Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 7, 2003 ^ Not if Kobe is incarcinated. Sacramento will have a video via Statelite showing KOBE in his cell for all the Queens to enjoy as they STILL get run over.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted July 7, 2003 If he got arrested, does this mean there is going to be a mug shot of him on the smoking gun? If so, I can’t wait to see that picture. I have a feeling I’ll be getting a new sig.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 7, 2003 This is a serious thread about a serious topic with possibly serious repercussions. I'm just glad that Kobe didn't tear his quad or ACL. A conviction should be good enough to ruin the Lakers' season. Is that why your first post included 3 smiling similies.

Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 8, 2003 And sexual assault can be anything from grabbing her ass when she walked by, to rape and everything in between. There is honestly no telling what he is being accused of yet. I do find it odd, though that everyone in the media is with the "wait and see what happens first before passing judgement" and this was the same media calling Allen Iverson a crazed thug and calling for the NBA to kick him out of the league days after the completely false "Allen pulled a gun on me" thing hit the waves. I said give time for the facts to be shown then, and I say it now. I just find it odd that the press is all "But its Kobe...he can't do any wrong" but with Iverson they were ready to hang him. Guess its a good thing that Kobe never cornrowed that Afro...then he would have been a danger to society.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Out of Kobe and Iverson, one of them has a felony conviction for a violent crime on his record. Want to guess which one it is? Out of Kobe and Iverson, one cultivates the popular image of a "thug." Want to guess which one it is? Out of Kobe and Iverson, one of them has released a rap record full of violent lyrics and misogyny. Want to guess which one it is? Iverson has done everything he can to make people think he's a thug. They can hardly be blamed for having that opinion of him when he's spent years cultivating the image so carefully.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I heard that the woman that Kobe assaulted allegedly was only 19 years old. I would not be surprised if she looked younger than she was since Kobe has been known to be associated with teenage girls.

Question 2: Iverson I would guess...but who put that label on him. Cornrows and tattoos don't make a thug. Bad stereotype basically. Question 3: Neither and Both: neither album was ever realeased but both made a shitty rap album full of violent lyrics etc. I still ask what has Iverson done to make people think he is a thug. Is it the way he has never gotten into a physical confrontation on the court? (I think Kobe is at 5 now). Is it the way that he is always carrying his kids with him and talking about them. I mean seriously, what has he done to be seen as a thug. I mean, they alway say, Allen Iverson in trouble with the law...do you realise that one of these headline making infractions that Iverson had was he was in the passenger seat of his uncles car, and his uncle got pulled over for speeding...THATS IT. The next day, Sean Brembry is on ESPN calling him a thug. Thugs love to ride in the passenger seat of speeding cars I guess. Maybe you have seen something that I haven't, but beside wearing what is in style (which the press had dubbed "Thug" apparel) what has he done.
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I never touched on this but Kobe won't get street cred if he did rape that chick or not. I feel that "street cred" is people from the streets that can relate to a player who's from the streets. Kobe is not from the streets so he is hard to relate to. So this doesn't have do with Kobe can't sell shoes because he doesn't have "street cred" bullshit article I read at ESPN because Jordan isn't from the streets and he sells just fine. Yeah, somehow "Street cred" has gotten related to committing a crime. The 2 have nothing to do with each other. You know what happens when you committ a crime and you are rich. People in the street call you a fucking idiot. Street cred is from coming from nothing to something, but everyone knows you had to struggle to get there and the people from the street can relate. Kobe came from a upper class family. Not to say that he doesn't get love in the street...Its that people feel like they are helping one of their own when they buy someones shoes who was once in the same situation that they are in. Although that is a bunch of bullshit and it is all going to a Nike CEO, but what ever makes them feel better. It is stupid to think that people would respect him more if he was a rapist. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted July 8, 2003 His wife was in 11th grade when he met her. He was already playing in the NBA and was not a teenager. This woman who works at a resort in Colorado is also a teenager. That's 2 too many right there!
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Only thing Iverson has done is gone to prison for that bowling alley brawl that was like 9-10 years ago, which I thought it was bullshit because it was a typical brawl that you would see in a bar or club. So people still want ride on him for that, I watched an interview with this guy who now races NASCAR trucks that use to be a teammate of Iverson's at G-Town, and he had good things to say about him, nothing negative came out his mouth about Iverson. Just because he has tattooes and braids people want to pass judgement on him, he hasn't gotten into any fights on the court I don't think AI has gotten suspended yet, and Kobe has gotten into fights plenty of times (Childs, Miller), why is nobody saying Kobe's a thug? He was convicted of a felony... pardoned after 4 months (strangely, just in time to take summer school and get into Gtown). His record was cleared in '96. 2. A stereotype perpetuated by AI himself. You're right, cornrows and tattoos don't make a thug... if you carry yourself another way. But if you carry yourself like a thug, those other things won't help. 3. Right. My main problem with Iverson is he's supposed to be an ambassador of the game. Yet he dresses like a teenager, talks like a moron, and is much too involved with lowlife things. He shouldn't even be in a position to be implicated in a crime... this is why Kobe's credibility will be hurt, charges or none. And if AI wants to roll with thugs he should do it quietly. Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 8, 2003 2. A stereotype perpetuated by AI himself. You're right, cornrows and tattoos don't make a thug... if you carry yourself another way. But if you carry yourself like a thug, those other things won't help. But the question is, outside of going to work and raising his family, what do we know about Allen Iverson that would label him a thug. In all of his interviews (save the infamous one in that was about a hour long full of the most colorful language you will ever see on regular TV) he comes off very polite, and intellegent. My point is that if allen Iverson had a low hair cut and not tattoos, yet spoke in the exact same way and answered questions the same, would he be considered a thug. My problem is guys like Rip Hamilton, Ira Newble and Tyrone Lue DRESS the same way and wear the SAME hairstyle as Iverson. Brad Miller dresses the exact same way as Iverson. They don't get hit with the thug label. Kobe Bryant has been charged with a potentially serious crime and the press is like "Wait and see". Jason Kidd was arrested for a very serious crime and the press was like "Forgive and forget". Penny hardaway, during his high point, pulled a gun on his girlfriend and the press acted like it didn't happen. I just don't appreciate the way that they are basically saying this guy is no good because of how he looks. It is ridiculous. Now I will readily admit that I could be wrong and might be missing something here. Perception varies from person to person. But from what I've seen and what I percieve, I don't think that Allen Iveson has done a thing to deserve the thug label that he is given.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Iverson WAS convicted of the crime, but yes, it is off his record now. Having a history of violent behavior coupled with the image he's careful to convey paints him as a thug, IMO. It's not just the cornrows, the style of dress, the profanity, and the posse (though those do help). I'll admit it's a steretype, but it's one he seems to enjoy fitting into, so more power to him. The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2003 I'll admit it...I don't have much to contribute to this thread. I just wanted to say that Kobe is an idiot to try and mess with some other chick. Look at the prime piece he's got at home...DAMN! Dames
