Most unexpected turn ever...

Recommended Posts

Guest ManKinnd

For me it had to be Stephanie turning on Vince at Armageddon. I didn't see it coming at ALL. I know now McMahon's turning has become passe, but when this one happened it really blew me away. How about you guys?

The most recent i can think of is Austin at invasion, there was rumours of it but during the match i thought the medic seeing him was legit as no commontator mentioned it

Rock's turn into the Corporate Champion when he beat Mankind to win the WWF Championship (I forget which PPV -- might've been a Survivor Series... '99 maybe). Not one of us watching the PPV that night expected it. Really a holy shit moment.

I agree with NotJames, the Rock turn at Deadly Game was quite possibly the most startling turn I'd ever seen. The whole night w/ the Bossman messing up the baton toss and the Rock getting a 30 second pin seemed to be just lucky breaks for the Rock until it was all unveiled to be a master plan.

One of Russo's finer moments, IMO.

Probably Rock at Deadly Games. Or for the last of my mark days(97) when Ahmed Johnson joined the NOD and on the same show HBK turned heel........I was like "NO!!!!!!!!!"

Bob Backlund snapping after losing to Bret Hart.  I was a major mark, and was going nuts when that happened.

When British Bulldog turned on Diesel on RAW in the summer of '95.

I remember taping it, then coming home and watching to see what happened.  When Davey Boy attacked Diesel, I couldn't believe it.  I walked around the house saying "Bulldog turned BAD!?" so much that my mom actually wondered why this was such a big deal to me.

Runnerup goes to Brian Pillman attacking Ric Flair at Fall Brawl '95.  Being a Pillman fan, I was like "Whoa!  Pillman's getting back in the spotlight!"  Ah, the beginning of the classic Loose Cannon Pillman era.

Really? I thought that was pretty blatant. I didn't think HHH would be Rikishi's accomplace.

Hogan's heel turn. Rocky's heel turn. And Austin's at WMX7 were big ones.

To me though, the biggest was ECW coming in the Invasion. It was out of left field and was a big holy shit moment. Too bad they killed it by doing the SECOND major swerve 30 mins later. The whole Invasion spaced out would of rule but that is another rant.

I totally didn't expect Angle to turn heel and join the Alliance.  But that's because it didn't make any fucking sense at the time, and he was about the worst choice for a turn.

Must I remind you that it could have been Kane?

When Rick Martel left Tito Santana and broke up Strike Force still stands out in my mind for some reason.  I was a big fan of Strike Force back in the day.

When Ric Flair turned on Sting.  For weeks flair tried to convice Sting to team with him against the horseman and when Sting taged in Flair, he attacked Sting.  Didn't see it coming at all.

Gotta agree with Anglesault here, the Steph turn was seemingly pretty blatant to me, in fact, I even told my brother that "I'll bet she turns on Vince and stays with Hunter." after hearing what the Armageddon main event was going to be.

As far as shocking heel turns go, I'd say Rock and Owen. Owen's heel turn shocked the ever loving hell outta me because I was such a Bret mark back then.

The Radicalzzzz turn right after they'd been introduced. Too bad the best heel of the group (Eddie!) got hurt before this. But after their massive pop, I never figured They would've turned them heel, and not a bad decision at that.

Still mourning the retirement of Malenko, one of my alltime faves. You show me another 40+ year old that could go like that. Makes me sad.

The Ric Flair turn on Sting from Havoc 95 cuz I didn't see that coming at all.

The ECW Reunion, if you wanna call that a heel turn. Honestly the last time I ever marked out for the WWF, so it's something special for me.

And Triple H's heel turn on X-Pac from WM XV. The weird thing about that one is that I was actually expecting Chyna's double turn, but Hunter's turn shocked the hell outta me.

The Radicalz turning on Cactus Jack was a holy shit moment too. Benoit, Malenko, Saturn and Eddy went from the fan's latest love to hardcore heels in one sentence.

*Faces*

HHH - "How about helping the man that gave you, your contracts.....

*Heels*Great stuff

Also when Paul Ellering turned on the LOD in 98. I was a big LOD fan back in the day, but that was funny as hell.

Special K, Malenko retired?

That sucks.

Well, I guess I would to if I had been booked as a 'failing ladies man'.

Anyways, the turn that shocked me the most was HHH on X-Pac and DX at WM15.  Never saw that coming. On the tape, you can hear the crowd gasp when he pedigrees him, its crazy.

Hogan's turn at Bash at the Beach. I didn't see it coming. When I say this I'm really talking about his promo. Amazing. When Hogan came down I was happy as I said to myself he is Mr. wwf himself and SHOULD join Hall and Nash, but I didn't expect it. I thought Hogan would never go heel.

The ECW joining wcw was pretty damn shocking I admit. Rock's heel turn also gets mention. Yes, it was Russo's crown jewel.

This might be a little weak but how about back in 95 or 96 the WcW brought Elizabeth in to be with Savage and during a Savage/Flair cage match see turned on Savage and joined Flair. I never thought they would do that because of the strong storylines Liz and Savage always had together..

Back in my mark days, at SurvivorSeries98  when rock, vince and shane hugged, i was confused, i didnt know if i should be happy because the guy i cheered for won or be pissed cuz the guy i cheered for turned bad. Sigh what a difference 4 years makes.
