Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2003 I was going through my list of players from our league last year, and was wondering what were the big steals were in your drafts last year. Our probably had to be Portis going in like the last round, and then the dumbass who traded him to the eventual winner for Chad Hutchinson. Anybody else who had McNabb on their team get screwed out of their championships with his ankle injury?
Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 10, 2003 My best trade: Getting Tiki Barber for Corey Bradford I think my worst was getting David Boston for Jamal Lewis...
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I won my league last year miraculously. I had the second pick in the draft and took Kurt Warner. (we all know how that went) I lucked out and Ricky Williams dropped to me with the 23rd pick. I had the 26th pick and took Randy Moss. Next up I took Emmitt Smith because I needed more running backs. Then came Jerry Rice. I got a huge disappointing season from my tight end Marcus Pollard. My defense was Miami's, which for the most part did me right. Adam Viniteiri was my kicker and you all know he owns. With Warner sucking balls last year, I ended up using Mark Brunell for as much as I could. I lucked out at the end of week 3 with Clinton Portis still not picked up off the free agent list. So I took him. Suffice to say we all know where that went down the stretch. When Brunell went down, I had to go to the Waiver Wire again. I had just released Tommy Maddox a week before he got the starting nod, but then I picked up Chad Pennington. After reading my moves and knowing how Ricky Williams and Portis ended the year, you now know why I won my league last year.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted July 10, 2003 Everyone laughed when I took Priest Holmes last year. "1 Year Wonder" they all said. He turned out to be a fantasy monster. People also laughed when I drafted Charlie Garner as my 2nd RB, and he turned out to have a damn good fantasy year. I had Portis on my "steal" list, hoping nobody would think to take him since Denver already had a bunch of RB's. Being a Hurricanes fan, I knew he was going to have a good year. Another guy snaked him before I had a chance to draft him. Damn!
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I thought I was going to have a steal with TJ Duckett. Then it turned out that Michael Vick was running back AS WELL AS the quarterback and Warrick Dunn didn't break down like I had anticipated so TJ didn't get many touches. Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I picked Duckett, too. The one time I had to use him, he had like 35 yards rushing. D'Oh!
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I was 1-6 through the first seven weeks on my Yahoo league last year, mostly due to having Warner and holding on to him in the hope that he'd break out of his slump. Never did, so eventually I dumped him. Luckily I had Trent Green and Priest Holmes. We autodrafted, so I really can't say I made agreat move, but by luck of the draw I got the Atlanta, Cleveland and Denver defenses, which were among the best in the NFL. When Priest went down I picked up Duce Staley, just as he was getting more carries for the Eagles. As it turned out I finished the regular season 7-8, made it to the playoffs as the fourth seed, and won the next two weeks to claim the league championship. Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2003 My list of steals looks about like this: Michael Vick (later-round pick) Clinton Portis Travis Henry (Excellent FA acquisition) Peerless Price (Mid-round guy, who turned out to have a great year) These guys served me quite well, especially Clinton Portis in Week 17, and you all know what happened then, right? (If not, it was when he exploded for over 200 yards against Arizona)
Guest El Gigante Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I took second in the standings my league last year and got screwed in the playoffs. My best steal was picking up Peerless Price off the free agents list second week in and then trading him halfway through the season for Hines Ward and Derrick Mason. Luckily for me Price did nothing spectacular after I traded him and Ward took charge.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2003 Yeah my roommate after he picked up Portis is RB's were: Ricky Williams, LaDainian, & Portis That's crazy that Ricky fell all the way to 23rd in your draft, I think he was #4 in ours.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 10, 2003 Well, we had a 12 team league and only 8 showed for the live draft. A lot of people were scared off by Williams because there were rumors going around that he was injured and Ricky hadn't always been the healthiest running back in football. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I don't remember the whole deal, but it involved Terell Davis for Hines Ward. The guy I dealt with was really hurting for a RB and the next day news broke that he was out for the season. That had to hurt. It gave me a WR core of Ward and Torry Holt, but I also had Brady and the NE defense, which screwed me in the middle of the season.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted July 10, 2003 Rich Gannon, I was at the end of the draft order and pick the MVP in the 1st round. Various RBs that worked out well in punt and kickoff returns.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 10, 2003 I'm sure Joe Horn was a huge steal for a lot of people last year. I picked him up with a pretty late pick and he was one of my top producers very consistantly.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2003 Todd Heap, is another one. I got him off of FA in a league last year.
