Trent Acid...

Recommended Posts

Guest dvkorn

i think this would be the right folder...

I haven't come into this folder often but have started to come more regularly recently. So, sorry if this has been posted before.

This is mainly to CZW fans or fans of Acid.

Now, on another board, i visit often (The Sell, in my sig), on the older version of this board there was much debate about Trent Acid.

I did a review of CZW Ultraviolent Freedom of Expression and basically said in the review that i didn't see what the big deal was with Acid, he's just another decent wrestler on the indy's nothing too special. And thats my opinion on him..! And some CZW fans disagree and there was quite a large discussion on it.

I haven't seen a huge amount of Acid except some shows from RoH and CZW but from people who have seen more of him than me what do you guys think of him??

Also, it may have soured me on him that he uses the Midnight Express music when i don't think he deserves it from what i have seen...

Anyway, what do you guys think...?

HA! Something I finally beat my buddies Sandman and Jay too...

Anyhow, as someone who only recently started his full fledged CZW fandom, I have to say that Trent Acid (actually both Backseat Boyz) are probably my favorite part of the company. Acid's matches are incredibly fun to watch, because between his mannerisms and his workrate, you can't help but get into it. He's got the cocky sneer down pat, is the perfect flamboyant heel, and busts his ass in that ring every time. At BOTB 3, he drew more than one "Oh Shit!" from me, most notably the spot I've grown to love, where he Yakuza Kicks Sonjay Dutt in the back of the head, then does it the normal way as a stunned Sonjay turns around.

I'm not calling myself an expert (yet), but I have to disagree with anyone who dislikes Trent Acid. Oh, and the Midnight Express music is GOLD. Better than using some trendy rap/pop/nu-metal.

Trent Acid is godly. He has improved so much, and if you need proof, go watch his match with Homicide from Then and Now. Trent holds his own in there with the veteran.

Damn right. An uber-stiff veteran at that!

I'd also like to point out that the HI-V stable is pure genius.

I'd put him down as one of the reasons to watch CZW. I think he's got a charisma and look that makes him pull off the cocky heel character very well. I'm also a fan of his sweet ass tag team double moves with Kashmere.

Agreed. Hell the majority of the tapes I've grabbed from work are party due to my Backseats fandom.

Are you guys big CZW fans??

I'm not saying every CZW fan does this but i find that CZW fans cannot say a bad word about anything CZW. Because the CZW fans i have encountered even give the likes of Ruckus and Chris Cash praise

Honestly, I *just* started getting heavily into it, so I'm new to the scene.

I (luckily) work for Wrestling Superstore, and I've had access to CZW videos all along, but have not really checked them out until I watched some out of curiosity, and then was schooled on angles/matches, etc. by our resident CZW-heads, ShooterJay and Sandman9000.

My Acid fandom grew on it's own, maybe because I'm a mark for flamboyant, cocky ass characters.

Ruckus I don't mind, but his whole schtick is "big black dude who can move". He's a decent spot style worker, but I don't know if he's capable of 30 minute classics.

Cash seems like an OK midcard guy, but my only standout memory of him is when Jay Briscoe ran in at BOTB3 and laid him out with the Cutthroat Suplex, a move I now adore.

Chris Cash is decent. He's new, so give him time to get seasoned in the CZW ring.

I don't like Ruckus at all. I find nothing appealing about him other than he can do a a Standing Phoenix splash.

Other people in CZW I dislike: Hurricane Kid, Derek Frazier, Rockin' Rebel, and I don't really like the Rachies all that much. Promos, fine, but in the ring they're nothing special.

Rebel's just an ECW washout. I don't remember him ever being anything great.

Adam Flash seems OK, but I haven't seen Rose in action yet. I figured they'd be a decent team. On BOTB3 they made a big deal about Danny Rose returning in the Battle Royal, so I'm also going off that. I'll have to pop some of their tag work in.

"Chris? It's John from CZW."

"You mean THE ICON?"

I will admit, the match against Homicide at Then & Now was quite awesome. I really hope they pull something like that out at ROH. However, the rest of the other time, he's fricking Larry Zbyszko, Jr.; as in he stalls like it's going out of style. Plus, he's booked like God in CZW (as in he never loses, usually needs tons of outside interference to take him out, etc.).

I'm not the biggest fan of the BSB, just because their matches, at least from what I've seen, turn out into complicated, convuluted spotfests. I give them credit for being the only guys in that company, it seemed, to let Wildside guys look competitive during the feud (match vs. T-N-T at UFOE), but then again, that's like giving monkeypox credit for being less deadly than the plague.

Cash has been with the company for over a year. He's nowhere near new.

Since when is a little over a year not considered 'new'? With CZW only running once or twice a month (unlike the WWE which runs far more than that), I'd definitely consider Cash a new commodity.

When Acid is on (vs. Homicide, vs. Ruckus @ Live Again), he's capable of putting on great matches.

When Acid is off (BOTB2), he drops to just average.

His main strength is in his mannerisms, before and during the match. He does a great job of getting the crowd riled up against him, and I enjoyed him dressing up like a gangsta before the Homicide match (though I got an even bigger kick out of B-Boy's C-Walk, for whatever reason). His ring work is solid, but isn't going to make anyone forget about AmDrag or Doug Williams.

I'd consider him on the B level of indy stars, below the elite level of guys like Daniels, Low-Ki, AmDrag, Homicide, Punk, etc...

He debuted on September 8, 2001, so he's been around for about a year and a half. I don't consider him new anymore. Maybe at the beginning of 2003, but not anymore.

I don't think Punk is on the A level of the indys. I do think Styles, is, though.

Acid being on the second tier is debateable, though. I don't really know if he's on the same level as Xavier, Scoot Andrews, Spanky (when he was in the indys), Cabana, Collyer, etc....He isn't really a singles star, like those guys.

Why is it that Barber has the knowledge of nearly every little miniscule fact on a company he despises?

I consider Punk and Styles on the top tier of indys. Punk TPI's cemented him there for me, and everything he has done since then has only helped. His ROH work and feud with Raven is drawing praise, it appears that he is going to become a regular on TNA, and everywhere I look, there is nothing but praise for Punk, and with good reason. Like Homicide, he's one of those incredibly versitile wrestlers , as Punk can wrestle, fly, talk, garbage wrestle, bump, etc...

With Acid, it's again a matter of whether or not he's on. If he's on, he's B level, no question. If he's off, he drops down significantly. I think if Acid concentrated on singles instead of bouncing between singles and tag wrestling and could be on for a consistent amount of time, he could be considered B level by all.

Yeah, the main awesome thing with Trent Acid are his mannerisms and how he carries himself in the ring- and as Zack said, how can you not mark out from someone who weighs in at 9 inches and is from South Philly, Japan?

While I like him as a singles wrestler, I LOVE the Backseat Boyz as a team, because I've never seen a team in such total perfect sync with each other, and they have literally about a dozen kickass doubleteam moves.

I've been watching CZW since around summer of 2001 (I really got into it around the time of COD3), and I can seriously say Acid is probably my favorite guy in CZW. As already stated, when he's on he's fucking amazing. Like everyone he has on and off nights, but I generally find joy in his matches. As far as the stalling, it does piss me off sometimes, but that's part of his heel schtick. The guy has, perhaps, the most charisma of any wrestler on the Indys. He and Kashmere are also one of my favorite tag teams in the world. I am truely suprised TNA hasn't picked up the Backseat Boyz in matches other than dark or meaningless lower card matches.

As far as CZW fans not being able to hate on CZW, that's bullshit. There are plenty of things about CZW that piss me off (like basically any fed). However, CZW is still my favorite fed because they have the most well rounded and fan friendly shows in the Indys (that is my opinion).

My problems:

Some angles are half assed.

The reliance on spotty wrestling in some matches.

Some of the lower card wrestlers that really shouldn't be on the shows.

Making other feds look weak (Wildside).

The "shoots."

For a jr heavyweight Acid's the best mix of wrestling, look, and attitude. He's not the best worker, but he makes up for it in other ways...though his stalling is a little old.

I agree that Punk definitely has the talent to be considered on the 1rst tier, but in terms of exposure, he hasn't really gotten much outside of IWA-MS. Sure he's worked ROH, but he's not a major star there. And in TNA, what has he ever done to make him a bigger star there than Tony Mamaluke, who hasn't wrestled a TNA show in God knows how long. I can see where you'd rank him in the first tier, but I'd feel a bit mroe comfortable waiting for him to become an uppercard star in ROH before we give hm the benefit of the doubt...

I disagree- Punk's feud with Raven has made him a MEGASTAR on the indy's, really showcasing what the guy's all about-Raven is a huge fan of him and is probably instrumental in getting him a now-regular role in TNA and booking in MLW. He's coming up on a feud with Daniels in ROH that should cement him there.

Especially the whole "100% natural" part.

From what I've heard, Zandig doesn't like to talk about The Icon. Why I don't know.....

And how you go from Warrior ripoff to deathmatch worker is beyond me.
