Women's Wrestling

Recommended Posts

As we know, the women's division is pretty much a joke nowadays. Even there is talent in it (Victoria, Molly, Ivory), the T & A who have no talent get all the attention, I'm insulted by that.

Now, if it were something like G.L.O.W. or W.O.W.E. (which I used to watch a lot), hell yeah I'd watch it. Not only would we have gimmicks again, but at least it would easier to get into. I know the general audience would more interested in watching a women's only federation. Don't you agree?

I don't think that women's wrestling would be too sucesful by itself, but the women's division on RAW is very good. It's the first time I have been really interested in their matches as opposed to just ogling the women involved. Victoria, Jazz, Molly, Ivory, and even Trish are all doing a great job, and their matches are continually my favorite part of RAW.

I think that they're leaps and bounds ahead of where they have been in the past, if not just a few years ago. As they continue to bring more girls in that can hold their own, things will improve. It's not even a matter of getting rid of what holds them back like King's commentary and degridating matches, if the talent is there, it will be recognized. It's just going to take some time, and probably some men willing to put the women over in evenhanded matches. But I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.

Personally I don't think the men letting the women get a win over them will help the Women's Division at all.

Once the women start winning over the men then they've grown too big for the Women's Division. No fan would think any of the women have a chance over a woman who can beat the men.

It happened to Chyna. She goes off and becomes IC Champ and beats men then when they put her in the women's division and make her champ there's no credible competitors to her as women's champ.

The problem with the women's division on RAW is not having proper storylines which carry the angle. Think about it, "Molly's ass is fat", "I'm prettier than you"?

Then again... I'd rather that than some of the storylines the creative team give the men.

Oh, I know the men will never put the women over like that. It's not dissing the men, it's just the way things are. I just think that, as a chick wanting to one day be in the ring, I'd want to be treated as an equal. Not as a Woman, but just as a Wrestler. But I still hold that if more exceptional talent is brought in it'll help things. And they do need better story lines, as Korgath says. Women DO NOT (or not any that I've ever met) insult other women about their weight. Not to their faces anyway. A little realism would be nice.

It was never alive in the first place. It only started as a carnival sideshow-like attraction as a change of pace from the men anyway. In japan, phenomenal female athletes refined it to an art form, but in the states..hoo boy. It's still a girly carnie sideshow, and will never draw a dime. The workers aren't there, the stories aren't there, the fan interest isn't there, and the promoters aren't willing to invest the herculean efforts it would take to get women's wrestling over. Just look at the elephant graveyard of failed womens' feds. Even in Japan, Joshi never consistently drew huge numbers, at least not to my knowledge of the stuff, which is admittedly somewhat limited.

In America, unless you get the ladies to actually look at other styles, you're gonna get nothing.

In Japan, the woman's wrestlers are sometimes better than the men's...

Dandy and Dynamite are on it.

WWE will continue to push their women as sex objects and nothing more. Their division is treated like a joke, which is sad because you get a woman like Trish who works her ass off to look passable as a pro wrestler and her entire division is treated like trash.

And yes, for those of you who don't know, some of the women in Japan could work circles around THE BEST that WWE has to offer and that is not a joke.

The women's division has a decent mix of women and just as many wrestlers in the division as Smackdown has cruiserweights, but only about three women that anyone really cares about. Ivory is forever a Mom in my eyes after her Tough Enough roles and it's hard to get enthusiastic for her matches. Jacky needed to go along time ago and at the risk of pulling the race card, I think the only reason she is still around is so WWE can say "Look, we do employ minorities!". Sad but true. Jazz, Victoria, Trish and now Gail Kim can wrestle like mad, but there is only so many times the same few women can face off before it gets real old. I love Molly, it's good to see her with more involvement and once Lita comes back, hopefully the division will take off.

I think the person who more people should be pointing a finger at for the horrible status of the division is Jerry Lawler. He doesnt treat them like the athletes that they are at all, instead babbling week in and week out about their puppies. When Gail Kim had her face buried in Victoria's crotch on Raw, I would have traded my entire puro collection to trade places with the rookie too, but Lawler needs to start selling the moves and stop acting like a hornly old man or else the division will never get any respect.

The fans, sadly, generally don't buy the women as real wrestlers. Even though there has been a real surge of talent the last few years, most of them are jackoffs who are just waiting for the next table match. That's generalizing, yes, but I get pissed watching the crowd refuse to acknowledge the leaps womens' wrestling has taken and sit there silent and apathetic, unless someone performs a vaguely erotic manuever. Along with Jerry Lawler's stale commentary, I blame the fans for being closed-minded.

...What leaps? I don't have any respect for american women's wrestling because THEY CAN'T WRESTLE. Everything is sloppy, has no build, and no one's over unless they're either hot, or a freak of nature. It's just women trying to do moves. I think the best american womens match I've ever seen was...oh wait, I can't pick because they're all bland crapfests, that's right.

It isn't dead, but women's wrestling sure is on life support, surviving only because of the aforementioned good wrestlers like Victoria, Molly, Ivory and even Trish at times. However, my main issue with it at the moment is that the T&A girls that are good for nothing else barely ever show anything. If you're going to have a useless bitch getting paid, at least have her flash her ass every now and then!

Anyway, I can tolerate the women on Raw these days, which is a step up from the pure hatred I had for it a while back. I don't mind Gail Kim either. Overhyped, sure, but still not bad to watch. I'm looking forward to her first singles match this week.

When I think about it, has there ever been a time when women's wrestling in the US has been any better? It's stronger than when it was Alundra Blayze and her challenger of the year. Maybe when Wendi Richter was around.

Eh, its not the fact that its dead but the fact the writers arent doing it right. If they started getting better storylines for the women besides Trish fueding with Jazz every RAW. Its so repetitive its not even funny anymore. I say to them, either get it right or say goodnight.

I think the quantity and quality of US women's wrestlers overall is better than ever. Sure, there have been a few throughout the years, but never one division as good as the current WWE one, not by a long shot. Better writing wouldn't hurt at the moment, but what can't you say that about? And it isn't as terrible as other areas either.
