It's good for Vancouver, good for Canada, good for NYC (since Toronto is now out of the running for 2012), and bad for harbourfront redevelopment in downtown Toronto. All the same, I may have to take a trip to Van City in 2010...

It's good for Vancouver, good for Canada, good for NYC (since Toronto is now out of the running for 2012), and bad for harbourfront redevelopment in downtown Toronto. Dunno about good for NYC...I'm skeptical about the committee voting for back-to-back North American games, especially considering the cities who are vying for 2012 (London, Paris, Madrid and Moscow being the powerhouses). I'm just glad they're going to rebuild the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia...one of the worst roads I've ever travelled on.

Guest treble charged Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I'm just glad they're going to rebuild the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia...one of the worst roads I've ever travelled on. When I was out there a few months ago I was on that highway, and I really didn't think that it was that bad for the most part, up until a few minutes before you actually get to Whistler. It's not the safest road in the world, I know, but if drivers paid attention to the road and not the scenery (which is beautiful), there would probably be a lot less accidents.

Having been on the Sea-to-Sky highway before, I agree that it seriously needs an upgrade. Stupid Mel Lastman. That's stating the obvious, isn't it?

What a singular honor. Tom is wise. For all of these reasons, I was ecstatic when Houston was eliminated from the running to host the 2012 Summer Games. Traffic is ALREADY hell enough around here...I shudder to think what it'd be like if we had to deal with Olympic-sized crowds. I'm already placing bets that we blow our chance at getting into the Super Bowl rotation after this next year.

Plus, to say that you've seen some of the biggest sports spectacles in your lifetime would be pretty impressive. I'd be STOKED to see the Olympic hockey games, even without the NHL players.

Speaking of BC Place, that's where they're having the Opening and Closing ceremonies as well, which makes it the first time that they're going to be inside. I'm not sure I like that too much.

And I'd offer my yard - except that I live in a 3rd floor apartment. That being said, maybe I should rent some "reserved" parking spots from my complex and, ahem, "sublet" them to people willing to walk to the stadium... Back on topic, I hope that, despite the apparent popularity of BC bud, noone mistakes a coffee shop for being anything other than a "coffee shop", if you know what I mean...

Well, when it rains as much as it does there, I'm sure they wouldn't want to take the chance that the weather might be decent. Although I agree it would ruin some of the spectacle, especially for the torch lighting.
