Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I was looking at some used videos and found a few of the oldschool Brit-com "The Young Ones" and couldn't decide if I wanted to pull the trigger on the impulse buy or not. I remember them as being funny as all hell, but haven't watched them since I was wicked young so can't figure out if they'd be funny still, or if I'd watch them once and then never watch them again. So, any other fans that can help me figure out if I should pick them up or not?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I still like TYO's, but more for nostalgia than anything. Thet aren't as funny as you remember (and at times cringingly cheesy), but if they're cheap, you could do a lot worse.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 THE YOUNG ONES RULES YOU, YOUR MOTHER, YOUR MOTHER'S MOTHER, AND ALL ANCESTORS!!! Not as funny as you remember... balderdash.
Guest Downhome Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I'll admit it, I came into this thread thinking it would be about Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes, and the Olsen twins.
Guest The ChriZa Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 YES! YES YES YES YES! FINALLY THERE ARE OTHERS WHO LOVE THE YOUNG ONES! Once in every lifetime... Comes a lot like this... Well I need you You need me Oh my darling, can't you see... Rick owns you ALL. BASTARDS!
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Buy it.I did. Some of those episodes are still gut busting hilarious almost 20 years later. Bambi f'n rules. Damn. Now I may have to throw the dvd in.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I'll admit it, I came into this thread thinking it would be about Hilary Duff, Amanda Bynes, and the Olsen twins. First of all, I'd have no doubt in my interest in videos with the lovely young ladies that you mention. None at all. Second of all, thanks for your help everyone ... I'll be picking up whatever's left at the store this weekend. For the cheap money, as long as I watch them occasionally they'll be worth the money.
Guest Addy Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I always thought Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson's next project "Bottom" was the funniest comedy ever made.
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 The first episode of Bottom is on the Young Ones DVD as well, which is also hilarious. The first episode of Filthy Rich & Catflap is on it too but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the other two shows.
Guest The ChriZa Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 HA HA HA! NOW YOU HAVE TO SIT ON THE RICKETY CHAIR! *thump* That show is better than sex. Well, it isn't, but its less expensive than a date.
Guest notJames Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 "Bambi, did you do a Disney nasty?" Best line ever. (From that show, I mean.) One of the best reasons to watch was the musical guests. The Damned, Squeeze, Madness... it's an '80s music lover's wet dream!
Guest mach7 Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 I always thought Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson's next project "Bottom" was the funniest comedy ever made. Bastard! I was just going to say that but you beat me to it!! Eddy & Rik rule!
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 "Bottom live" rules all.
Guest MissMattitude Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 Bambi was easily my favourite episode, with them all on University Challenge. I love the moment where Neil takes a hit from a bong and flies to the moon, only for the aliens to send him back.
