MOTHERFUCKING ACID BATH!!! My god this is kicking my ass from here to next week. Listened to a few cuts off of Paegan.... and Kite String and Dax Riggs is just ruling it.

I invite all fans of this band to kick me in the nuts for missing these guys for the whole time I've been a metalhead.

Dying felt so goddamn good today....best line I've heard in a long time. I love it and Dax OWNS ME!!!

I've never seen Titanic... I know it's the music folder, but that's the best I could do.

Yeah, Acid Bath is good.

Acid Bath is a nifty band.

And, um, I've never heard a David Bowie song all the way through.

...godthedog, your opinion on heavy music is now NULL AND VOID to me...why?

No, not because you've never listened to a full Ramones album (because they fucking sucked).

No, not because you've never heard a Slayer song.

And no, not because you've never heard a Husker Du tune.

YOU SPELLED MEGADETH'S NAME WRONG, ASSHOLE!!!!

Yeah, Acid Bath fucking owns it. I thank you, Agent, for introducing us.

look again, i didn't misspell it.

unless i misspelled by not putting it in bold with all capital letters.

but that shouldn't raise the value of my opinion of any heavy music, cause i haven't even heard enough of it to form any opinions.

but i will say that once they evolved out of that long, wandering crap they did on their early albums, metallica became the best metal band from the black album on.

I agreed with godthedog up until the Metallica thing. Yes, they sucked before the Black Album, but they continued sucking afterwards.

But yeah, I was kind of hoping for someone decent with topic header. Like I just discovered Martika recently. It'd be nice if there was more love for that kind of stuff on this board.

Now you're just trying to pick a fight...

Acid Bath has never made a bad song. Literally every single thing I've ever heard them do is awesome.

Dax Riggs is one of my favorite singers/vocalists ever.

Thumbtack, have you ever heard how he wrote the lyrics for Paegan Terrorism Tactics?

what's with all the pre-black album hate? don't tell me some of you fuckers actually enjoy listening to "kill myself/kill you" lyrics over tired, empty, "we'll play really fast so that we sound like badasses to try to cover up the fact that we have nothing to say" riffs for 8 minutes at a time.

You have never listened to ...And Justice For All, Master Of Puppets, Kill E'm All, or Ride The Lightning. If you had, you wouldn't make such a sweeping statement.

Go study your subject. After you do, THEN talk about them "Playing really fast so that we sound like badasses to cover up the fact that we have nothing to say" spiced with "kill myself/kill you" lyrics.

This statement can only work for basically two songs:

"Seek & Destroy" (which isn't even that fast, and is only about 6 minutes long) and "Whiplash" (which is about moshing). Wow, both from their first album. Look at that.

That statement is FILLED with ignorance. At least Agent's hate of Metallica can be understood, because he's into the more "brutal" forms of metal. Go listen to "Orion," "Blackened," and "Fade To Black." Then tell me if you want to rethink your statement.

Oh god. I am amused that someone would say Metallica only started getting good with the black album (which a lot of people look to as the band's commercial highpoint, but the beginning of an artistic slide).

I will admit that stuff like And Justice For All is long and hard to grasp, but a good CD.

I enjoyed the few Acid Bath songs that I have heard. They're pretty cool, I must say.

Now, mr. godthedog, was it your intention to sound pompous with your laste Metallica statement, or did it just kind of happen? I mean, like Corey said, your statement only really applies to two song, possibly "Damage, Inc." as well, so three songs total are like that.

The Metallica statements don't apply because they weren't fast enough to cover up the fact they had nothing to say...

...but I don't want to sully an ACID BATH thread with Metallica bitching. So someone start yetanothermetallicathread, or else reply in another one, because this thread isn't getting hijacked by the fag four.

NOW, onto the acid bath story. I got this from their website, or a recognized fan site, which if I find it, I'll link it, but until then, here's what I remember from it..

Dax was in Florida on vacation or fuckin' around or something, and ran into a couple hippy lookin' people who offered him something to trip on. Dax was all "Fuck yeah," and they gave him a hit of some sort of liquid called "Angel Trumpets" they were keeping in an antifreeze bottle, and BAM, he blacks out.

He woke up on the beach a couple days later, SURROUNDED by pieces of paper with lyrics on them, in his handwriting. He pretty much doesn't remember writing a word of it.

That's fucking awesome.

Oh, and i took it upon myself to listen to both albums. My god, that is some awesome fucking shit. I had heard of Acid Bath before, but not more than two songs ("Cassie Eats Cockroaches" & "Cheap Vodka"), and I sorta pegged them as a death metal band. But those albums are SOOOO much more than death metal.

They're not death metal at ALL. Plenty of ugly screams, but nary a growl to be heard. That band was so fucking sinister and weird that it really needs to be heard to be believed.

That's not to say they're lacking in heaviness, though. "Cheap Vodka" "Jezebel" and "Dr. Seuss is Dead" are three of the sickest fucking things on earth. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can listen to "Dr. Seuss is Dead" before a fight, and they will win. It has the slowest, angriest build of any song I've ever heard.

Goddamn, I downloaded about half of each cd now, but I don't want to get anymore. Definitely a band I'm gonna sink some cash into. That story about Dax' lyrics is incredibly appropriate considering what I make out of some of them.

Agent, I'd be much appreciative if you could give me a bit of info. Are there any other bands that Dax performed/performs in? I've heard one track of Agents Of Oblivion(yes I need that one aswell). Any others I should check out? Being NOLA based, he probably has about 327 different groups he works with...

Well, here's everything I know about Acid Bath.

They hooked up playing sinister shit in the early 90's or really late 80's, put out When the Kite String Pops in 94, did Paegan Terrorism Tactics soon after, as well as some live cuts that are nigh-impossible to locate in between there. Bassist Audie Petrie was killed by a drunk driver in 97, and the band split.

Sammy Pierre Duet formed Goatwhore, which you already know and love, playing good american black metal. (which apparently makes them one of two good american black metal bands)

Dax and guitarist Mike Sanchez started Agents of Oblivion, which is good enough to make me steal it for a screen name. Take "Scream of the Butterfly," and make a band out of it, essentially. Really good dark depressing mellow stuff.

He had another band after Agents split up, called Elephant Boy and the somethings..can't remeber exactly. Or maybe it was somebody and the Elephant children. Either way, I've never heard it or seen it anywhere.

Both of Acid Bath's full-length releases are absolutely worth the price to get them, and then some.

They're one of those bands where I hear something new every single time I listen to them, and they just get better and better. Talk about underrated bands, these guys put out two of the three best metal albums of the 90's, along with Slayer's Divine Intervention, in my opinion. They're THAT fuckin' good.

Also, I've just seen bits and pieces hinting at them hooking up with another bass player, and releasing more material, but take this about as seriously as a Van Halen reunion at this point..

Yep.

And better than Paegan.. overall, as well.

I don't know how it happened, but PTT ended up more focused than Kite String, even though they were on WAY more drugs. It lost a hair of diversity, which gives Kite String the edge in my book, although it's really a pick 'em.

These guys also have a DVD out, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

I'm in your debt AoO. Thanks for the legwork/info. Luck, and a nice discount on a new guitar, providing, I will be picking those two up next week. Along with a pre order of 'Funeral Dirge For The Rotting Sun'. Mad swamp metal radio reigns supreme in my speakers again.

Thanks again man.

That entire scene down there is killer, you've got the Acid Bath "Family", then there's Crowbar (which Sammy was a part of), and members of Crowbar were in Down, who also featured members of Corrosion of Conformity and Eyehategod..it's fucking nuts how many of those bands are connected.
