I would put all of the above. Since I can't pick all of the above, it's fucking Vince.

Bret Hart told vince that he would forfeit the belt the next day on Raw. That's all vine had to do and none of this would've happened.

Forfeiting a title on your way out is not tradition. It's BS

I think it was a combo of Bret and Vince. They both made stupid choices and mistakes.

Shawn gets a lot of flak, and frankly, I think it's unwarrented. Sure he knew, but he was an employee doing his job. What, is he going to tell Vince he won't do it when Vince is his boss? I don't think so.

It was Bret's fault for not doing what his boss asked him to do.

Shawn wanted to retire as champion and not job to Austin. How does that make him any better? It doesn't.

Personally, I don't think it was Vince. it was a surely poor made decision by him to do what he had to, but really, if you where in his place, would you do any differently? I'm a Hitman fan, but even I agree he did himself in.

Heck, let's take a page out of EWR 4.0. You've got someone coming to the end of their contract that is too big for you to resign and will likely leave the company at the very end of your last month. He's also carrying your World title as well.

Now say you have a viable contender for the title, but well below the Champs status. What do you do? Do you let your Champion retain his title and leave as Champion, but hurting your Contender's credibility to beat that person? Or would you let the Champion lose his title and bring some neccessary heat and cred to that Contender; even if you, the promoter, have to get involved to do so?

I'm sorry, but even, I would choose for the second choice in a heartbeat. I think it's low balling too, but geezus, when it's business, sometimes you have to low ball to stay afloat. Sad but true. It doesn't make it any better of a decision, but sometimes, the alternatives don't really look much better in the end.

And yes, EWR 4.0 isn't a good choice for stuff like this, but you get what I mean though.

I think the title was even more devalued by the way it was won. I feel Vince greatly overreacted. Of course, it isn't the first time he's overreacted over a title. Remember Wendi Richter? Anyway, it's not like Bret hasn't gotten revenge for the screw-job. He gave McMahon a concussion and Michaels had his back seriously injured later.

You know... I want to know why people think Bret screwed Bret.

I really want to know a good reason.

The reason why is because people think that what he did would be bad for business. How would it look if Bret would've beaten Shawn(The WWF's biggest name at the time besides Bret) and then went to WCW? Also Bret should've done the tradition and job the title to Shawn. But then again Shawn shouldn't have bitched out and job to Bret at WMXIII.

As much as it was Vince's fault it was also Bret's fault in the whole sitiuation.

Bret should have jobbed in Montreal even though it was hometown crowd, because it's the wrestling tradition to go out on your back. Even though I like Bret Heart and all he screwed himself, with the decision of him not wanting to go out on his back. But Vince also screwed Bret by leying to him saying he could leave with his head hel high. Vince should have made Bret realize, how him beating Shawn, would make the company look bad.

Bret said how he couldn't loose in front of his fans because it would make him look bad, but I don't think him loosing in Montreal would have made him look bad, because everybody knows that it's just wrestling its not like he let the fans down by loosing, the fans would have steel appreciated him win, loose, or draw. Bret just made the situation, of him loosing in front of his crowd, a little to big. Even though I don't like Shawn, just because he was involved with the screw job, before he left you didn't see him complaining about loosing to Austin and getting knocked out after the match by Mike Tyson in the biggest pay per view of wretling which is WretleMania.

Even though Earl Hebner didn't have anythin to do with the screw job(he was just doing his job) I still chanted "You Screwed Bret" when WWE came to Mobile a couple of month's ago, and after the show I got in a big argument with about the screw job, and I cursed him out for screwing Bret Heart, and he really got mad  .
