Why didn't they save Kane's unmasking for PPV?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

NOTE: Mini-article more like it, lol. This will be the ONLY topic that I'm going to start on this subject for anytime soon. Now, with that out of the way...

...why didn't they save the unmasking of Kane for a PPV? I understand that the chances of HHH doing so at Summerslam were basicly 0%. I don't see why they couldn't have done it at the first RAW only PPV however. Sure, they had the HITC with Nash, but wouldn't it have played out so much better had Kane been in Nash's posistion?

I know I don't speak for anyone but myself, but to me, Kane's unmasking is a HUGE deal, not just for Glen Jacobs and his overall career, but for one of the longest running storylines in WWE in years. In my humble opinion, this should have been a major climax to the HHH/Kane feud, it should've been build up over more than just ONE WEEK. I mean, think about this. When was the last time that HHH/Kane even had any contact with one another in any sort of major way before two weeks ago?

Simply put, it should've been a focal point of WWE, not a side note with only one weeks buildup.

I looked at this event as more than just Kane unmasking. I looked at it as a long time part of WWE passing away, opening the door to a new sort of era, whatever that era may turn out to be.

I just don't understand why they'd have HHH/Kane feud for all that time last year, then just totally drop it, then go months without even having any contact really, and then just tossing them in there together again for no real reason with just one weeks buildup.

Eh, I dunno. I just thought that the unmasking deserved a big stage (yes, bigger than a RAW at MSG), it should've been at a PPV. I could think of no better setting than against HHH in the HITC. I mean, think about it. The HITC is where Kane was "born", and it would've been fitting for his character to be put to rest in that very match.

Either way, I'm still in a wait and see mode in terms of what happens to him now. I think that as long as they play their cards right, he could become a huge player, even larger than he ever was as Kane. I have no doubt that he can fill the roll of such a huge star, my only worry is what dirrection they lead him in.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Honestly, who gives a crap enough to pay to see HHH win again and to see that lousy unmasking job they did?

Who wants to see Kane pushed for two months, just to job to HHH again?

It drew big ratings for Raw, but I doubt it would draw PPV buys. Of course, maybe I'm wrong...

Yeah, I agree. I know I'd rather see Kane on ppv than Nash.

I am kinda sad about it. I always liked the Kane character.

They should've saved Kane's unmasking as well as the Lesnar/Big Show Ring stunt for ppv.

WWE is just losing it in regards to running a promotion based on MAKING FUCKIN MONEY !!Instead they bood to MASSAGE FUCKIN EGOS!!

I don't want to see HHH/Kane in a feud over a dead, make believe girlfriend. I would have loved to see an instense feud between the two for another reason however, leading to a huge climax where he is unamasked, it could have just been huge.

Besides, after all of these years and they wast this event on just a random RAW (sure it's in MSG, but what does that matter to fans at home who watch every week). I just don't see how they could just throw away this like they did.

It's almost like they just ran out of ideas, and just tossed it out there to get it over with so they could just move on.

Yes, which is obviously what happened.

By the way, I'm all for having major things happen on WWE TV now that each brand only has a PPV every other month. I just hope they pick their spots, use it to build for the PPV payoff event, build from RAW to RAW, etc...

Kane's unmasking was still too big for a RAW in my eyes though.

I too agree that the unmasking should have been done on a PPV because it is a pretty damn big event in the company's storylines since Kane has had the gimmick for so long and because he was such a prominent character.

Because if I have to watch another multi-PPV Kane main event push, I'm going to stab myself with a staple remover.

Kane wasn't anywhere NEAR over enough to justify this going on as long as it did.

Either way, I'm still in a wait and see mode in terms of what happens to him now. I think that as long as they play their cards right, he could become a huge player, even larger than he ever was as Kane.

Lucky us.

Why should they have bothered with a Kane main event push? Has Kane been getting really over and I missed it, and HHH had to kill that dead? Or did they just need to find an opponent for HHH to beat just so they can say he defended his title?

I personally think Kane should have LONG AGO turned on RVD and went heel.

He's strong willed. To his credit, no matter how many times Vince McMahon and Co. shit on him, he stays optimistic.

I love my Pro. Wrestling, even when it's rotten. :D

Pro Wrestling on a national level in the U.S. is dead. Long live "sports entertainment."

I'll post this to get it out of the way for the flood that's sure to come.

"Kane sucks, blah blah blah.."

"Push Benoit instead, blah blah blah.."

He's not as over as he was, but then again..he had the HHH effect and necrophilia..

Was Kane insanely over? No......but, he was much more over than Kevin Nash.....are you friggin people saying that you'd rather see Kevin Nash vs. HHH in a PPV main event than a HHH vs. Kane in a title vs. mask match in a ppv. And dont come with the "Neither, i'd rather see Jericho or RVD or Booker T in the main event" bullshit. It's either one or the other

My only problem with it is that it shouldn't have been in a match with HHH. Being the one to beat Kane for his mask could have made someones career - or at least have people stand up and take notice. Rodney Mack could have gotten a lot of heat off that esp. mixed in with the racial overtones. Then Goldberg squashing him could have meant something :)

but, Rodney Mack sucks donkey balls. The guys moveset is worse than just about anyone else's in WWE. Why waste a huge thing like unmasking on his sorry ass?

Well....see, a shot at the World Title was the only thing that would make Kane risk putting something as sacred to him as his mask on the line. ...Obviously...

That's another problem - why does Kane even want to be champion?

LC - you missed the point.

Well, as I said before, any televised WWF(E) event at MSG is basicly a PPV, official or not. MSG is one of the few places where WWE still sells out, regards of how it's performing.

They have to come in big, or they risk alienating one of their last great "fallback" arenas.

I don't think the point as to do so much with pushing Kane as it does with getting back ratings, and trying (very, very desperately) to have something to get people to sit and watch. Right now, they could take the unmasked Kane into some pretty interesting and complex angles, but as it is now, they'll either have Kane run away because he was humiliated or just make him come back as someone else, totally wasting any potential that the whole situation has. I don't see the connection that Triple H needed there, but then again, if he's not involved then he's not happy, so there really was no choice but to get him involved with Kane again solely for the sake of putting emphasis on the unmasking angle. (Hell, they got me to wait a week and tune in again...)

Big things like this should happen on TV. Tons of huge stuff should happen on TV. Angle developments like this are perfect for big Raws. On PPVS all I want are 20 minute matches. That's all that needs to happen there.
