Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted July 8, 2003 So, because they put effort into keeping the faces face and the heels heel...they hate Canada? It's because anywhere else, they'll let the hometown or home country in this case, hero get a pop. It normally doesn't faze them. And, that whole Jericho/HBK segment killed the crowd dead. Like when Angle would go to Pittsburg as a heel and then insult the crowd to get some heat? Does the WWE hate Pittsburg too? Probably not, but everyone else shoud hate pittsburgh. Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 8, 2003 Canada has always been a strong territory for the WWE, back in the mid 90's when they were domestically failing Canada and their attendance didn't drop nearly as much - even now their ratings on the Score and TSN aren't falling as they are on TNN and UPN. There is no good reason as to why they keep on screwing with their Canadian fanbase other than Vince hates (us). The problem is that it seems that whenever they roll through Canada, the crowd turns heel. Maybe because of the huge amounts of Canadian heels or something. Last time Raw went up there, Lance Storm was inexplicably a face for one night only. He wasn't just a face with the crowd, but he was fighting a heel, which means they gave up and just gave him an oddball turn for one night. Not exactly sure what it comes from (and I'm kind of a mark, only watching since 99, so I'm probably not the best judge) but it seems Canadians really do enjoy cheering other Canadians, where as in other places a "hometown hero" is usually just getting hyped up one night only as a mini-push (see Bradshaw to understand what I mean.) Because of the huge numbers of Canadian heels, Canadian shows are kind of a bizarro land, and the company has begun booking around them (see Hogan and Rock reversing roles for their second match just to keep Rocky from being crapped on another time)
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted July 9, 2003 The last three shows Benoit's done in Canada-he's won. *BZZZ!* (crowd goes 'ooohhhh') May 8, 2003 - loses to Big Show in Halifax, and needs to be saved by Brock Lesnar, who waves the Canadian flag after the show ends. Guest Vyce Report post Posted July 9, 2003 This particular bit of WWE logic has me beating the head against the wall. Will Scarlet brings up a good point. With business down like it is......why INTENTIONALLY piss off a potentially profitable fanbase?
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted July 9, 2003 Remember Jim Ross's quote--The #1 thing you DON'T say to Vince (correct me if I'm wrong): "It doesn't matter what the fans think." Footnote: Also, Vince doesn't like when you take the words out of his mouth.
Guest JHawk Report post Posted July 9, 2003 Well, that much is true. Fuck the "it has the BIG NAMES/mainstream draws" shit. Show me the proof. The proof that the "big names are on Raw"? The last SmackDown house show I was at, the fans behind me were bitching that had they known Raw was live in Cleveland the next night, they'd have gone there instead "because that's where the talent is". Fucking idiots.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 9, 2003 While we're on the topic of kissing up to Vince I always loved that story on how Shane Douglas had everyone agreeing in Vince's office how the Dean Douglas gimmick sucked and the gimmick Shane was proposing (his normal self I think) was better. Than later on after Vince had come in everyone had suddenly changed their opinions around 180 degrees and were talking about how the Dean Douglas charactor was the best since Vince was a fan of the Dean gimmick.
