This is a Simple Idea.

You get ONE CHANCE, ONE SHOT, ONE OPPROTUNITY to recommend a Band/Singer of your choosing.

Try to give us new names that we might not heard of; But shy away from the Indy stuff that are independent for reason (I.E if they suck so bad no one will sign them).

Give us a good synopsis of that recommendation and why you chose that said Band/Singer. Throw out some good tracks to judge them by.

That's the first part...

Now...The rest of us can criticize or add thoughts upon that selection as the thread grows.

I'll do mine later; As if you don't know who I'm going to talk about :)

The Whitlams

An Australian band that's well known down here, yet they seem practically unheard of up in the states. I can't really pin point an exact genre that this band would be apart of. Their music is very mainstream, but in a good way. Some of the catchiest songs I've heard have come from this band, and its the kind of music that you'll be whistling at work.

Recommended tracks: 'Royal in the Afternoon' , 'Blow up the Pokies'

The Coral

Most UKers will have heard of them, but I doubt they're very big anywhere else. Can't say I know much about them, but I have their album and It's really good. They don't sound like any other band around at the moment (Not that I can think of anyway) They've kinda got an old school feel to them, and write short catchy tunes. I'm really struggling to think of a band to liken them to...maybe The Beatles???

Songs to check out...

'Dreaming Of You' and 'Pass It On'

Mastodon

Most people into this type of stuff know about them already, but it's worth repeating. They're probably one of, if not the, best active metal band today. It's like someone decided to mix prog, doom, and grind and this is what happened. Incredibly aggressive backed up by fantastic song structure and mind blowing instrumentals. Brann's drumming alone makes it worth listening to them, but that's without even getting into their other members. The vocal delivery is insane. Like short bursts of screaming poetic fury. Surprisingly they're even better live (I saw them with Cephalic Carnage of the Contamination tour, another band worth checking out by the way).

Songs: "Crusher Destroyer", "March of the Fire Ants", "Where Strides the Behemoth", "Trainwreck", "Shadows That Move", and "Welcoming War".

Dream Warriors

Two Canadian rappers, King Lou and Capital Q, formed in 1989. They make jazz influenced hip hop with politically motivated lyrics, ala A Tribe Called Quest.

Recommended tracks: Wash Your Face In My Sink, It's A Project Thing, My Definition Of A Bombastic Jazz Style, I've Lost My Ignorance, Sound Clash, Dem No Ready, Tricycle And Kittens.

Susperia

Blackened thrash metal at its finest. Lyrics about war and Satan and whatnot, and music that both brings you to another world while ripping out your guts and making you eat them. The vocals are of the most black, and the drumming is superb. The guitar work is also very good, although it occasionally leaves something to be desired.

Recommendations: "Of Hate We Breed," "The Hellchild," "Illusions Of Evil"

Medication

Featuring Whitfield Crane of Ugly Kid Joe and Life of Agony along with ex-Machine Head/Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader, Medication is a nice band of stoner-rockers. Some of the tracks on Prince Valium sound the same, ie the first two tracks, but there are several slower, melodic jams that are quite tits.

Recommended tracks:

"Loaded Gun"

"Xanax"

"Something New"

"Prince Valium"
