Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 So I'm at the Ring of Honor website buying a shirt and I see a Paul London T-shirt. It says "You can *T crossed out* cheat death, and I'm thinking o...k... Then I look at the videos and I see a best of Paul London it's title reads "PLEASE DONT DIE" Now I'm confused. Whats the deal with the gimmick?
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted June 29, 2003 So I'm at the Ring of Honor website buying a shirt and I see a Paul London T-shirt. It says "You can *T crossed out* cheat death, and I'm thinking o...k... Then I look at the videos and I see a best of Paul London it's title reads "PLEASE DONT DIE" Now I'm confused. Whats the deal with the gimmick? Early in his RoH career, whenever he went to the top rope, people would chant "PLEASE DON'T DIE!" at him. London's also a very big daredevil in the ring. See his 9/21/02 match with Michael Shane for an example (Shooting Star Press from the top of a ladder!).
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 29, 2003 The 'Please Don't Die' thing began at Unscripted when London had his legendary street fight with Michael Shane. The NYC bus trip people were the ones who started it
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 After watching London for the first time recently, I'm quickly becoming a fan of his work. And yes, hopefully he won't die.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 29, 2003 All it takes his one match and you're hooked. For me it was when I went to Final Battle 2002. He fought Xavier for the ROH title and had the crowd eating out of the palm his hand. I had never really heard of this guy and even I was pissed when he lost. At one point the crowd was going crazy for him so just for shits and giggles he did a Shooting Star Press to the floor AND HE MISSED. It was one of the sickest things I'd ever seen and I ran over to the rail to see if he was alright. That moment made me a Paul London fan. I bought Epic Encounter last night so I'm sure after watching him v. Am Dragon in a 2/3 falls match- I'll become an even bigger fan
Internet Warfare 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Yowzaaa. He's insane. I saw his velocity match, and even though it was basically a squash I was very inpressed.

Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 29, 2003 The street fight with Shane got me hooked. Seeing him vs. AJ live sealed the deal. Oh, btw I own the shirt as well.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2003 I saw his Unscripted match against Michael Shane and it was great. His initial dive off the ladder to the outside got the crowd off their feet and they never sat down after that. His shooting star press from the ladder was crazy, he went a little to far and the front portion of his body crashed on the mat, crazy shit. He is my pick as the next Ring of Honor champion, in my opinion he should've won it back at the First Anniversary Show after that awesome match with A.J. Styles and Low Ki. Guest The Upright Man Report post Posted June 29, 2003 Without a doubt London’s best match ever was at Epic Encounter show against Dragon. I always thought London was at his best when he was in the role of the never say die underdog. That night he played the part perfectly. The pacing was terrific and London’s selling was flawless. Throw in a super hot crowd that was divided right down the middle on who to cheer for and you’ve got the best match in ROH history.
Guest Jimmy Saint Report post Posted June 29, 2003 I always thought the chant was somewhat related to the fact he is one of the ROH guys who could actually make the big time. I always thought the chant was related to the the fans hoping he did'nt die in some pointless match doing a tope rope to the outside SSP infront of a few hundred people. I could be wrong here though. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted June 30, 2003 "Please Don't Die" originally comes from the Unscripted Street Fight when he was going for the finish, the SSP off the ladder, a move that has a very high potential for injury. I seriously did think he was going to die. I was closing my eyes as he was turning around for the jump. It takes a guy with a lot of natural underdog appeal to make you feel that strongly about someone-and London does it.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 I can only remember the crowd chanting it once though. It first happened in the street fight at Unscripted, but after that, has the audience ever started the chant up? I thought it was one of those things that the audience did once, and then the commentators got hold of it and repeated it over and over again so that it could be used for merchandise etc. I heard about some London dark matches coming up for the WWE, but seen as im so far behind on WWE stuff, im not sure if they've happened yet? Has anyone got more info? Also, Paul London rocked it at Bethnal Green a few weeks back, and made a big time impression on the British fans. I think us Brits can look forward to seeing him on these shores again in the future.
Guest The Upright Man Report post Posted June 30, 2003 They chanted it at "All Star Extravaganza" during the London/Red gauntlet series match. A small “please don’t die” chant also broke out at the Dragon/London match at “Epic “Encounter.” Although the latter was pretty much uncalled for as London was only sitting on the top turnbuckle and Dragon was standing on the second rope. Yeah… As for the WWE dark match, it already happened.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2003 As for the WWE dark match, it already happened. Dammit. Oh well They chanted it at "All Star Extravaganza" during the London/Red gauntlet series match. A small “please don’t die” chant also broke out at the Dragon/London match at “Epic “Encounter.” Although the latter was pretty much uncalled for as London was only sitting on the top turnbuckle and Dragon was standing on the second rope. I still think its more of a chant developed by ROH and the commentators than by the fans though. Perhaps its more evident if your at the shows live.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 30, 2003 TokyoX, Did you buy the shirt? I'm torn between the London, Am Dragon, and Spanky shirts as to which one to buy. I'm hoping that since Spanky is in WWE, they'll lower the price a bit

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. If you can get the MLW Underground show where you live, keep an eye out for the match. They'll probably show it a couple of weeks later.
