Guest Powerplay Report post Posted June 20, 2003 The camera slowly fades in to a blackened room, a single circle of light illuminating a lonely locker room bench. On the bench sits a hunched figured, a towel around his neck as he looks to have finished a grueling workout. With his features shadowed by the light, it’s hard to instantly recognize who the man is. The camera shifts a little, and soon one can pick out his well cropped gray hair and his trimmed beard. “25 years of work…” The screen switches to a montage of shots from William Hearford’s early career, flipping through them like a book while slowly advancing through the years. Many show him in poses of victory, shaking hands with fans, and taking down jobbers. “Destroyed in an instant…” A flash engulfs the screen, and as it quickly fades away we are left with a shot of Hearford, about the same age as he is now, kneeling on a ring mat, his head hung low in defeat. “My accomplishments… my labors… my legacy… gone.” The picture slowly turns into a photonegative as he speaks before coming back to the original spotlight shot. “The only thing I ever wanted was to be remembered not as the biggest…” A clip of Frost and LDP teaming together against Hearford in the 6 Man Tag, tossing him around like a rag-doll. “The flashiest…” The clip switches to one of Wild and Dangerous executing a Shooting Star Press/Corkscrew Legdrop combo on the Judge back in the first JL Five Wounds Match… “Or the toughest…” A final clip shows Danny Williams and Dace Night utterly brutalizing Hearford during the tag match with Tom Flesher. “But only as…” Cut to a shot of Hearford taking Johnny Dangerous off a ladder with a Surprise Witness. Cut to a shot of Ejiro Fasaki hitting Frost with a baseball bat. Cut to a shot of him hitting LDP in the face with a chain before piledriving him into the canvas. Cut to a shot of Danny Williams being Gavel Banged. Cut to a shot of Taylor Nicolas Thompson being hit with the Rule of Law. “The best.” The screen soon changes to one full of pinfalls, and each time the ref counts three for J&R. “Now I have a second chance.” The shot shifts to one of Justice and Rule holding up the tag belts in triumph. “And I won’t let it slip past.” Hearford blasts Dace Night with a lariat. “I won’t waste it.” The Judge locks a Figure Four on LDP. “I won’t fail this late in the game.” Justice hits a German Suplex on Johnny Dangerous. “Because it is too important for us.” We go back to the spotlight shot, and Hearford stands up off the bench, showing his cold eyes and his stone-faced visage. “I am Justice. And Sunday, when we walk out as legends, it will be…” The shot fades out into darkness, and soon white-outlined letters begin to appear. “Our finest hour.” 13th Hour
