Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Heaney translated Beowulf? Huh. I thought The Spirit Level was pretty good; I'll have to take a look at that translation. It's quite good. I've glimpsed at a few other translations, and I like his best. From what I understand, you lose a biiiit of the original soundplay, but I love his interpretations. It's very smooth, and definitely the most readable one I've seen. I believe he published it in 1999 or 2000, and it's already made it into the Norton Anthology as the preferred version. Best Beowulf, however, is the "tekno-future" film adaption starring Christopher Lambert. Just...wow.
Guest subliminal_animal Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 what did banky do that was so wrong? p.s, I can't be bothered to change out of gimmick. bite my shiny daffodil ass Trolling, and generally being a cock. Don't you get a warning first, though?
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Well, considering that there's a link to all the rules right at the top of the page, bolded, Dames TOLD everyone they were there, and I think Dames said he actually e-mailed Banky at one point - He had enough warning.
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 LMAO! Banky got banned. It's about time.
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 He should have gotten banned for complete lack of life. Anyone who has about eight message board names and starts topics just to get a reaction out of others needs some fresh air. I feel sorry for Banky.
