Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.......

Guest The Mighty Damaramu

Ok I just watched TMNT I&II recently. Never again will I watch the accursed third Turtles movie.

Now the first one was great IMHO. It had a dark element to it while keeping a cartoonish kid's element to it as well. Nothing was to goofy and nothing was to serious. They'd seemed to find the happy medium. It made for a very engrossing film with some cool action scenes(i mean who doesn't remember Ralph getting his ass kicked on the roof?)

Now the second one, while good was a little bit more cartoony. I mean it didn't seem to have the serious edge that the first one had at all. It went for the much sought after "kid money". I mean it was alright but just not as great in it's story telling as the first one. Oh and the Vanilla Ice scene is unforgiveable.

What are your thoughts on the Ninja Turtle movies? Yes you can even speak of the third movie.

Hell let's talk about the cartoon series as well! What'd you think of it?

I thought it was a great kid's show filled with memorable episodes. Super Bebop and Rocksteady being my personal fav.

And do you think that the movies and cartoon series deviated to far from Eastman and Laird's vision?

I have never read Eastman and Laird's original series(if you know where i can pick it up that'd be great though) but I have read the IMAGE comic storyline and it was much much more serious. But I don't know if all of it was that way.

Never say the movies - there are movies!!! - but the tv show captivated me for a good few years. I still have all the old cards and the all still smell of bubble-gum. I can't remember a God damn thing about, but it was better than Pokemon.

In the movie, Splinter was always a rat and he learnt to fight when he was STILL a normal rat by watching Kung-Fu movies from his cage. That is lame. The explanation in the cartoon made perfect sense.

The cartoon is still awesome, I downloaded a few episodes.

OMG!! I know every friggin line in every one of those damn Ninja Turtle movies!! My son only wanted to watch the Ninja Turtles.... not the animated, but always one of them damn movies! I found the set of three when going through some old things at my parents house. My little brother was a bit TMNT fan back in the day. I popped one in for Ryan thinking it would keep him busy for a little while. Little did I know it would lead to TMNT insanity!

The only redeeming thing about the second one for me is Kevin Nash as Super Shredder. Nash falls over and must have torn his quad.

::Looks at avatar::

Yeah Nash kicks ass!

The third turtle film is a joke.

Just out of curiosity, why was Casey Jones written out of TMNT2, yet brough back for number 3? Anyone?

That is the way Eastman & Laird wrote Splinter's origin in the comic. As I remember, the Shredder was a different guy, but the origin of both Splinter and the Turtles is basically dead-on in the first movie.

I loved the first movie as a kid, but I have not seen the others. (There are 2 sequels, right?)

I don't want to ruin my feelings for that first movie by watching what is sure to be those godawful sequels -- the turtles travel in time in one of them, right?...

In TMNT3, they go back in time to Japan during Europe's Renaissance (best way I can put it, thanks to the clothes worn by the few honkeys that are around {and there's a reason they're around, mind you}) thanks to the power of a magic sceptre. Decent flick on its own, but nowhere near the quality of the first two.

Do yourself a favor and see TMNT2. Again, not as good as the first one, but still a very good, very fun movie.

Marshall: THEY'RE MUTATED TURTLES THAT EAT PIZZA AND KNOW NINJITSU. HOW REALISTIC DO YOU WANT IT?!

Personally, I like the new FOX cartoon better than the old one. It's a LOT more mature, and the animation has more of a dark tone to it. Also, not every scene is the guys kicking ass and making bad jokes. Raphael is an uber-prick, Casey Jones is a wise-ass and TAKES OFF HIS HOCKEY MASK, April isn't a reporter that doesn't know how to change her clothes, and Splinter makes enough wise-ass comments about the guys to make me happy.

I loved the first one, it was a little more adult then the others. And 2 was at least funny at parts. But there was nothing remotly entertaining about 3.

I haven't managed to catch the new cartoon, but I love the older one. Hell, I downloaded all the episodes off kazaa just so I could relive them again.

As for the movies, the first one was the best and I enjoyed the second one. The less said about the third one, the better. I saw that piece of shit once and decided "never again!"

I remember when the 2nd one came out, they said they intentionally made it more cartoony because parents raised such an uproar over the violent nature of the first one. It's still an ok movie, not the best, but you can watch it and not want to chuck the remote thru the TV.

There's a part in the 2nd one that me and my friends would laugh about (We was young!). Anywho Splinter's out on the roof, and somebody says "Splinter what are you doing out there" (I think that's what they said) and Splinter responds back with

"Coming.......

<5 minutes pass>

...To a decision"

Why that cracked us up I dunno, but we would laugh.

"Coming...to a decision" is funny because he's saying "coming." Get it? It sounds like "cumming." GET IT~?!~

Loved the first movie...hated the other two.

Loved the cartoon.

Loved the comic...basically I loved the turtles.

The last Turtle comic I read was when Raphaels face was all messed up and he was wearing one of Casey Jones mask, and Donaltello had been kidnapped, escaped and started fighting on of the captures and the slamed out the door of the room...except what Donny didn't know is that they were on a helicoptor. He hits the ground and is paralized...and I never got to know what happened next. But the part of the comic when they were both falling out of the air and the other guy gets shot in the head...great stuff.

Ripper that is from the IMAGE series.

Donatello's body is basically taken over by a cyber organism that healed him.

I agree that the new cartoon is better than the original. Looking back on the original, it doesn't hold up very well despite me liking it back then.

I haven't seen any the new series, anyone know if it's on the UK. I'm guessing it'd be on Fox Kids.

Is it a continued storyline, I mean would I have to start at episode 1, 2, 3...ETC...?

Yeah, if I woke up in the morning, I'd check out the cartoon more. And it is better than the original. The fighting animation is so much better, plus the jokes are much more witty.

As for the movies, the original is my favorite, as I just find the other two passable. It's a good movie, not only for the fighting, but for the kid who wears the same damned Sid Vicious shirt the entire way through. My favorite had to be when all four of them were taking runs at Shredder on the wet rooftop. The scene was so dark, and it had so much emotion in it, that I actually got chills. If a movie has one chill moment, it's a success, I say.

It would be on whatever channel shows Fox cartoons.

And it's a continued story, but still has side stories. Its a continued story that you can pick up on quickly without starting at the beginning. There's alot of multi part episodes as well. I'm sure it'll be on DVD soon enough.

You know...you could tape the episodes. That's the only way I'm able to watch the show every week.

Yes and no. A few episodes are just there, but almost all of them tie into past episodes in some way. I think it'd be best to start at the first episode, because that's when they introduce each character, and begin the countdown to SHREDDER...

I used to LOVE TMNT. The second movie got a little weird for me... I guess it pissed me off that the whole TCRI storyline was used but was changed to TGRI. I really wanted to see the Fugitoid!

Also, I think Eastman and Laird were pretty involved in all the versions of TMNT. If you go to Ninjaturtles.com they have stuff up from all the different versions, which lead me to believe they had some say in what went on.

I loved (and still do) the original TMNT cartoon. I'm not ready to say that the new toon is better than the original, but it is more faithful to the comic.

I remmber liking the first movie.

As for the original cartoon the starting song was extreamly catchy. If I remember right the first few episodes were pretty good but after that it all turned downhill.

The games on the NES were great fun. In fact I was playing TMNT II the other day.

Is it true that Casey Jones and April had a sex scene in TNMT 1?

From what I remember, he gave her a backrub while she was in the kitchen, kind of hinting that they did it.

It was a kids movie though, no blatent sex :P
