlers" posts. If it's all Rhyno's fault, then Benoit should have led the less-experienced wrestler to a better match. He could have (or should have) carried him to a better match. If it's not the wrestlers or the match's fault, then why weren't there chants in every match? In my eyes, the Guerrero/O'Haire match was better than the Benoit/Rhyno match (the Guerrero match was better even with the shenanigans of Piper, who's just annoying at this point.) Guest humongous2002 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 That match sucked ass, i was just waiting for Austin to come out and start the BORING chant. Rhyno sucked back in ECW and he still sucks now.

Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I thought it was a good match. Hey they let them have more than 3-4 minutes in the ring which is rare in today's WWe. Does every match have to have a "Holy sh*T" highspot or a major bump in it?? It was a great old-school wrestling match and I enjoyed it!! Of course I watch WWe for wrestling and not for a stupid 2nd rate backstage skits with a McMahon.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 20, 2003 They obvioiusly weren't prepared to have the time they did. I probably was suppose to be another match that got cut...but the way they were performing compared to what we have seen both guys do in terms of pacing, I think that they were given short notice on something...either the match or the time they had. That would explain chinlock-o-rama. Blaming Rhyno alone is absolutlely as ridiciolous. He has proven to be a good wrestler. Anytime you see time consuming chinlocks it is probably there to consume time. Wacky but true. And Rhyno has lost a LOT of weight since coming to the WWE. He was much wider in ECW...he never was tall, he was just wide as all shit.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 So, I guess this is the new slower, mat-based WWE style that JR is always going on about... Like I said before, Benoit just needs to get out of his WWE contract and work for MLW or ROH so he most likely won't have disaster matches like these most of the time. I'm not sure whose fault it is though for Benoit doing a Diving Headbutt after getting his neck worked over by his opponent, but I also noticed it in one of his matches with Cena, and if Benoit's responsible for it, then he should stop doing it in neck-work matches soon or he'll be called "RVD 2" from now on. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Goodear, what's wrong with Benoit using the headbutt after having the neck worked on? The thing is, Benoit always used the headbutt even though it hurts him. He doesn't care-that's his mentality. He wants to win the match so he's not going to care if his neck has been worked on before doing it. If Benoit didn't do the headbutt that would be against his charactor. Billy Gunn was not selling better than Benoit last night. End of story. As for making a rally after being caught in the chinlocks-Every WWE match has the face coming back after being beaten down by the heel. That's been the formula since forever! Two other things:When you're the heel you control the match more. Faces don't have as much control over a match when they're wrestling. This match would work a lot better if the heel/face scenario was reversed. For anyone who thought this match sucked what are you watching for? This was a legit good match. It wasn't great but it was certainly enjoyable. All of you guys just seem to take any opportunity you can get to diss someone even when it's not justifiable. Does it make you feel important or something? Maybe you guys should just pick up bowling. Hey, it's fun.

Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Blaming Rhyno alone is absolutlely as ridiciolous. He has proven to be a good wrestler. Anytime you see time consuming chinlocks it is probably there to consume time. Wacky but true. Rhyno has never proven to me that he's a good wrestler. He's very good in HARDCORE matches, but I've not seen him in a regular wrestling match ever break out and become a "good" wrestler. For example, King of the Ring 2001 against Edge was dreadfully boring. Same with tonight's chinlock-o-rama against Benoit, of all people. Jason
Guest JericholicEdgeHead Report post Posted June 20, 2003 After reading alot of the opinions about this match in this thread I must say I am a little shocked. Was it a 4 star match....NO Did it suck..........NO Just because neither of them went through a table and neither took a huge bump doesn't mean it sucked. Hey they could have only given the match 2 minutes, and to me that would have sucked. If we got more matches like the Benoit vs. Rhyno I would be alot happier with the product. Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 Just because neither of them went through a table and neither took a huge bump doesn't mean it sucked. We like good wrestling, not table bumps. Last night's match had pointless matwork and chinlocks from Rhyno, which went nowhere, along with Benoit using the Diving Headbutt after Rhyno worked over the neck later on in the match. Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I liked the match. It wasn't the greatest, and it was a little slow, but it was still good. The three chinlocks in a row were kind of weird, but other than that, it was a fine match.
