Felony Sexual Assault according to a breaking news from Fox Sports Radio..

"Kobe Bryant, the all-star guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, was arrested on charge of sexual assault, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office said Sunday.

A woman went to sheriff's deputies on July 1 and told investigators that she was sexually assaulted by Bryant in a hotel in the Edwards area of Eagle County the night before.

Upon review of interviews and physical evidence, investigators met with the District Attorney's Office and concluded they had enough evidence to charge Bryant with felony sexual assault.

During the investigation, Bryant, 24, was cooperative with investigators and remains cooperative with authorities, the Eagle County Sheriff's Office said.

Bryant voluntarily complied with the arrest warrant by turning himself in to the sheriff's office in Eagle. He posted a $25,000 bond on July 4.

The case has since been sealed by a judge.

Byrant, who has helped lead the Lakers to three consecutive National Basketball Association titles, lives in Los Angeles with his wife of three years, Vanessa Laine, and young daughter, Natalia. This past season Lakers lost in the Western Conference semifinals to the San Antonio Spurs.

You know the NBA is praying that this is not true. The last thing the league needs is one of it's biggest stars to be tarnished like this. Also, does anyone know what the league's policy is on this? If he gets convicted how long is he suspended? (After he gets out of jail).

Did Kobe officially sign his Nike deal? If not I'm sure this will have some bearing on that.

Three possibilities

1. The woman is lying, trying to make some $$$

2. Kobe had an affair with a woman, but now she is lying, trying to some $$$

3. It’s true and Kobe is a lousy bastard

That fucking PERVERT. :D

It's not funny either way. If the allegations are true, than Kobe is dirtball. If this women is lying she accused an innocent man of committing one of the worst crimes.

Well... if true then so much for the Kobe, Shaq, Malone, GP show.

And if it IS true and he gets off or something I don't think Malone will want any part of that team.

Um well IF it is true it won't really matter because Kobe won't be playing. One thing though if he didn't rape her but say he did have sex with the girl this will probably go to trial and even if he is innocent it could cost him part of the season.

Fah. Malone's a mercenary out for a ring, and if he thinks his best chance is with the Lakers, that's where he'll end up. Kobe could get acquitted of being a serial killer and Malone would still sign with LA (if Payton did, of course) if that's where he thought he had the best chance for a ring.

Most cases like this are bullshit designed to get money for sick and desperate people, so I'm going to presume this one is, too.

This has Wyane Chumura (sp?) written all over it...only it will be more mainstream and it will take Stern's hardest PR sell to stop the bleeding.

The girl admited she lied about the rape and Either she admitted it was consensual or it never happened...

Chimera admited to being at the party which damaged him right there. He has since retired after that trial but Green Bay said they would welcome him back.

I think Kobe is probrably innocent of any criminal wrong doing. All the reports I've read said he is cooperating with authorities. This is probrably a ho bag on the side that got pissed at the way he left her at the bed side and decided this is the way to get revenge.

I do think Kobe did get caught cheating on his wife however. Even if he didn't rape her, he probrably got his johnson slobbed or better. That could end up hurting his rep a little. Not a lot since he is a superstar athlete and it seems 99% of them have women on the side and for some reason it's acceptable. I just hope that if he was caught cheating that his wife leaves him and takes half. She just had his child this last January, they have been married only a year and a half, and to be out cheating already is just a dirtball move, IMO.

Chmura acquitted of all charges

Associated Press

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura was acquitted Saturday of sexually assaulting a former baby sitter at a drunken party.

The jury of seven men and five women deliberated for 2 hours, 15 minutes before finding Chmura innocent on charges of third-degree sexual assault and child enticement. The charges carried a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Chmura cried as Waukesha County Circuit Judge Mark Gempeler read the verdicts. A group of about 50 people waiting outside the courtroom broke into cheers when Chmura left the courtroom.

"We're on top of the world," defense attorney Gerald Boyle said. "He was despised over night. Now he has the people back."

Chmura made a brief statement, his wife Lynda at his side, thanking the jurors. He planned a news conference Sunday afternoon.

"I'd like to thank the jury for taking in all the evidence, seeing what happened and then rendering their decision," Chmura said.

One juror, a woman, cried as Gempeler read the verdicts. The jury left shortly after the verdicts were read without speaking to reporters.

District Attorney Paul Bucher also left without talking to reporters.

Chmura's accuser, who used to baby-sit for Chmura's two sons, was not in the courtroom.

The teen-ager accused Chmura of pulling her into a bathroom during an April 9 post-prom party at his friend Robert Gessert's home, pulling down her pants and having sex with her without her consent.

Boyle contended Chmura's accuser was lying and made the story up because she disliked Chmura. Chmura did not testify.

Another teen at the party, Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School football player Michael Kleber, testified he warned Chmura's accuser not to go into the bathroom because Chmura was in there. Kleber also testified the teen-ager went into the bathroom willingly, flashing him a smile.

Kleber, an All-State offensive tackle, said he idolized Chmura and followed him to the bathroom door.

Boyle said Saturday Kleber's testimony turned the case.

"This Kleber boy, what a credit to the younger generation," Boyle said.

Chmura's accuser testified she disliked the former NFL star because he made suggestive remarks to her and had hit on her when she baby-sat his children, once giving her a $20 tip because she was cute. She also testified both she and Chmura were drunk at the party, which Gessert's daughter held after the Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School prom. A nurse who examined the teen later that day testified injuries Chmura's accuser suffered were consistent with sexual assault.

A nurse and a doctor specializing in sexual assault examinations testified for the defense that the injuries to the teen could have been caused by something else, such as wet clothes or an ill fitting bathing suit. The teen had testified she borrowed a swim suit to go into a hot tub at the party, held by Gessert's daughter. The nurse also testified she would have expected Chmura to have similar injuries. An examination the day after the party showed he had none.

Chmura, a three-time Pro Bowl selection at tight end, joined the Packers in 1992. He appeared in two straight Super Bowls with Green Bay, but missed most of the 1999 season with a neck injury. The team released him in June.

John Drana, Chmura's personal attorney, said Chmura has been given medical clearance to play again.

If the police have enough evidence to charge him with felony sexual assault, I don;t think it's right that the law allows him to turn himself in, post bond and leave. It's another example of the revolving door treatment that athletes/moviestars get simply based on their fame and fortune.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did it, since Martha Stewart of all people is also in trouble with the law.

At least he "allegedly" assaulted another woman instead of some 12 year old boy.

Right now I don't believe it.

But at least the woman came out with the accusations now instead of waiting years to do so.

At least now the case will be easier to resolve...

I hate Kobe & all, but my bullshit-ometer is off the charts. He just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would do that.

Like DA said, he probably was getting a little sumpin-sumpin on the side, and the girl saw an opportunity to cash in. Doesn't make it right for Kobe since he's married, but it's a hell of a lot better than rape.

The DIstrict Attorney didn't feel it was a need to press charges at this time, but the sheriffs office went ahead and did it(no doubt looking for press).

I smell the bullshit.

Being a Kobe fan or no, I don't even believe he was gettin a little sumtin on the side. The whole thing just smells fishy.

Lets not foget that a year ago Allen Iverson was arrested due to them having "sufficient evidence" that he ran up in a apartment with a gun. In the end, it was obvious the guy lied and the whole thing.

All I'm saying is wait to pass judgement. I certainly hope it isn't true.

Jesus Christ does that mean...

Tim Duncun will go on a nation wide killing spree? Because you don't get more quiet and clean cut then this guy...

At least Stern will be more willing to promote the guy "Your Aunt die of a horrible bloddy gruesome death and they never figured out who did it? Well...It was Tim Duncan, the tall guy on the other texas team...Come to the game and heckle/cheer for the guy!"

This is a serious thread about a serious topic with possibly serious repercussions. I'm just glad that Kobe didn't tear his quad or ACL. A conviction should be good enough to ruin the Lakers' season.

anyway, this happens all the time to famous people. Even just "famous" people. For now, I'll call the bullshit and see if the cops find anything.
