Guest Lord of The Curry Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 The WWE, no doubt in all their wisdom, is eventually going to turn Gowan heel on Mr. America which will destroy every ounce of sympathy they've built up for him. WWE Logic: The fans are cheering him now as a face which means he'll get a bigger reaction as a heel so let's do an unesscessary turn with him in a shitty angle. See Benoit, Chris for examples.
Guest INXS Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Gowen is just like the Vince/Trish storyline. Gowen gets made to look like shit every week and then when Vince gets bored with the storyline he'll let Gowen get the "big" pay off. Then he won't be used for anything good for months and Vince will continue on... and on..... and .......on.
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 This is not a bad way of going about things, but I think even marks are suspicious about this method because WWE uses it too often to disguise guys who can't work well, or at all. Look at who they've had avoid wrestling so it will be "special" when they finally get in the ring: Steiner. Goldberg. Nash. The marks might be thinking Gowan sucks because of these precedents. If I were them, I'd get him in the ring sooner rather than later. You forgot Sean O'Haire and Nathan Jones. Still, Zack is little and those guys are big. They probably figure that most of the time little guys are better workers than big ones. And Zack's probably a better worker than most of those guys even with one leg. That's more like Russo logic, but I wouldn't put it past them doing it in this case. I already have my Russo sense tingling, thinking if Gowan is siding with Mr. America this whole time and keeps getting screwed out of the contract, he'll turn out Mr. America and set him up so he can finally get one.
LooseCannon25 Posted June 27, 2003 Author Report Posted June 27, 2003 I don't understnad why everyone always shits on Sean 'O Haire......can someone explain to me what makes the guy so bad in all of your eyes?
Guest OnlyMe Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I don't understnad why everyone always shits on Sean 'O Haire......can someone explain to me what makes the guy so bad in all of your eyes? He hasn't had a good match since his return. Admittedly he's had some pretty shit people to work with, but he hasn't done anything at all to make me want to see him again.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I dont see Chris Benoit getting half page stories on the USA TODAY...Gowan is. I don't see the WWE pushing him for stories in USA Today either. Zach is an Human interest story like no other... "Guy gets hired cause he's a freak" ? The fact his apperence shot ratings up 2 full points in some markets indicate people are intrigued by this story... I don't put much stock in that. It's the best POSTITIVE publiticy WWE gotten since well...ever. "WWE hires Freak" Aside from the Sable/McMahon foolishness.. Which is the central angle. WWE has actually done GOOD for once... This angle has gone on far too long and too much time has been dedicated to these NON-wrestlers. WWE title what? I can see _why_ they are doing it, and the novelty and "story" of a one-legged wrestler _could_ be good and do good, but they are putting too much of an investment in it and it's turning out to be just-another-mcmahon-storyline. No house shows, no PPV match, nothing that won't be forgotten about once it's directly over. And of course, the storyline doesn't make sense _at all_ given that Steph as able to sign Mr America yet can't sign Zach? Zach doesn't have a contract, yet he is on TV all the time? So far the only reason I can see as to why they signed him is exactly the same reason I said when they did sign him - so someone could say "he's a one-legged m an in an ass kicking contest." Building up this kid as a GREAT story not just in wrestling but for Mainstream America.. How? How is this built up as a great story? Is it all those sight gags like Piper ripping off his leg? Or Vince kicking his leg out? Or Vince dancing around with the cane? Insteading of BLOWING the intrigue in the first shot...They made people go "Whoa...Can this kid wrestle?" so you build up all this Hype... Into a match with the Big Show. Gowen's Character is much more beautiful and amazing then ANYTHING Benoit ever did. Yes, because Zach's dedication throughout the year is really starting to pay-off, while Benoit just coasted through those 15 years on the backs of others. But hey, don't let your ignorance get in the way of bashing Benoit just-to-bash-Benoit. There is not emotional attachment to Chris Benot whatsoever... That's because any time an emotion can be attatched to Benoit, they bury him. At least with Zach Gowan...His story makes the Mainstream care enough to pop large ratings... Yeah, lookitthose rating skyrocket! Face it...Gowan is a good thing for WWE Ok, but dedicating a significant amount of the TV time to him and the McMahons _is not_.
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I don't understnad why everyone always shits on Sean 'O Haire......can someone explain to me what makes the guy so bad in all of your eyes? After being thoroughly hossified in OVW, he's doing the boring shitty hoss offense, has a lame finisher, hasn't worked a decent match (not all his fault), can't work the mic or pull off the admittedly cool gimmick they built up for him. He has nothing going for him but "look." And "look" means exactly jack shit to me and most of us on the board.
Guest Dangerous A Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I'll just say that Vince and Co. better smarten up with the use of Zacky boy. He is a one legged wrestler and if he works too much, that leg and his hip are gonna be shot after about a month or so of working. I don't see Zack working too many house shows because of this and that sucks because now they have Vince, Sable, Steph, Mr. America, and now Zack who are pushed as the top performers on SD and none of them work house shows. How great is it that Angle, Lesnar, and even Big Show are now midcard.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I don't understnad why everyone always shits on Sean 'O Haire......can someone explain to me what makes the guy so bad in all of your eyes? He hasn't had a good match since his return. Admittedly he's had some pretty shit people to work with He had Benoit and Eddy. He brought them down to his level.
Guest RollingSambos Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 And yeah, what's with the random Chris Benoit hate? Choken, you're obviously just trying to stir shit up. Not all of us smarks love Benoit. Doesn't mean we are trying to stir shit up...it's just the flip side of the coin, something some of you around here need to learn how to live with.
Guest CanadianChick Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 It was kind of weird the way Benoit was randomly brought into discussion seeing as the thread is about Zach Gowen, but no need to dwell. I don't like how this angle is getting so much TV time, but the way the core is getting played out (IE not Vince/Sable and Steph being whored out at 17) is fine. The suspence for next week is great, and the interest in Zach wrestling is pretty high now.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 You don't have to love Benoit, but there should be respect for him. There was no respect in that.
Guest INXS Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I don't understnad why everyone always shits on Sean 'O Haire......can someone explain to me what makes the guy so bad in all of your eyes? Two words.... Benoit jobbed.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Ohaire hate was going on well before that. The Avg. McMahon/Gowan/America segments per show is 5 or 6. That's about 4 too many.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Didn't McMahon handle him like a rag doll at the end of SD? Gowan didn't even fight back. And he wants to be a wrestler? Oh, and Choken, I won't be holding my breath seeing Zack on Dateline or 20/20. The mainstream has NOT been kind to WWE for a long while.
Guest Redhawk Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 I think that this was inteded to be a midcard angle, but since Vince McMahon is incapable of being in anything but a main event angle, it has morphed into the central point of the show. And as far as next week's match, you all should know damn well that it won't be an actual match. I predict Mr. America hitting Show with a chair right away (you think Hogan would job clean and not get payback?), than Zack doing a moonsault or springboard something to get Show down and get a fluke pin.
Lil' Bitch Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Its basically a continuation of the Hogan (in disguise) / McMahon feud with Zack thrown in the middle. From what I've been told, this kid can wrestle and it is impressive to see him do it as he only has one leg. It also gets major heat for Vince as it shows he beats up handicapped people. Its just so...wrong.
LooseCannon25 Posted June 28, 2003 Author Report Posted June 28, 2003 When the owner, and the GM, and as much time is out into this angle as there has been, i would say this was never intended to be a midcard angle. Godforbid Benoit and Rhyno have a WRESTLING match in MSG instead of this fuckin garbage.
Guest Redhawk Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 When the owner, and the GM, and as much time is out into this angle as there has been, i would say this was never intended to be a midcard angle. Godforbid Benoit and Rhyno have a WRESTLING match in MSG instead of this fuckin garbage. I remember when Hogan first came back as Mr. America, everyone on here said, "This is mildly entertaining as long as it stays as a midcard angle" or something to that effect. Since then, it's become the show's top storyline.
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Didn't McMahon handle him like a rag doll at the end of SD? Gowan didn't even fight back. And he wants to be a wrestler? Oh, and Choken, I won't be holding my breath seeing Zack on Dateline or 20/20. The mainstream has NOT been kind to WWE for a long while. As I said above--it looks like he's a wuss who'd be better off not getting a contract. VINCE MCMAHON handed him his ass. Sure, it's because he's an egomaniac putting himself over a wrestler YET AGAIN, but that's still how it came off. God forbid they show that he sneak attacked him and Gowan still seems woozy and half-conscious. Gotta make Vince look good. And yes, Vince completely lost the attention of the mainstream media--at least positively, since he wussed out on the Billy and Chuck wedding.
ChrisMWaters Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 I just had an idea of where this could lead... After some impressive stuff from Zack...when he's shunted down the card again... Think about what other cruiserweight level wrestler fought to get himself a contract with WWE.. Can you say...future Tag Team? Spanky and Z?
