Lion King 1 1/2

Recommended Posts

From IMDB: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0318403

Plot Outline: Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog retell the story of The Lion King, from their own unique perspective.

This obviously shows that Disney (among others) are pretty much out of any new, original ideas for movies, so they're going to keep adding onto classics until the viewers are all nauseated from a storyline that just doesn't seem to end. Half-assed sequels, imo, do more damage to a series then anything else.

Oh God.

Someone needs to take the "vault" away from Disney, and soon.

Out of new ideas? The 2D department gave me Lilo & Stitch last year, and that's good enough to keep up 3 or 4 years of legacy on its own. Though I do always cringe when they do the direct-to-video thing. Just seems odd.

Can't they see that Dreamworks and Pixar are rolling out new and fresh and awesome shit? Why are they sticking their head in the proverbial oven?

Kid's Movies are fail-proof. Just get good Animators all right...Have them go to a playground...ask the kidlets what they would like to see a movie about...

They will say something outlandish..."I wanna see a movie where a Talking Shark tries to be friends with a Whale but his family won't let him"....DO IT!

Lilo and Stitch already has a direct to video sequel coming out in a few months. It's called Stitch: The Movie.

The new "Brother Bear" movie they have coming out Thanksgiving might be alright, but everyone knows they are probably already developing a straight to video sequel of it.... especially since it looks like a sequel would make no sense.

The Lion King is far from original as well. They stole big time from the anime Kimba, The White Lion.

The new 101 Dalmations was nice, but that is the only direct-to-video I can even watch.

For Fucks sake, NONE of the true Disney Classics are new Ideas from someone at Disney.

Cinderella? Snow White? Beauty and the Beast? Pinnochio?

Everyone acts like Lion Kind being based on something is the downfall of Disney.

To be fair, has Pixar done anything without Disney?

I didn't mind Lion King 2.

That said, Lion King 1 1/2 sounds like a bad idea. But I kind of see Disney's dilemma. Their new stuff either doesn't gross much oney at the box office, even if its decent (Lilo and Stich) or the fim just flat out sucks. It's much easier for them to churn out straight to vid sequels which make more money. And the Lion King franchise is a license to print money for them. Isn't it the highest selling video of all time? And with the DVD coming out soon, this all ties in quite nicely for them. With this extra money, they can prehaps hire some new talent to pick up the slack and get their regular feature length films back up to scratch.

Eh... if it's OK it doesn't really matter to me. It's for Kids and Kids only. Serious animation fans will simply ignore it... in fact, The Lion King 1 1/2 sounds almost like a movie version of the "Timon & Pumbaa Show".

And to be fair, Pixar is putting out Awesome stuff. DreamWorks is merely DISTRIBUTING awesome stuff (Shrek was by PDI, an Aardman did Chicken Run. If you like Antz, that was also PDI. DreamWorks has made Road to El Dorado, Sinbad, and Prince of Egypt (oh yeah, and it's Direct-to-Video-Sequel "Joseph-something or other").

And Disney's animated movies have, by and large, been at least decent entertainment. Which is better than a lot of other studios can say.

Wouldn't The Lion King: The Musical be considered 1-1/2 as it is? BTW it kicks some serious ass...

I'm sorry, I can't be outraged, as the original Lion King, while still a good (if not great) film, is maybe the most OVERRATED animated film of all time.

NO NO NO NO NO! Don't you remember when the movie first came out? Disney was quite proud of the fact that this was their first animated movie that didn't really have any literature to be based on!! It was all Disney and their awesome, creative, and original writers.

Just because there's some "story" with much of the same plot as the movie, and this "story" happens to have a central figure with a very similar name as the original Disney character Simba means absolutely nothing. It was all DISNEY, damn you!!!!!!!!!

:D

Well, if it was based on anime, then they can STILL be proud that it's not based on literature, right? :D

I haven't seen Kimba, so I just assumed that Disney just did a bastardized version of Hamlet.

Disney's Only Orignal Work- The Gargoyles.

Cannned.

So when I see these things, I just say- its just like them doing this. They quit-

Pixar is going to OWN Disney. Mark My Words- because since Disney dont want to clean house and put Greg Wiseman as head of the Animation Department- Pixar now has to do it, other wise, Disney's time will soon be up-

Nothing is Impossible anymore.

I didn't know so many people marked for Disney movies. Personally I can care less.
