Met's finally trade away Roberto Alomar

Recommended Posts

I'm a MEt's fan and yes they suck this year. The thing i like is thta it looks like they're trying to get younger by bringing up their young guys from the minors and they have FINALLY traded away Robbie Alomar. Alomar, who was a hall of famer his whole career came to NY and friggin stunk it up with his Lazy and nonchalant play. Good riddance to Alomar as he was also known as a clubhouse nuisanse with a bad attitude. A good day for MEts fans indeed :D

Where did he go?

What was the trade?

Also...thank God they finally wised up and got rid of some of the overpaid line-up.

Fuck em! I've hated his guts since he spit on an ump then went on about how the umpire only gave him a hard time cause his kid died...real piece of shit.

White Sox get:

Robby Alomar

cash

Mets get:

minor leaguers Royce Ring, Ed Almonte and Andrew Salvo

Ring is the gem of the deal. He looks to be a future closer.

I stole this from ESPN.com

NEW YORK -- The New York Mets traded second baseman Roberto Alomar to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday for three prospects.

New York received minor league pitchers Royce Ring and Edwin Almonte and infielder Andrew Salvo. The Mets will pay about $3.75 million of his remaining salary for this season, with the White Sox paying about $150,000.

The deal ended Alomar's disappointing 1½ years with New York and was the first trade by Mets interim general manager Jim Duquette.

Alomar, a bust in his one-plus seasons with New York, is hitting .262 with two homers and 22 RBI this season.

Alomar had been one of former Mets general manager Steve Phillips' high-profile acquisitions two winters ago, but the deal that included outfielder Matt Lawton, infielder Alex Escobar and left-hander Billy Traber being shipped to Cleveland never paid dividends for the Mets.

Alomar's brother, Sandy Jr., has played three-plus seasons for the White Sox.

Alomar had been selected for 12 straight All-Star games and won 10 Gold Gloves. He batted .336 with 20 home runs and 100 RBI in his final season with the Indians.

The trade returns Alomar to the American League where he batted .313 in 11 seasons with Toronto, Baltimore and Cleveland and 168 of his 203 career home runs. He spent his first three major league seasons with the San Diego Padres.

Alomar had asked the team for a contract extension during spring training but the team preferred to wait.

Almonte, 26, is 2-6 with 14 saves and a 6.88 ERA in 30 games at Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander is 21-29 with 83 saves and a 3.12 ERA in six minor league seasons.

Ring, 22, is 1-4 with 19 saves and a 2.52 ERA in 36 games at Double-A Birmingham. The left-hander was the club's first-round pick in the 2002 draft.

Salvo, 23, has split the season between Class A Kannapolis and Class A Winston-Salem, hitting .223 with one home run and six RBI in 42 games. The second baseman is a career .273 hitter in three seasons.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

This is exactly what Alomar needed. He'll bounce back in Chicago. He wasn't a New York player, and wasn't a National league player.

I think it's a great move that can pay off big for my Sox. I think Alomar will be a lot happier in Chicago and his performance will improve greatly. It's nice to see the Sox trading for someone to help them win this year rather than trading away their good players for prospects while they were only a few games out of first like in years past.

Good move for my ChiSox, Roberto needed a change of scenery and with Jimeniez struggling right now, and the Sox are 2 1/2 games out of 1st place its a good step. And he gets to play with brother Sandy again so he might feel comfortable right away.

It's not exactly like the Mets are historically known for their classy, quiet clubhouse.
