The original idea to bring the US Title back to Smackdown was for Chris Benoit to get the belt. But similar to the original IC Title plan to give the belt to Booker T, WWE might instead give the title to Billy Gunn. Gunn is a favorite of Vince McMahon, and is said to be given another shot. Gunn is set to feud with Matt Hardy, and it seems like they will meet in the finals of the tournament.

 

Nathan Jones is said to be close to being cut by WWE. The two factors stopping it are that Vince McMahon loves his size, and Jim Ross wants to save face by salvaging someone he pushed very hard to be signed.
